Trip Advisor - which FTers regularly post there?
This other thread I started with quotes from a couple of FTers that was posted on Trip Advisor got me thinking... how many regular FTers regularly participate on Trip Advisor?
Ive been posting there for a while now, but participate almost exclusively in the Argentina Forum. Anybody else? |

I am also an amateur hotel reviewer. My goal is to dispel the myths set forth by the people who came before me (on TripAdvisor). :)
|
Intersting... Im more of a poster than a reviewer, although Ive started up a few Inside Pages. What are you views on the reviewing aspect... do you think that the reviews get more traffic than the forums?
|
I read the complaints but don't take them too much to heart unless it is something that the hotel can't fix, like location.
I've seen some horrible posts and wonder if the hotel next door is deliberately posting lies to benefit their hotels...and I've seen posts so glowing that I think sometimes the hotel manager or owner is posting them from their home computers to drum up business. But it is very informative to get a mini preview of the property from those who have stayed there before. |
Good points.... one of the things I dont get about TripAdvisor is that they dont have tools to let members communicate with one another, I dont seem to understand why they dont want this to happen. What am I missing?
|
I have posted in TripAdvisor. In particular I have posted in Mendoza and Patagonia forums.

I also post hotel reviews, but the only other travel board I participate in is slowtalk, the forum of slowtravel. My business is focused in Italy and their Italy board is interesting and often very helpful. |
Up until now, I have not really contributed on the website. I find it to be one of the most useful travel websites, though, and ALWAYS choose hotels based on it!^

Mi Amigo,
I post in the NY forum and the Airline forum. :o FYI, the Brooklyn forum is very quiet on TA. The thing that bothers me the most is that the same questions get asked every 2 days. No one 'searches'. ;) |
I know Randy is raking in $$$ with FlyerTalk, but he should keep an eye out on TripAdvisor because they have some great features. I find the message board threads on TA easier to navigate, much easier to search and of course the user-posted pictures of hotels is a great feature.
I think they have more traffic than FT with lots of newbies so more basic questions to sift through. The new user profile is great, because you can easily see the person's info and previous posts to see why their opinion may be different than yours, again, something FT does not easily do. (Yes, FT is more targeted to crazy point collectors like us and hard to compare the two, but things can change quickly on the internet) |
I use Tripadvisor all the time. It is a great resource.
Most of my posts are in the Cancun forum. When planning my coming Africa trip, I checked out all of the hotels and camps recommended by my agent and even made a change or two. Overall, I was impressed with my agent's picks and feel more comfortable about the entire trip. |
I post in TripAdvisor.
I don't spend a lot of time in such sites, but I find sites like TripAdvisor.com & BetterBidding.com very useful when I need them. |
FTer Trekker just posted an excellent trip report on the Bariloche area... a great read!!
|
I do post on TripAdvisor since I get a lot of helpful information form the site. I dont post on every hotel but try to post the ones that are exceptionally good or bad.
