Exciting LAX Area Inaugural Happy Hour

On July 27th, LA based FTers are putting on the first, of what will hopefully become monthly happy hours. A chance for newbies and road warriors alike to talk the latest in miles and points.

By making it a monthly event our hope is to allow as many people as possible to take part. Sometimes one off events don’t always work for everyone. This way, if you can’t make one date, you can always catch us at the next event.

Depending on feedback and experience, we may keep to a single location, or move around. We’ll always try to find somewhere with good parking and proximity to public transport links, as well as quality locations with favorable food and beverage pricing.

One-HourFree Parking in Parking Structures

Flyertalk parking is available in three public parking structures throughout downtown. The first one hour is free and each additional 30 minutes is $1.00 with an $12 maximum per day. Parking is available from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. Monday through Saturday and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 a.m. at the following locations:

At the top of the thread, there's a blue bar with "Thread Tools," "Search this Thread," and "Rate Thread." Under Thread Tools, you can select "Create a Wikipost" which seems like it should do it.

I am a tentative maybe at the moment.

I'm confirmed to be up in the great northwoods of Wisconsin on July 27 with family. I'll keep my eye out for other LA gatherings

I tried to book SNA-LAX but apparently they cancelled the route years ago. So I will use ground transportation, and try to get a UA voucher for ir.

Kudos to FlyingMachine for initiating what hopefully will a regular "Stammtisch" for LAX-based and visiting FTers! :tu:
Not to mention the "academic touch" added in! :)
Currently, I am up for the Library, pending travel plans for the second half of next month.

Hope you can make it. Thanks for the tip on the Wiki, I use an iPhone so I didn’t know that. I did some research and I have the multi quote function nailed down now on iOS. Perhaps for future events I’ll look into the Wiki for iOS. But for now we’ll keep things as they stand.

Several uncertainties have resolved themselves, so I am now confirmed :) arriving at noon...

... maybe someone can pick us up on the way :p or we can split a Lyft/Uber or something. I'll be overnighting at one of the Hyatt properties near LAX, expect I'll be able to check in early...

It’s great to see that so many of you are interested in this group! Hopefully this bodes well for future events.

We don’t have the venue exclusively, as a result, we’ll initially place a limit of 10 attendees. This should allow everyone to be comfortable, and be included in discussions without feeling overwhelmed or excluded. Depending on experience and feedback we may increase the limit for future events.

If you’re confirmed, but feel you can’t make it, please let us know, so we can free up space for others.

Based on the communication above. We currently have 8 people Attending (Honor Roll) and 2 people as Maybe (Studying in the Library).

I will be sending a PM to those in the Library, allow them a few days to reply before we will confirm any new attendees.

Therefore, we will be starting a new category “Waitlist” (Trying to hang with the cool kids) to accommodate those whom are interested in attending

I've currently been losing my voice for nearly two weeks, so I'm going to say that I won't be attending for now.

Will have to catch up with y'all later. That week will prove to be difficult due to work reasons. Also airfares are high AF. :rolleyes: I have an Arches NP trip on the books for later this year, so hoping to sneak in LAX either before/after.

We currently have 9 FTers confirmed for tomorrow’s Inaugural LAX Happy Hour DO (Is someone bringing the big ribbon and scissors)?

I have reserved a communal table with seating for 10, on the outside patio . Reservation is under my last name (for those who know). All others, just look for the studious group, engaged in laughter, libations, and conversations regarding miles and points. I will arrive at approximately 3:45 PM to ensure that everything is all squared away.

It was great to meet everyone last night. Old faces,and new!

As previously mentioned, I'd welcome any feedback the attendees have. Either in the thread or send me a PM.

We'll arrange another one, most probably late September, and update the thread as and when necessary.

Had a great time. Well organized and everyone was engaged into one conversation. A couple of us stayed until last call. but I won't spill the beans on who..... Ready for next one.

I enjoyed meeting everybody on this DO very much - especially the outdoor seating in the balmy SoCal weather was perfect.
Hanging out a bit longer and partaking in some interesting discussions with Nexus7556 & 1K_From_SNA rounded out the evening nicely!
