Do you remember you first.....post?
Being a relative babe to this whole thing, and seeing some of the huge post counts on peoples profiles, I was wondering if anyone actually remembers their first post?
I have been registered a while, but for one reason or another, haven't been keeping up to date as much as should. I work for AA, and September 11th had a huge affect on morale, and I became a lapsed member. In the past few weeks, the tips on this site have saved me close to a £1000, which is a nice introduction! Just wanted to say hi, and hopefully will get to know some of you guys, as you seem like a great bunch. Anyone ever fancy drinks in London, you know who to call. |
I can't remember the exact post, but I knew it had to do with getting an upgraded seat on CO from the US to Europe. In the end, the long & short of it was operational upgrades overseas are very difficult to come by http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
PS-- we missed you in Paris. Did you ever make it over??? |
Hmmm... this prompted me to go and do a search in the forums I remember reading in my early days to figure out where my first post was.
I figured it had to be in the AA forum where I have been the most active - and I found one there from mid-August 2001. A further search found one a couple of weeks earlier in the Hilton forum from early-August. Then I found post #1 from July 2001 - ironically enough responding to come to an event hosted by a couple of (then) strangers who I have come to know much better (and one of whom is now a dear friend). Funny thing was, I participated in FT Chat before I ever posted... thus my registration goes back to March 2001. I think I have to have been a lurker for two years prior to that, too, as I first found the community in 1999. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Matthew, Welcome!
The first I can remember were in December of 2000. I had listened to a time share presentation at a Marriott in Park City. I had only a few days to do research. I had been lurking on FT for a few months. The folks on the Marriott board were very helpful (seems like there was someone very rude who flamed me). But, I got all kinds of good advice that led me to make the right decision for me (not to buy). Been hooked ever since. |
First post was July 1, 1999 (tried to find it in archives, but can't). I had been lurking for about 4 months at the time. Originally found the site from WebFlyer, but can't remember how I found WebFlyer.
It talked about a UA flight I had taken from PDX-LHR-PDX. It got responses & welcomes from many of the veterans here...PremEx, Rudi, PG (pguptaat that time) and a number of others. Been part of my daily routine ever since. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
I remember my first post very well. It was quite recent and the topic was "Prettiest Flight Attendants". But there seems to be no record of it now sadly ... a victim of callous censorship.
God Bless America! |
You know, Froggy, (while I don't like the deletion of posts, especially one's like yours which are almost as funny as they are controversial), maybe you are better off.
I just went back and read some of my very early posts and I don't even know that person anymore. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif |

(P.S. I know you're talking about the other host.) As for my own post, I had returned from a biztrip on AA (LGA-DFW) earlier in the day, and related not seeing powerports on the aircraft, as well as the CSR's not having accurate information at the time concerning OneStop locations. I can't forget the date - one day before my birthday! Studley ------------------ The perfect ladies' man is a perfect gentleman. [This message has been edited by studley (edited 02-18-2002).] |
I went to Party In Paradise (in Hawaii, 1999) a lurker and came back and started my first topic and posted my first post. I think the title was, PIP: an outsider's take.
|
My first post was in May 2000 and I dont have a clue what that post was about http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Since I mostly post in the SK forum I guess my first FT post was made there.
|
Wow, I just realised, I have made 12 posts, and I can't remember what my first post was!?!
Advice to everyone, don't get old! If I am like this at 24, what I am going to be like in my twilight years I hate to think! Thank you for your replies all, keep 'em coming! |
Hmmm. Nobody seems to remember - me included.

How much would you Bless America if she stood there and (de)graded your body for the whole flight? |
Found mine:
http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/000209.html In the same thread I end up asking Blondebomber what the difference between a Junior Member and Member is!!! LOL!!! Dorian |
I don't have too many posts, but still I couldn't recall on top of my head. The search result shows that my first post was about UA cancelling SFO-STS...
|
My first post occurred during the last Century on Monday evening the Eighth of March, Nineteen Hundred and Ninety-Nine. I had just registered earlier that evening and due to time zone differences, it indicated "posted 03-09-1999 12:18 AM." I chose the America West forum to attempt my FlyerTalk debut. I have no regrets.

