Do sum dim sum in SF on Oct 8, 11:30am?

At the dinner following the SF mileage run seminar, a bunch of us were discussing dim sum, which leads me to believe that it's been a long time since there's been a dim sum do in SF.

Location: Canton Dim Sum & Seafood at 655 Folsom Street, near 3rd.

Anyone know if they will take a booking for this number of people?

Dim sum sounds great, but unfortunately I will be out of town on 10/8 (I'll be in Europe on the BA $560 WT+ fare, for which I'll hopefully be getting ~40K miles due to my switching to a european address and the current triple miles promo). Will the following week work as well?

In terms of restaurants in SF, Yang Sink (in the financial district) has good dim sum, but is pricey because you are also paying for the ambience. It will probably be easier on the eardrums than any of the other dim sum restaurants though. I don't like the dim sum places in the SF chinatown as much as the places in the South Bay though to be fair I've only tried a couple because of the inconvenience factor of going to a restaurant in SF Chinatown vs a south bay location. Actually, my current favorite is a new restaurant in Union City--it has the best shrimp/mango eggrolls, which I haven't had at other places. (Also, Union city is closer to where I live than San Jose, so I haven't really tried as many places around there.)

Enjoy your trip to Shanghai! Shanghai cuisine isn't know for dim sum (for that, you have to go to Hong Kong) but for having featured dishes that contain lots of sugar. My mom doesn't think very highly of Shanghai cuisine, but she is biased because she grew up with the ultra-spicy sichaun cuisine.

May I please suggest that you contact rbAA, he is an expert on SF dim-sum. If he could join you it would be excellent company.

While I would love to attend, I have a wedding to attend in Singapore that weekend. Sure those who attend will have fun.

IMO - Best Dim Sum in SF is at Ton Kiang out on Geary and about 21st (?). It is very close to Hong Kong Flower Lounge, which takes #2 in my book.

I will try to make this one, my first FT do.

-Just got back from Shanghai, where I was underwhelmed by the cuisine

How about a San Fran and vicinity DO SUM at lunch on Saturday, October 8? Now all we need are suggestions as to the place, don't just limit yourself to the City!

(And this is despite me going to Shanghai tomorrow, we all know the dim sum is more authentic in SF :) )

Dick what a great idea! ;) You were a great organizer at the last event. Please count me in for great food and even better company. See you then!

The "ZenPeninsula" in Millbrae, serves great Dim Sum. They make an awesome Custard Tart.

Thank you, best. I can not claim to be an expert in this area. And, I will be having dim sum at Maxim's in HK on 10/8, so can not attend.

RE:SF dim sum

Any chance of doing this 10/9 rather than 10/8. Sundays are much easier for me. And I might as well throw Fook Yuen into the suggestions, since Millbrae has already been mentioned.

Oh darn, I have a MR scheduled for 10/8. :D

Second Fook Yuen, or perhaps Chef Chu's in Palo Alto?

My wife and I would enjoy attending.

There is also a great place on 4th and Howard. I think that's where it is... definitely across the street from the State Dept. office building. Cathay Gardens? Yellow sign, voted as best in SF a few times. I like it and can check the name if others are interested....

What time of day are we talking about? We have an engagement later in the afternoon.

BearInCali would take any opportunity for DS. Personally, I'm not much for it but would show up just for the company :D

Unfortunately I'll be out of town also on a business trip to RDU... otherwise I'd love to do it. :(

I think we should start at 11:30am sharp, no later, to be a little ahead of the rush -- most dimsum places don't take reservations.
We'd probably still have to wait for a table.

KS-- yes, check the place out if you can. We also have a Daly City suggestion from party_boy.
