I will follow the advice above.

New York City (Manhattan) Dinner on July 18.

Savage25 and I are in for a nice evening.

I am in town from July 18-21 staying at the MO at Time Warner Center. If you can't join on the 18th, I am also in for a meeting on the 19th or 20th!

Please send me a private message or (preferred method) send me an e-mail to s.fourne @ t-online.de (of course without a space before and after the @ sign.)! Please include your phone number under which you can be reached around the time of a possible meeting and proposals on what to do. Thank you very much.

Any local please name a good venue with a decent menu ;) !

Thanks for your attention.

Venue in Manhattan: the choices are basically infinite.... how much do you want to spend per pax (please quote budget not counting booze) and we can help you further.

flamboyant 1 Jun 23, 2004 7:00 am

I can fortunately adapt to what the others desire price-wise. But Gaucho, if you ask me, something between 60 and 80 $ is fine with me, I will gladly take a look at your recommendations, otherwise, I will just meet Savage25 at my hotel and let the concierge make the reservation for us at a nice place in our price range.

I actually thought Doc, Arcolaio, etc. were also interested a month back...

Would be great if some more folks could turn up.

Arcolaio99 Jun 23, 2004 7:30 am

I am still interested for sure. Keep me in the loop. The earlier the better for dinner for me.

doc Jun 23, 2004 7:35 am

Yes, and I still am. Just been busy! I will certainly try to attend, and whatever, wherever is fine by me, but FWIW, a higher price may preclude some others from joining in. I'll monitor this thread and please do keep me informed, thanks.

I'm still waiting to confirm my trip, but barring any emergencies, I should be in NYC 17th-19th July staying at the Millenium Hilton. I can adapt to any budget, but less $$$ spent on food leaves more for booze :D

It will be my first trip to NYC (I will also be in town on the 11th night before leaving to ITH on the 12th morning), so it will be great to meet some NYC FTers as well.

Hi there,

I agree that the less the food costs, the more can be spend on booze. So let's say food should cost up to 45$ (maximum).
^

I am coming in from FRA in the morning, arriving at JFK around 1045 AM. Will likely be tired in the evening, so going out early would be very much appreciated. Might be better for others as well since it is a Sunday!

What about 6 PM ? Or is that too early ?

Any suggestion about the location, where we can get decent food for something between 25 and 45$ ?

Who is going to make the reservation ?

And how do I best get with 2 pieces of luggage (suitcase and golfbag) from JFK to the Time Warner Center and back to JFK ? The MO quotes a limousine at 316$ roundtrip, that is way out of my budget for an airport transfer. Of course I know the Supershuttle, does it stop near the Time Warner Center ? Or is there any other fairly inexpensive, safe shuttle ?
Subway or Train is no option with the luggage!

How to reserve the transportation ? Please send me the hints regarding the transportation to my e-mail address, which is in the first post of this thread or send me a PM. Thanks a lot!

Actually I have the following suggestion: If you have a car, time on Sunday morning just before 11AM and decent driving skills, you could provide me with an oneway or even roundtrip transportation...in exchange for the Sunday's food or complete bill up to 50$. I have to return to JFK at 8PM on Tuesday. Never mind, if you can't or don't want to drive me. I am looking forward to a nice dinner anyway.

I would like to join you, but I'll be in Providence that night.

I may be able to drive in for it, I'll let you know as we get closer.

Arcolaio99 Jun 23, 2004 11:51 am

Go with a cab. Another option is the bus that will take you to Grand central terminal and cab it from there. Bewtween those 2 you should be fine.

izzik Jun 23, 2004 12:54 pm

looks like I'll be around that weekend.. (for once)

if a restaurant hasn't been selected yet.. it may be helpful to decide what area(s) you want to be in. I wouldn't limit the selection to Midtown.. but there are some who consider the Village to be far. ;)

flamboyant 1 Jun 23, 2004 1:37 pm

Of course I would prefer something within 15 minutes walking distance of the Time Warner Center.

FInding an NYC restaurant

Flamboyant... one idea to find a relatively inexpensive place is to do a search of this forum under "New YOrk" for all the places Flyertalkers have gone to.

Also check out the NYC dining threads on Travel and DIning Buzz. Lots of write ups on lots of good restaurants there.

You may also find a place under your own, but you can find places LESS than 60 a person in NYC.

Unfortunately I work late Fridays so I won't be able to join you all. :(

The Time Warner Center is on 59th and 8th, and Lever House in on 53rd between Park and Madison. About a 15 minute walk (1 mile).

According to the owner... ^ Looks ok, quite stylish.

But if those who have attended an FT DO in NYC have a better recommendation, please take the liberty and post here. Thanks!
