Sydney sometime between Sep 5 - 9?

Will be in the PH Sydney (on points, natch!) during these dates. This is at the end of our Ozzie trip through the REAL outback in the top end, starting in a few weeks. Anyone up for lunch or dinner? Suggest a time/place!

Check with ozstamps via email.

This will help make you hungry: http://www.bridgeclimb.com/

Also, if you could be be so kind as bring back a jar of Maccona Classic for me .... :p

Sept 5-8 are good (weekday early drinks and/or meal) if they suit Richard & Oz... ^
- Bridgeclimb would be great in September, with the twilight one the pick of them.

Without a doubt, for a FlyerTalker a visit to Australia without meeting Ozstamps is like making a virgin visit to Paris and passing up on the Eiffel Tower.

Having met him in Tel Aviv, I could tell you how enjoyable it is to spend time with him. I said I could but I won't -- there is no point in making his ego even bigger than it is now. :D

Shame, I'll miss you by a day. I even have the same hotel booked on points, having hoped I could switch to FFN by the time I arrived - no joy there.

When do you arrive? I will be in SYD September 14-19 for the marathon.

Actually, we're there from Sept 4 - 10, just arrive late on the 4th. Business is too good for hotels these days, I wouldn't expect FFN to return anytime in the near future (IMO).

I think the bridge climb, while it sounds nice, is WAY overpriced. My kids are in Sydney right now and they picked para-repelling (or something like that) the Blue Mountains -- at the same price as the bridge climb -- without hardly thinking twice about it.

We've met him twice at SFO, although I must admit I never thought of comparing him to the Eiffel Tower. For starters, there was no admission charge to meet OzStamps! I keep wondering if he will post on this thread: it's a test. If he doesn't, before long, I'll email him!

I agree. I've skipped it over and over for that same reason ;)

...and you're not even allowed to take your own camera :(

But it's a great way to view downtown Sydney! I agree they appear to be pricing it for what the market will bear, and they really hit you up afterwards for extra photos & souvenirs, too. But I have no regrets.

And the beautiful babe that was chained to the bridge for 2.5 hours just behind me would have had dovster drooling.

Looks like I will be missing all of you. I leave SYD September 4. :(

Richard - so do I win the prize? An actual pound pastrami sandwich was on offer - IIRC. ;)

Would love to hook up but we will be in the jungles of Suriname in South America that week. Via a week in Colonel Gaddafi's Libya North Africa, where booze is 100% verboten, even in tourist hotels. For us that will be a real fun week.

And back via a visit to the DMZ in Korea, so 4 continents in 2 weeks. Have fun here ... the outback visit sounds fun. :)

Glen,

Welcome back! It's great to see you posting again -- a lot of us missed you.

RichardInSF Aug 4, 2006 4:49 pm

Oz--

I don't know how much pastrami you can get for a pound these days, but whatever amount it is, it's yours! Sorry we won't be able to hook up then, looks like you will be in places as strange as I will be -- really looking forward to two nights at Hell's Gate Roadhouse!

Speaking of food (with potentially a view), don't forget that there is a seafood buffet at the Sydney Harbour Marriott. I've not tried it (may do soon) - the restaurant was OK in its previous incarnation.
Will leave Richard to pick his fave food, first.
Cheers ^

RichardInSF Aug 7, 2006 1:33 am

Hmmm....I've stayed at that Marriott, but the only place I ate at there was in the club room. What's the buffet price and when is it served? Sounds like a definite possibility.
