Any thoughts of a post Do location?
We absolutely must have a toast or even a time of remembrance for those that will no longer be with us for SIN do. Michael, Pat and Mort (Spaceman) |
Haven't booked anything but now watching with some interest.
No more Emirates flights between Brisbane and Singapore so will need to see what options there are. |
Happy to join the SIN DO again :)
Missed it a lot. When I saw this thread, I was tempted to book straight away a flight (on QR) and a hotel (the Conrad so far, but that might change). Looking forward seeing familiar FTer again and meet new ones :) |
Any updates? Need to plan my schedule accordingly as I am a Senior now.....

Potential first time attendee at this DO and also first time visitor to SIN period. Looking for advice on where to stay. I see a lot of people here at the Conrad. Conrad rates look pretty high. I think I've narrowed down my choices to:
The JW is really close to the Conrad. Do most of the official or unofficial DO events usually take place in that area? The other two properties are not close but wouldn't mind staying in a different part of town if it's relatively easy to get around. Any other properties I should consider? Even independent ones that offer luxury at a good value? |

The JW Marriott is a great property. I don't know your status with Marriott, but the breakfast buffet is single-handedly the top 5 hotel breakfasts I've seen. If you have Suite Night Awards, the property is usually good about honoring those. Between the Conrad and the JW Marriott, I'd give the nod to the JW Marriott easily. If you're looking at something a bit more economical, the Sheraton is perfectly serviceable but a bit dated. |

The usual organizers haven't chimed in, and no guarantee they ever will. But enough people have already booked, so I think it is safe to say there will be a DO of some sort on MLK weekend (July 13-16)

I am the forgetful optimist, booking flights months ago when I found award space on Japan Air using Alaska miles. Will most likely staying at the Conrad.

Singapore doesn't have really great luxury hotels like Bangkok so IMHO I don't think it's worth it to splurge to stay at one of the name brand "luxury" hotels. It's also super easy to get around via subway or grab so anywhere near the center will put you within close proximity of the Conrad. |

Orchard road is a good choice if you are interested in high-end shopping and nightlife. That is the area I would recommend for a first-timer. But Singapore has great public transportation, and taxi prices are reasonable (and unlike most of SE Asia, the taxis are honest), so any hotel should be fine. |
