The best time to go to Andechs is the early afternoon (say, 2-3pm). They stop serving beer at 8.30pm.

There are two strategies for meeting up: the efficient German way, and the Bavarian way.

The efficient German way would be having passengers wait at a central location (e.g., Hauptbahnhof), with drivers coming by at 1.30 for pick up.

The Bavarian way, of course, would be to meet at 10.30 or so, for Weisswurst and some beer in a place like the Augustiner. The advantage of this approach is that more beer and food can be consumed (or rather: it can be consumed earlier in the day), but the downside is that we may never make it to Andechs.

and why not meet for example at 11h30 at nordfriedhof u-bahn and then drive to andechs? some people have plans for the evening / late afternoon and are only available for extended lunch

Bumping up to make some executive decisions :D

Latest plans

Montag, 26 Dec.
Dinner at Nürnberger Bratwurst Glöckl am Dom, upstairs, 7 p.m.

Dienstag, 27 Dec.
???

Mittwoch, 28 Dec.
Dinner, Augustiner (Nuehauserstr. 27, off Marienplatz), 7 p.m.

Donnerstag, 29 Dec.
Road trip to Kloster Andechs. Caravan from Munich City Hilton leaves at 11:30, arriving at Nordfriedhof B-bahn at ??? to pick up additonal revellers for the drive to Anedechs. Is this workable, reasonable? Please advise.

As soon as I get in to MUC on the 21st, I'll post my cell #. I'll also be reachable by PM and email via FT.

jajajaja.. take those ???s away from my name, I am in town and you know where I live, will be hard to avoid you guys in a town as tiny as this :)

I am in Austria to see my horse on the 27th, Andechs sounds good and I can get my Moms car (Scenic, so 5 adults fit just fine). Not sure about the rest yet, as I am supposed to do research for my senior project sometime too.

Btw, its white with fluffy snow outside, and supposed to stay about the same for the next week :)

Tell me about it. I was near Passau yesterday on business, and drove home on the "scenic" route (B12 via Altötting)...

Snow was really heavy, up to 4 inches on the road. Felt exhausted once I got home at around 11pm...

Yup. My BMW 3-series Kombi has sufficient space. But if we have too many cars, I don't mind to leave it at my office or the hotel and have some beer ;)

This or the 28th sounds great to us. We can still get a car if we need to since there are 5 of us. Let me know and I'll get it reserved.

This is really sounding great and with the snow, even that much better.

What is the weather report for Wednesday driving from MUC to Innsbruck?

NCRBILL Dec 18, 2005 4:28 pm

We were thinking of a side trip to Prague for a overnight stay. How would you get there? Would you go by Train or rent a car and how long would it take to get there by each?

Please advise.

NCRBILL Dec 18, 2005 4:31 pm

Sounds like we are going to have fun

I'd be happy to volunteer as a designated driver for Andechs. I'm not a beer drinker (or wine drinker, or anything but a White Russian drinker).

take the train to Prague... I dont remember how many hours it is, about 6-8 I would guess, but its a nice train ride and Prague has good public transport. Rental car companies are weary of lending for trips to the former East block out of insurance reasons.

As for the car to Andechs, I would be happy to drive as I dont drink beer anyway (insert Apfelschorle joke right here)

Prague is wonderful in Winter. It can be very cold, though. Getting there by train is a hassle, and it takes forever. Your best bet would be a rental car; budget about 5 hours each way. You can also turn this into a great roadtrip, and stop at exciting cities such as Plzen (home of the Urquell beer) and Regensburg.

Well, that's just swell. You could say it's white here in PDX, too, except that it's frozen -- meaning ice. I may not get out of here on Tuesday as scheduled.

Well let's hope all will let you get out of the cold to get back into the cold. Look forward to seeing you when you get to MUC.

What are your flights to get to MUC?
