As not everyone will necessarily be staying at the Ai Moro, and some of our group will be doing some more travelling in Italy, they may be interested in how to get dial up access from anywhere in the country for free. (Or almost free, it is the cost of a local telephone call.)

Go to http://abbonati.tiscali.it/internet/ and click on "Attiva Subito". The instructions are in Italian but are not particularly difficult to follow. If you need help, write to me at [email protected]

One problem: You have to give them an Italian telephone number and city. This can be worked around by choosing any city from the drop down list. Then find out what a typical phone number from that city would look like (by getting the number of a hotel, restaurant, or anything else) and type it in, changing one or two digits near the end.)

Seeing as a number of you will be showing up a couple of days before the Meet, I made a second reservation at the Ai Mori -- for the nights of Nov 18 and 19. I got an especially good bargain on those nights (probably because most FTers won't be there yet so rooms were still available): 60 Euros per night for a single.

My UIG will join me on the third night, Nov. 20.

I hold a reservation at the Danieli now (1 night) for a single room for 262€. Double rooms are much more expensive.

Transportation to VCe won't be a problem (cheap and good night trains, a lot of LCC from Germany to VCE and even LH affordable).

I now hope for a better hotel offer in the upcoming months...

Would you change my status to 'definitive'? :)

Done, and very happily!

Euro 262 a night is a good rate for the Danieli. But are you sure you don't want to take a suite at Euro 2400 a night? Think of all the Starwood Points you would get! ;)

For those of you unfamiliar with the Danieli, it is one of Venice's luxury luxury hotels, located near St. Marks and the Doge's Palace. In fact, I think the Doges built their palace because they couldn't afford to stay at the Danieli!

Count me in! I’ve been following the action from the sidelines since the MQM plan was announced, and almost made it to the PBI/FLL function. Having missed that one, I couldn’t resist the Venice Meet! I also used the infamous Platinum Exception to get award seats on the Delta JFK/VCE flights, thanks to Flyertalk and pjtraynor. I’ll be arriving Nov 19, DL 144, departing Nov 23, DL 145. Staying at the Ai Mori.

Dedehans and MsEverywhere – I’d be up for sharing a water taxi. Used one on my last trip to Venice, and being delivered directly to the hotel was worth every penny to me. There aren't very many places where you can make that kind of approach!

Good news, KLC
This is going to be a wonderful meet. Dovster I am sure you are listening. Will you take on the job of being the arrivals coordinator and I will do all of the other scouting as I am arriving on 14 Nov. (please make note on page 1 of this thread).
Quite agree that being "delivered directly to the hotel" is quite a special experience.

ralkrippner Glad you will be joining us. I hope that moderators are not expected to be chaperones :)

KLC, welcome! Of course, only on Flyer Talk would somebody from Tampa miss a meet in FLL but make it to one in Venice!

Sad to say, the Venice Meet will not be of the same high quality as its PBI-FLL counterpart. Sure, Venice has the lagoon, canals, a casino in a palace, tortellini, the Rialto, and various Veneto wines, but Cholula will not be arriving loaded with bottles of hot sauce and t-shirts.

O2K, I have no idea of what an arrivals coordinator does -- but I am certain that Marco will be doing it anyhow. However, I will discuss this further on Our Not So Serious Thread

Love to have you share the watertaxi with me and MsEverywhere. I am in seat 2A on 144....
As for coordinating arrivals....if we all know our arrivals details and post them to Dovster as per earlier request we should have no trouble "finding ourselves".... :D A good cuppa strong Italian java might be nice on arrival after that sludge they will have served us on the plane.....

See post #217 on the other thread.

Dedehans - I currently have 3E on 144 as I tend to prefer the center seats on the long flights. We can compare notes as we get closer to flight time.

Updated Post #57 with Discount Fares

I updated post #57 with more details on the fares that qualify for discounts.

If anyone can explain to me why my cheapie fare doesn't get a discount, that would be great. I will plan to ticket it tonight or tomorrow night, since I have to go to airport to hand them a voucher.

I may not be loaded down with stuff but I WILL be bringing along whatever I can round up between now and then and figure out how to haul. :)
