The closest place where I can buy postcards is the city of Safed, about 20 kilometers from my house. As a tourist city, it has loads of postcards. The trouble is that it is very hilly and I am not allowed to walk up and down hills for the next few weeks, so Safed was out.
The next closest town is Kiryat Shemona. It is roughly 30 kilometers away. The problem there is that is not a place which attracts a lot of tourists and, hence, postcards are a rarity. Still, I can walk in Kiryat Shemona and so I headed there today. I managed to find two postcards -- one of Tel Aviv and one of Haifa. Neither was particularly nice, but as I have never met Sharon in person, I felt that they were good enough and got them both. I never met Sharon in person? I NEVER MET SHARON IN PERSON! That thought suddenly hit me big time. Sharon had indicated that she might attend the Tel Aviv Meet I hosted a few years ago, but didn't make it. Ditto for the Venice Meet (co-hosted by Obscure2K) and the four PBI-FLL Meets I hosted along with TKey75 and MrKEY. Sharon has turned down all of my meets!!!! I decided that revenge was in order and picked up a picture book of Israeli history and art, which I will put in the envelope along with the postcards. This, in turn, makes it logical for me to send the entire package by EMS -- and that's where the revenge comes in. EMS delivers at any time from 8 am to 10 pm, seven days a week, and never lets you know in advance when they will show up. You have to sign for the package and if you aren't at home you have to make arrangements for them to hold it at the Post Office for you. If you don't, they return the thing. So, Sharon, you had better not plan on going to anyone else's meets for the next 4 to 10 days. EMS can show up at any time during that period. Revenge is so sweet! |
Sharon, you must really have connections -- that is slightly over three full days and it had to:
1. Travel on the mobile post office from my house to the regional post office in Safed. 2. Be driven to Ben-Gurion Airport in Tel Aviv (about 200 kilometers). 3. Processed at Ben-Gurion and put on a flight to JFK. 4. Be cleared by Customs at JFK. 5. Flown to your regional post office in California. 6. Be sent on to your local post office. 7. Delivered to your house. Of course, it had a break in that I did not include a bottle of Holy Water from the River Jordan. If I had, and it was over 3 ounces, the TSA might have stopped the package and held it for questioning. Please give my best wishes to your sister along with the post cards (and, eventually, the book). |
Hi, Sharon! I'd be very happy to send your sis a postcard from YEG-land. It's been a while since I have sent a postcard of my own city to someone else, so I'll be doing my part for our tourism board :)

Postcards on their way!

Hi Sharon,
Cap is on its way and postcards will follow next week. |
Panama Canal card sent from PDX due to Panama not having a postal service, or so I was told by some guy at the airport.
Krakow, Poland and Amsterdam should be on the way. Amsterdam posted this morning at the NH Hotel Schipol so it should be a day or two behind us. |
Thanks everyone! BTW - I'm enjoying seeing the postcards too before forwarding to Cheryl.
Cheers. |
Sharon, I sent a postcard to you yesterday that was signed by all of the FTers on the FT 10th Anniversary OpenSkies DO.
I don't know where I'm headed this weekend but you can be sure there will be some obscure postcards in your future. |

I'll try to remember to pick up a postcard from the Civilian Marksmanship Program, Port Clinton, OH, or Sandusky, OH on Monday. :)

A big thanks to kipper, who has been great about cards & now postcards. And since Cheryl actually has to requalify each year w/ gun, shotgun, rifle, both in day & night situations, that would probably be appropriate*.
* If the type of gun isn't accurate, blame me not her. And as she sighed one day when I said why do you have to do the requal at night? Sharon, not everything that happens happens btwn 9-5. She puts up w/ me. What can I say? Dumb blonde moment... Cheers. |
I would be very happy to send postcards from my travels.... right now that would be beautiful Toledo, OH.
