Chicago (Loop) Get-Togethers - October 7-9: Lunch on 9th

I'll be in Chicago in early October to do some sight-seeing and would love to meet any FTers for lunch and/or dinner. I'll be staying near the Water Tower and won't have a car, but can follow mass transit directions fairly well.

Right now, I have open times for dinner on Sun 10/7, lunch or dinner on Mon 10/8, and lunch on Tue 10/9. Pretty much open to any type of food.

Hope to see as many of you as possible!

Events:

Tuesday, October 9 11:30 a.m. (at The Beer Bistro for $2 Burger Tuesday)

I'm at a client convention in New Orleans during that time, sorry to miss you.:(

Derek Sep 10, 2007 7:52 am

That's Canadian Thanksgiving, so I'll be up north for the weekend, but lunch on Tuesday might be fun.

ElmhurstNick Sep 10, 2007 1:19 pm

I should be free for an early lunch (say 11:30) downtown on Tuesday, although I have to be out in the suburbs by 3:30.

Sorry, Derek, I mis-read your post. Now corrected.

BangkokTraveler Sep 11, 2007 10:57 am

I should be OK for Tuesday lunch. You might not get too many people for Sunday night, Bears/Packers are at 7:15pm, the city stops for that!

Tuesdays are $2 burger day at Beer Bistro, yummy! ILuvParis is known to sleep in front of the place all night so he can be first in line when they open. :p

No worries. I just thought you were anti-Canadian.

Would love to join you, but I'll have a house guest on Sunday and I leave for SEA/PDX Monday morning. Have a good time!

No, he's anti-Thanksgiving.

Just cleared my calendar - count me in.

ILuvParis Sep 15, 2007 9:22 pm

I should be able to make it, assuming there is no strangely scheduled NLDS game that afternoon (yes, I know I'm making a big assumption). :)

bschaff1 Sep 16, 2007 9:25 pm

I'm doing the Marathon on the 7th, but am a definite for the 8th. Beer Bistro is a great establishment and the variety of beers is amazing.

cawhite Sep 16, 2007 10:04 pm

I'm supposed to be out of town that week, but it's marked on my calendar so if something changes & I can make it for Tuesday's lunch I'll let you know. :)

JerseyJoe Sep 17, 2007 11:04 am

Mrs JJ and I would love to join the crew but I'm off chasing steelhead in BC Canada that week.

TrueBlueFlyer Sep 17, 2007 1:20 pm

too bad I'll miss this by a few weeks

my Chicago trip isn't until October 20-22

would love to hear some ideas though for places to see and food to try

thanks,
--Russ :)

FlyinHawaiian Sep 19, 2007 1:37 pm

List updated; hard to argue with $2 burgers, so I hope everyone is ok with that for Tuesday's lunch.

Looks like I can take the bus there from the Water Tower.

Sounds like fun; I often travel up to Bella Bella, BC for the fall Coho and Chinook runs.

Or you can hop on the Mr Pillows express.

You can take the bus but you'll have to change at least once (http://tripsweb.rtachicago.com). It would be a good 30 minute walk or $10 cab ride. You could always walk to Madison Street (a little over a mile south of you) and hop on the #20 Madison St bus that will take you right there.

With such a big group, maybe we should call for a table a few days before, this is not a big place.

Would someone like to volunteer for that task, please? :)

I saw that! Looks like the game would be needed on the 9th if the series goes the distance. Let's hope it doesn't need to come to that.

Go Cubbies! ^

When I first read this, I thought "goat karma" was a reference to DisgruntledGoat :p

It is unfortunate that BJ will be in Europe early next week. BJ is sad to be missing this one. BJ will be missed. :(

BangkokTraveler
can do that if he thinks it's necessary - or he can show up at when they open, since it's a 60 second walk for him. ;) We won't need someone to hold a table at 11:30 in the a.m. unless our numbers grow.

Looks like it will be a night game, if necessary.

BangkokTraveler Oct 2, 2007 2:57 pm

You are right, probably at 11:30am, it will not be a problem.

Friendly bump. :)

I'm now a definite "no" for this one. Enjoy the burgers at Beer Bistro - hopefully the wx will hold & y'all can have a great table (or two) outside!

Great! Looking forward to meeting you!

Made it in this afternoon after travelling to or from DEN three days in a row. A super gate agent in DEN saved my bacon this afternoon when my 777 XC turned into a 777 XP and my Row 8 seats turned into a closet. About to hit the town and find a place to watch the Bears vs. Packers game; let's hope they fare better than the Cubbies.

See you all on Tuesday...

The Bears fans I watched the game with were too busy screaming "holding!" every time the Packers moved the ball, I don't think they even noticed that the Bears won! Everyone of them was convinced the Bears would get blown out (even though they were only 3 point underdogs and playing a team that makes too many mistakes), but as they left they were complaining. This is typical behavior of football fans here in Chicago, I'll never quite understand it.

Quite different than the baseball fans. :p

Derek Oct 8, 2007 2:08 pm

Laundry done, I'll be there.

ElmhurstNick Oct 8, 2007 3:04 pm

Does anybody know any street parking near the restaurant with long-term meter parking? Or a cheap pay lot open at 7am? I'm heading out to the suburbs after lunch, so I was thinking it would be cheaper to just park over there and take the #20 bus to the office and back to the restaurant, then get on 290 from there after lunch.

FYI, Adams (as well as some of the streets perpendicular to it just south of the restaurant) is meter free and you can park all day without any restrictions. If you are there by 7:00 a.m., you should have no problem getting a space. If, by chance, you can't find something, call me and I'll get you a permit for my guest lot for the day on Adams (between Aberdeen and Morgan).
