Well I flubbed the whole dinner meetup thing, but the rest of the trip was cool. Maybe if I had thought to post my seat assignment, somebody might have recognized the unconscious lump. I was having fun hanging out with all the Northwest folks so I was rather late to board and I needed to sleep NRT-SIN as it was. By the time I woke up, we were well into approach.

Now I have to go gripe about my ticketing screw-up over on the United board, but the rest of the trip was a blast. Although I was a little puzzled about why were met at the aircraft in SFO for an impromptu passport check. Too many short-turn flyers? The crew knew who some of us were, as it was the same group we came out with Sunday. :)

So did any of you make it into the city for a hawker stand or other stop?

I did. I was on the NW run, spending only 5 hours in SIN. Joined three other FTers for a quick jaunt to Newton Circus food court. Very glad I did - the black pepper crab and Satay were awesome!

DA1DAN, AKIRA and I did. We first went to Lau Pa Sat and saw the action was dying down so we continue on to Newton Circus. Surprised that we missed you there, everywhere we went, DA1DAN displayed his bright $2 yellow “Flyertalk” tag proudly on his black back pack. We weren’t too hungry, but we ate every bit of Chilli Crab and that huge plate of fried rice. After we got kicked out of Raffles and got security in trouble, we then walked to the river front’s Merlion Park. Lastly, we took a small rest at The Fullerton’s lobby (to cool off) before catching a taxi back to the airport. Our taxi driver told us that we paid too much at Newton Circus and suggested Lau Pa Sat or East Coast Marina, ½ way into town from the airport.

Glad you enjoyed it and got out of the airport/into the city for a bit! Singapore is such a fun place it's a shame to spend an entire layover in the airport if you've got more than 3 hours. And now you have other ideas for the next time you're there!
