We did... although most of the evening was dedicated to watching Up in the Air :D

So, who's up for an ADK do? :D

Actually, it's the same as any other domestic destination.

Y'all can go to ADK on your own if you want--the rest of us will just go to Seward. :p

I think the plan is leaning towards taking the very scenic Alaska Railroad to Seward on Saturday morning, doing a full-day harbor cruise (in the words of SeeYa, it was the best $150 she ever spent), staying overnight at the HIX, and checking out Exit Glacier and the Sea Life center before heading back to ANC on the Sunday evening train.

The pre-DO (or post-DO) flight experience will likely be to check out the northernmost point in the U.S.: BRW.

This'll be happening around June 21--also known as Summer Solstice. We'll be posting details and exact dates in a bit, and, of course, things are subject to change. But start making sure your calendar is clear now! :D

SWD... via AKRR? Scenic yes, but soo slow! Glad there is decent fishing down there, and lots of places to go fishing and sleep in a tent :D

Perhaps we'll have to do ANC-ADK-SWD-BRW-ANC :D

From LAX, I booked in F from LAX-SEA-ANC-ADK-ANC-SEA-LAX for 50K miles. You can do it from BOS for 50K ^

:p As long as there is constant stream of booze coming in our way [ANC BR, in the plane, at a bar on the ground, on the plane again, and so on :D]!

All these Do's are hurting my chances of getting MVPG75K. Oh well at least MVPG is almost out of the way. I really want to go to BRW so i can pass on ADK

I know... but since ADK is subsidized, don't know how long that will last... plus one gets a higher cpm usage out of ADK then BRW :p

Ugh... just realized the dates of solstice... might be limited participation again for me... as I am heading to DCA for 2 weeks on the East Coast the 24th... :(

jackal Mar 23, 2010 6:50 pm

Work may present an issue with the weekend immediately before Solstice (the 19th and 20th, IIRC). Someone has to cover for me, and the only other person who can almost ALWAYS has big family plans on the Saturday nearest to Solstice.

The following weekend may work, or possibly July 4th weekend could work as well. (Fireworks at midnight when it's light outside is a unique experience! :D) Will try to come up with more concrete plans as soon as possible so people have the most time to book flights and hotels...

I have a MR booked to ANC next month. Yea i know Mileage Run and ANC do not usually mix (its was only $100RT more than my usual BOS-PDX-BOS + i get to stop over in PDX both ways).

I'll be arriving Sunday May 9th 10:30am leaving 2:30pm same day. My plan was just to hang out in the Boadroom and eat lots of soup and drink a lot of beers (3 max). I'm not sure its enough time to really leave the airport but I'm open to suggestions

I do not normally wake up terribly early on Sunday mornings, since I work Saturday nights until the wee hours of the morning, but if possible, I will see about stopping by. Will PM you with details...be checking FT (or have your PMs forwarded to your email)... :D

If I can make it, looking forward to meeting up with you again!

That's plenty of time! You can get a rental/taxi downtown in 10 or 15 minutes, go to Humpy's or Simon's for some good salmon, king crab, and/or beer, get back, and use the express security lane for the three minute walk to your gate.
