These places are relatively close to Columbus Circle:

Molyvos (greek food)

Brooklyn Diner (American comfort food)

both have websites and are moderately priced.

Suggestion

Restaurant Suggestion: Rosa Mexicano on 62nd and Columbus(9th Ave).

Ground Transportation Suggestion: Concorde Limo, JFK to west side around $50 + toll/tips. I may be able to find some discount code for you if you're interested.

izzik Jun 23, 2004 5:41 pm

oops, forgot about that.

two votes for rosa mexicano. ;)

Another dining suggestion

Flamboyant... my mistake. Unfortunately I work most weekends so I can do Long Mileage runs and trips.

Some good suggestions for restaurants.

May I offer one more:

Cite, and after 8pm the world famous wine tasting menu... $62 with three courses of food and four courses of unlimited pouring of wine.

http://www.citerestaurant.com/

It has hosted a number of Flyertalk get togethers including the Catman Do Three (March, 2001.)

Don't know if you would be free for lunch. I may be free on Saturday or Sunday late morning early afternoon.

Catman, yes, I am free on Sunday for lunch. Not sure how tired I will be after the flight though. Where do you suggest to have lunch ?

Nothing fancy necessary for lunch, even a good pizza is fine with me. I arrive on Sunday at 1045 at JFK, then heading to the hotel, unpack some stuff, will probably have time after 12:45! We can meet at Columbus Circle, I would prefer if you came to the hotel to pick me up and show me the way to the lunch venue.

Best regards!

Arcolaio99 Jun 24, 2004 8:13 am

After checking the schedule I will not be able to make it on the 18th but the 19th or 20th will work for me. If you are up for lunch in the wall street area I am game for that or an early dinner on those days.

Catman Jun 24, 2004 8:56 am

Flamboyant... Since you are in the Columbus circle area I'll start a new thread for lunch. It could turn into brunch as well. Savage can come too.

KathyWdrf Jun 24, 2004 6:18 pm

Count me in for the dinner at least, and maybe other activities over the weekend as well!

I just got a super rate for three nights at the Sheraton Russell of only $126+tax/night (it's the Starwood 3 for 2 promo). :)

And a flight from SFO on UA for only $228 all-in. :) :)

So, I'm all set!!! :) :) :)

I've been around the boards for about a year I think (I'm sure the little blurb to the left says), and I've been meaning to meet some of y'all. Would this gathering be appropriate for a young'un like me? I actually live in NYC so there are plenty of opportunities I'm sure.

lensman Jun 24, 2004 11:39 pm

I'm a maybe for everything. I have a company event on Saturday so I'm not sure I'll have enough nesting time that weekend, but will be up for at least one of the many events.

BTW, I'm more likely to attend if everyone promises not to hog the guacamole.

P.S. This thread is only for Dinner, which should start somewhen between 6:30 and 7 PM. The location will be the Rosa Mexicano Restaurant on 62nd and Columbus(9th Ave).

Who will reserve a table ?
Maybe it is better if someone reserves a table there who has already eaten there and who is known at this place. Thanks for your attention.

I'm in for dinner. I work at 59th and 9th and have been to Rosa Mexicano on a number of occasions for work and for fun so I have taken the initiative and reserved a table for 8 for 6pm on July 18. That is the latest possible reservation for that size group.

For whoever arrives first, the reservation is under my name, Ben Naimark-Rowse. Please let me know if this revised time works for you. On a side note, the guacamole and pomegranate margaritas are very tasty.

cordelli Jun 25, 2004 2:23 pm

cordelli and mrs are definates. I think I'll hold off on telling her it's probably at rosa's, she has a thing for their frozen pomegranate drinks.

Guacamole margaritas???

Did you mean, the pomegranate margaritas and the guacamole are very tasty?

Or do they REALLY serve margaritas with guacamole in them (or a combo of guacamole and pomegranate)???

(Obviously, I am unfamiliar with this restaurant, or I would know the answer.)

;)

mntblue Jun 25, 2004 10:02 pm

They are not combo Kathy. Both are pretty famous in NY though, the guacamole are freshly made on the table. Although as lensman stated, they sure don't give you a lot for the money they charge.

I live couple blocks north of Rosa now, would love to join you all for dinner.