My first post was 01/26/99 in the UA thread regarding miles from survey(s) although I had been lurking a good 4-6 months prior. Fortunately for me, I said it was my 1st post or I never would've remembered! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have no idea... it would be great if the FT tech guys could figure out a way to create a link to your first post... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
|
Side-question:
Do you think doc remembers his first post, and do you think we will get a link to it! No offense meant by the way! Matt |
Found mine from 6600 posts ago... truly a newbie question asking how long it'll take for points to post and started to panic 4 days after the flight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I can't find my first post in the archives--- but I believe it was related to earning LatinPass credit on the TACA Peru LIM-Cuzco flight.... I was about to book a discounted ticket, not realizing that only full Y would earn credit. I would have been in deep doo doo if I got back to the states, then realized I'd have to head back to Peru to re-do the 45 min. flight. I first came across FlyerTalk as I searched fares at the school computer lab during finals week.... and when I read posts about the Y TACA Peru fares, I was still able to change my ticket.
One memorable moment: when Randy's LatinPass itinerary was posted for review, I caught a mistake (some flight was booked as TACA not Aviateca) and I e-mailed the FT folks... I like to think that my observation helped our own Randy get his Million. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Nostalgia Time — Your First Post on FlyerTalk
I thought this was an original idea, until I checked the FlyerTalk Archives and found this thread, which amazingly never made it past the first page.
The FlyerTalk community has grown considerably since the original thread was posted, so I thought I would give a second attempt at this idea. Because I currently cannot ressurrect the original thread, I thought I would start a new one here. -------------------- I have been monitoring FlyerTalk for years without posting, but I finally felt compelled to post my first milepost ever on FlyerTalk on December 16, 2002 at 9:07 in the morning Mountain Standard Time when I was angered by the changes that Delta Air Lines had in store for the SkyMiles program at the time and I had to speak out. That milepost can be found in the You are the CEO of _____ Airlines. thread, which is also the first thread I have ever started on FlyerTalk. It took me a long time to post on FlyerTalk simply because I did not believe in participating in Internet bulletin boards and Internet chats. I continued to post on FlyerTalk well after my anger subsided because I had already gained from this community previous to my first milepost and felt I needed to give back to it by helping other FlyerTalk members, and (for those of you who are now familiar with my warped sense of humor) I started to also have fun in the process! FlyerTalk remains the only Internet bulletin board in which I actively participate. -------------------- When did you post your first milepost on FlyerTalk, and what was your reason for doing so? |
GEEZ... I have no idea what my first post was. How would I ever find it other than search every forum in the Archives?
I have enough trouble remembering my Last post... much less my First post... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif William |

I sure hope I did this link right. Found my first post from October, 2001. Thanks, Canarsie for yet another fun thread. |
Thanks Canarsie - cool idea. Funny to see the timidness in some of our veteran posters in posts gone by.

First post:
Having just returned from Party In Paradise, it seems fitting to make my maiden posting. Since I hadn't participated in the bulletin board (I just tagged along with Cousin Craigsz to hang and Scuba dive), I went feeling a bit of a party crasher...yet I returned feeling a special guest. Not knowing any of you or your protocols, I had no particular expectations. Well, it was great fun from the moment I checked my liver in at the Red Carpet at LAX. I was so impressed about the great amount of work and creativity this took to pull off. Army invasions have less percision. Moreover, the generosity of so many of you was mind numbing. What struck me, however, was the total lack of glad-handing. The connections being made weren't business, but social, i.e., "Oh, I'll be in Brazil that week as well, let's get together for a drink." Now, having returned and preparing for a financial audit that the State tells me will last 15 business days, I'm reflecting that the Gala was, in a sense, my Last Supper. Jesus should have eaten so well and been surrounded by so many fellow travelers. Thanks to all for everything. |
The boards in the current incarnation were created in Spring 1998. There are still a few "old timers" from 1998 still posting today. Some first postings I found:
Matt Wald (aka Kokonutz) 5/13/98 Catman 5/29/98 MileageAddict 6/15/98 Rudi 6/29/98 [This message has been edited by MileageAddict (edited Feb 27, 2004).] |
I admit it. I had never even heard of Flyer Talk until July.
I was sitting in my BAG's (Beautiful American Girlfriend) home in Savannah getting increasingly PO'ed at some problems I was having with Delta. (My mood was not at all enhanced by some of the e-mails I was getting from my UIG (Used Italian Girlfriend) about my visit to the BAG, but that is a different story.) I did a Google search on Delta and came up with SaveSkyMiles. This, in turn, linked to Flyer Talk. My first post was a long diatribe about Delta's stupidity in overseas marketing. Much has happened since then. My BAG deserted the field, to the great delight of the UIG. Delta has corrected some (but not all) of the policies I wrote about. I have made good friends on the Delta Board. I had my first FT meet (in Tel Aviv last week) and am involved in planning a very large one in FLL this May. And, of course, I have been awarded the OBE. ------------------ Sir Dovster, OBE (Omni Boycotter Extraordinaire) |
I lurked on the board from day 1, but my first post was in November, 1999.
As far as I know, in one of my initial posts, I was the first one to mention the name "Skyteam" as a possible name for the alliance in this thread. I think my very first post might have been this one. |
You mean the first post with the second or third handle? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
j/k http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif |
I registered as soon as I saw the site. Used to look on the www.airliners.net forums (didn't register) and someone posted an excellent CX F report and a reply mentioned that it was more suitable for the 'mature tone' of Flyertalk. I came across it and registered straight away.
However my first post was a complete clanger! Asking about upgrades on the BA forum....oops! |
Here's my first one, IIRC.
|
I'm not sure how to find my first post? I check the archives for the United forum and found this http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/000345.html
Where are the General Travel forum archives? |
