I've been to this one a couple of times and really enjoyed. Large dining room and wasn't crowded at least when I ate there. Also great location near Moscone. All of the ones suggested so far sound great!.

Sounds like the choice to me, I've not been there and would love to try someplace new. Anyone object to Cathay Gardens at 4th and Howard? Only problem is when I do a search, the only SF Cathay Gardens shows up way far away from 4th and Howard, so that wouldn't be the name maybe.

I think you can count me in, plus a sidekick.

Sounds fun.

The one I was thinking of turns out to be Canton Dim Sum & Seafood at 655 Folsom Street, near 3rd. http://www.cantonsf.com/
I had to have a friend remind me what I was thinking of. Don't know if it's what KSinNYC had in mind, but they have won awards and I thought it was as good as the one's on Geary etc.

Edited to add: Forgot to say, most likely count me in wherever it is :)

Amazing, that place is really close to Yank Sing, yet I don't recall ever trying it -- which means that it is the obvious candidate. So is everyone OK with Canton Dim Sum? Should be street parking in the vicinity and 3rd st isn't too close to the "California Wine Country" portion South of Market. This place wouldn't be far from Moscone.

Speak now or I'll declare this to be the place!

I am a strong may be, please sign me up also.

For those of you looking for new dimsum restaurant to try, you might want to check out DimSum King in Daly City in the future.

Everything is cooked to order at DimSum King, and they serve dimsum the entire day. It has become my local favorite, especially if I have a sudden craving in the afternoon. Not quite as good as Koi Palace, but better than Fook Yuen in Millbrae. Serves a different clientele from Yang Sing, so less expensive.

I am not affiliated in any way, just a reasonably satisfied customer that live a few blocks away.

There's a really good place near 16th and Guerrero... can't think of the name at the moment :( it's small, no big tables although I'm sure they could put something together... wish I could attend :(

Yes, that's the place. At least the photo in the About Us picture looks very familiar. (thanks Out of Office!) Sorry about the name... you know how sometimes you just know where something is and you can get there just fine, but if somebody else asks then you're stumped? :)

As I said, I think they're reasonably good, but I am totally open to new places too.

Count me in....

Is it definite that it will be Canton Dim Sum? If so, you ought to edit the first post to reflect that, Richard.

Drat! I arrive into the SF area (SJC) on the 8th, but my flight does not arrive until 1:00 p.m. It would have been fun to meet some of the west coast FT. Have fun!

I don't think it's definite yet, Kathy. Richard said he'd confirm Canton Dim Sum if there were no other suggestions... then other suggestions cropped up :D

BTW, Richard, would you please reflect Daringdoo +1
(or just add "BearInCali" to the 'coming' list)

See y'all there.

Bump, because I just want to.

Daringdoo Sep 26, 2005 6:53 pm

Looks like Canton Dim Sum

Seems the suggestions for other locations have stopped coming. Should we commit to Canton Dim Sum?

Yup, I just edited the first post to make it official. Still no clue if they take bookings -- I'm in Seoul tonight, please, no Blues Brothers jokes! :)

Telfes Sep 27, 2005 8:22 am

I've contacted them to inquire about the booking possibilities. Will let everyone know when I hear back.
