Randy, you da man times two!^ ^ ^

Pat89339 Jun 12, 2008 10:49 pm

Wow! ^

crnk Jun 12, 2008 11:04 pm

Entered!

I'd like to see figures as to how many people enter....
I would tend to think it is a little bit of a low-entry contest....as of now, the announcement only has 4k reads, and I'm sure a lot of people can't go for various reasons:
1. not in NYC or unable to get there
2. 1.5-2 days off work (with less than a week notice)
3. other events previously planned
etc...

SteelerBoy Jun 13, 2008 1:16 am

Pretty cool of OpenSkies to make the offer as well!!!^^^

Mrp Alert Jun 13, 2008 1:51 am

I am all about this. Pre-party in the RCC then the LH lounge then the KL lounge then back to the BA lounge. Oh yeah - please pick me Randy!

Randy knows and has met on several occassions many of the people on this board. We are not a group of "not previously know individuals".

jmd001 Jun 13, 2008 8:00 am

Yesterday afternoon, I snagged an elusive two-night award at the Hilton Paris (can't bring myself to type those two words in the other order). That was after reserving a two-night award at Hilton Orly earlier in the day when no awards were available at Hilton Paris. (That Orly res is another story. Will post that story in the HHonors Forum later.)

Now to wait and see if my luck holds out today and I get picked to be one of "the FT 20"! ("The FT 20" ... sounds like a group getting ready to be brought up on charges.)

THANKS, RANDY!!!!

Well if you've ever seen one of the anti-MR posts that sometimes go up in MR deals....they usually make it (MRs/excessive flying) sound pretty criminal.

On another note...do they know to pack lots of extra wine and booze on these flights?

KLC Jun 13, 2008 8:20 am

Hmmm.... I'm wondering if the collective "just in case" Hilton award reservations will be cancelled by those not selected as FT20s to make room for those who are, or if the weekend will become an impromptu FT Do for a larger group!

JAP Jun 13, 2008 8:33 am

Fingers crossed !!

Would be doing a trip to NYC to pick-up the Openskies flight back if picked :eek::D !

Did I miss reading how winners will be notified today? PM? Email?

Is this contest open only to people who have met Randy?

I didn't see anything on that either, nor a time other than "after 12PM MT". Kinda hoping that, on the off chance I win, notification comes earlier rather than later, as I'd still need to secure time off. :D

Also would have to figure out hotel stuff. Wonder if you can hop the shuttle for the Novotel Orly-Rungis and walk to the Formule 1 down the street?

I guess I'm tethered to computer this afternoon then. I had planned to spend this gorgeous day out and about.

oh well all those desserts. lets not forget about a great dinner to start. tour d'argent, taillevent, or alain ducasse

MKEbound Jun 13, 2008 12:21 pm

I took a quick look and could still book 2 nights at the Hilton Orly on HHonors.com with no Diamond force. (Cat 4, 60,000 points for the weekend)

krobbins Jun 13, 2008 12:33 pm

I sure hope I get picked - my husband will be on a business trip and my kids are at camp, so I was trying to figure out where to go. This would make the decision so easy!!! I'm waiting...

Randy says... this is a tax free trip. @:-)
He went on to discuss that this was a freebee that he was passing along to 20 of his closest friends. He went on to say, that if anyone somehow got 'stuck' for the taxes, he'd shell out the dough. ^

so... all FT members could enter... but only Randy's 20 closest friends stand a chance of winning.... so why bother telling all of us about the promotion since those of us who don't know Randy obviously don't stand a chance?

KLC Jun 13, 2008 12:42 pm

I thought "closest friends" was just Flyertalk parlance for all of our community acquaintances. I know it's how I describe the folks I'll see at a Do to my family and other friends. Often, the phrase is "my xx closest friends whose names I don't know!"

MikeMpls Jun 13, 2008 12:45 pm

But you do know our names! I'm Mr. Mpls, Ms. "C".

This is when I wish I'd actually registered WifeMpls, so she'd also have a chance at this. I guess she's going to be sitting down with my computer this weekend.

I would like to think the issue is the imprecision of the transcription of the conversation and interpretation of the written word, not a "wired" selection process.

That is, I would like to think the "20 closest friends" statement was made with a major wink of the eye to indicate that if he was ever asked by the IRS he would take the position that any subscriber to FT is one of his "closest friends".

krobbins Jun 13, 2008 12:47 pm

I'm with you Mike - that's the first thing I thought of too... why didn't I register Mr. krobbins???

True enough, but the Flyertalk handles are difficult to use at the hotel front desk when we try to call each other!

Knowing Randy, that's exactly what he means. Nothing shady to report there. A manwho defines integrity.

You are correct. @:-)

Can't say that I'm amazed how people have mis-read 20 of my closest friends.

Since I can't go due to the BRT, I'll wait out the next one. :D :p ;)
That statement I'll allow you to read any way you want to.

My wife has already told me that if I win - - She will ride in the back - looks to be seats open back there. - but it would be cheaper if she flew out the next day

Maybe we can swing a Flyertalk rate for the remaining open seats!

congrats,

if they all went out around the same time, i think im in trouble :) have fun! ill cancel my rooms now :(

lucky9876coins Jun 13, 2008 3:36 pm

I wouldn't cancel anything yet. Keep in mind there might be people that all of a sudden realize they can't make it (probably finally realize reposition costs to NY, not to mention the cost of everything in Paris), and therefore others might get those places. Nothing's over yet, IMO.:)

MikeMpls Jun 13, 2008 3:37 pm

Which is 12:41 MDT, or almost 3 hours ago. Those who haven't been emailed probably should start breathing again.

Congratulations to those who won!

I got my confirmation around the same time! WOW! Thanks! Now going to buy lotto tickets...
