Happy Chanukah!

I just wanted to wish those FlyerTalk members who celebrate Chanukah to have a happy holiday.

May the potato latkes and the chocolate gelt taste even better this year, and may a special gift of health, wealth and happiness be given for each of the eight nights...

I hope that comes through :)

Let me add my good wishes for Chanukah for all who celebrate.

Canarsie very eloquently has expressed my sentiments.

I was just taking a break from preparing for tonight's celebration and found this thread. I've got the cream cheese, lox, whitefish, herring in cream sauce, deviled eggs and fresh bagels and bialys from Bell on Foster Avenue. I'm ready for them all at around 5:30 when I'll make the potato latkes. Thus I join everyone else in wishing all a peaceful, healthy and joyful holiday season and year.

Bell/B&S Bialy is unquestionably, undeniably and absolutely my favorite place in the world to ge bagels and bialies — and they are located in Canarsie!

Now I am hungry for some...

And where you live, you're unlikely to get any nearly as good. But I will wish you and yours and everybody else around FT a wonderful, healthy, and happy Hanukah and a great holiday season. Go in good health.

I would also add that Bagel Boys in Great Neck has some amazing Bagels and Bialys.

Again, wishing all a happy and healty Chanunkah

What Canarsie said. Happy Hanukkah!

(I always learned the other spelling - any reason for the difference Chanukah/Hanukkah?)

There is a gutteral sound made in the back of the throat for the “Ch” in Chanukah (similar to German) that is not found anywhere in the English language.

The hard “Ch” is the closest sound that the English language has to the authentic pronunciation. However, in English, either spelling is considered okay.

I have also seen Hanuka and Hanukah as well.

I wish I were invited for dinner ;) This menu would make anyone have a Happy Chanuka.

By the way, what is a bialy?

It is the short form of the name for a Bialystock roll. I presume that they were first made in the city of Bialystock. They are composed of mostly gluten flour not boiled (as are the bagels) and are about the diameter of a typical Kaiser roll. After baking they are dusted with flour and sometimes fillings such as onion are put in a central depression. They are really pretty good stuff. Next time I'm seeing you and coming from NY, I'll freeze some and bring them along for you to see and taste.
