I love dos because I'm with my people (those who are as dorky about travel as I am). :)

Besides that, I have met some really wonderful people, and consider some of them to be among my best friends.

edited to add: some people even meet at weird places like El Paso, Ljubljana or (in 2008 ;)) Bratislava

Is someone planning a DO in Bratislava for 2008? I have friends there and might be up for that.

No kidding! Nothing wierd-er than sitting down to some incredible food and incredible company...and the whole status/miles/points thing comes up. Probably inevitable at anything Flyertalk, but yeah, where is that yawning icon? I wonder if it's available as a "flashcard" to hold up when the conversation takes that turn.....

I like DOs for two primary reasons:

1. The people. I have met some of my best friends at DOs. The really cool thing is that they live all over the world. Where/how else could I have met them?

2. The experiences. FlyerTalkers have talked/conned/coerced me into doing all sorts of crazy and wonderful things that I would never have done on my own.

GK got me to climb a little mountain in Hong Kong.

Rudi coerced me into visiting the top of Europe

Bernie has taken me to many fabulous parties in Dusseldorf, including boat rides, carnivals, pre-carnivals, jazz fesitvals--almost too many wonderful times to remember.

Dovster drug me through Israel.

dhammer showed me Brooklyn.

And that is just the tip of the iceberg. I look forward to many, many years of travel, fun and friends ala FlyerTalk

DO's are fun, but I don't think you can single out "DO'S" as great FT events.

SOme of my favorite FT events have been smaller events, just a few people or meeting a Flyertalker one on one for dinner or a drink. Do's are fine but it's sometimes hard to talk to people or get to know them when there are 50 or more people around. At a smaller events everyone gets a chance to talk or contribute and be part of the experience.

Perhaps the best thing about DO's has been what BAMAT said... you make freinds and like her... I've met some Flyertalkers who have become good friends (and one my BEST Friend.)

I'd like to offer to bring and blow my whistle I got during the Party in Paradise as my "gift" for my former alter ego as Commander Catcop (retired and helping me with bookeeping in my Cat sitting business.)

The miels and points are nice but I'd also like to hear other things like... what is Argentina like. :)

Where else can you get in a car with three people you have never met before and spend 2 hours crossing state lines looking for booze?????? Do's are DEFINITELY about the people!

why do you like DOs?

They're so much more fun than DON'Ts.
