Hello. My name is Tony. I am originally from Hawaii. I have been living in Los Angeles for the past 24 years. I work as an urban planner in public transportation. I essentially plan the big rail projects and I am a total travel geek. I am also an active member of the Transportation Research Board and I travel to conferences and also to research and study tours regarding transit systems worldwide.
I just joined FT a few days ago when discovered what MR was by seeing a CBS Sunday Morning Show regarding MRs. I feel like I am a latent MR person. I don't like short segments, however, I will fly them out of necessity. I would prefer long haul. Flying for me is in my blood because my parents trained me to fly on airlines when I was very young in Hawaii. I would get on a plane every weekend because flying was the only form of transportation available between the Hawaiian Islands. FT is quite entertaining, crazy, and creative with very knowledgable people within its community. I am enchanted that this community can probably outgeek anyone else in the world of airlines and other connecting forms of transportation. I look forward to meeting fellow FTers in a future MR or Do or other events in the future! Best Regards, Tony |
Welcome Tony. I'm glad that CBS could do some good! You will find that a lot of MR's people do here are not a mix of short hauls, but rather long hauls to places Asia-Pac, Europe, etc.

hi there.
this is my first post here. i'm on SQTalk, so some of you might know me; my name there is florianwagner. my name is flo (short form of florian) and i'm from vienna/austria, though i spent my childhood in melbourne. i'm a student at vienna uni, majoring in communication (minor: economics and political science) and i'm set to work as a pr manager, marketing guy or market research analyst. i like statistics (ugh!). i hate being in VIE as it's a pain to travel to australia from here. i've been a PPS and KrisFlyer Gold member on Singapore Airlines as long as they were flying to VIE. i stopped traveling three years ago because my now ex-girlfriend wasn't that much into traveling. right now i'm trying to get back my star alliance gold status on bmi (shouldn't be too hard). well, hi, that's me :D |
Hey
I've only roamed this site for the past two 1/2 years and I didn't even bother to see if a thread like this existed. So here goes:
From Hawaii. Like many, I would love to travel more if I had more money and vacation time. One child, one husband, one marriage. Numerous jobs in legal field. Last U.S. place I visited was San Francisco (I LOVE it there). Last (and only) international place I visited was Italy (LOVE it there too). I'd love to visit Greece, Morocco, Brazil, India but that will have to be in another life, or until I win the lottery. I think the people here are extremely knowledgeable and excellent in sharing this knowledge. I am a newbie so I can't offer much in info. Heck, it was only yesterday that I found out what a DBC was because I got one from United. Try Googling DBC voucher.....you won't really get a definition. Luckily, I remembered that FT had the glossary and now I'm stumping my traveler friends at work with my new acronym of the day, 'Got a DBC from UA, you wanna buy it from me?'. Great site, wonderful people....don't ever go away, okay? |
Hello. I joined this forum a couple of months ago having found it during a google search for business class seating. I was hooked instantly and used my first couple of posts to inquire about travel J class to Korea. One FT'er reccommended that I pass on a direct YVR-ICN flight aboard either KE or AC and instead head to SFO to fly the SFO-ICN aboard the new 77W with SQ. I took his advice and I will never be the same. ^
My father is a retired pilot so I have spent a lot of time in and around airplanes and even though my non-rev days are long gone, I still try and travel as much as possible. Now it is mostly for work but I still get excited before any trip that involves a plane. The amount of knowledge and experience on this board is truly overwhelming and a huge resource. I think the Trip Report threads have been my favorites. The details, the pictures and the quality of writing almost make it feel like I was on board. Anyway, I am glad I found FlyerTalk and hope to have the opportunity to run into some of you. |
Hello!!....I just joined this forum yesterday through the referral of my friend who also likes to travel. I am fabulous, love to fly/travel and am of course a girl... just like my username implies. :p
I live in and am originally from Southern CA. I have traveled most of the world and continue traveling regularly. I have degrees in the aviation industry though I currently do nothing with them (but not for too much longer!). I look forward to discussing topics with all of you and contributing my knowledge, experience, and stories. |
Hi I just joined today at the urging of my brother (another FT member). Already I spent a somewhat obscene amount of time this afternoon reading some very amusing and informative posts!
A little bit about me- fly out of the most crowded airspace in the nation (or is it the world?)- yay! Just started traveling for business in this job which is another reason my brother told me I need to get in the FT know.... :) Look forward to conversing more with all of you, getting (and hopefully one day contributing) flying tips, and being thoroughly entertained (which I can tell from just reading the posts today, is a definite)! |
LD75 welcome to FlyerTalk. This place will cost you alot of time:D but you will also meet the greatest people on the planet.

hello all
Hi everyone.
Just started travelling for work a bit. Trying to keep it to just a couple of FF plans rather than scattering miles around.. Live in London, work for a big media company. Mainly travelling in Europe. Spent a good hour or so reading some of the tips on here. Bye now. I'll be posting again soon :) Georgie |
Hi, I'm Chris. I'm from New Hampshire, but currently living in Jacksonville, FL. Although I am presently a neophyte in the world of air travel (FWIW I've done it pretty often IMO, I am only now realizing that my "pretty often" actually equates to "might as well be never" when compared to the people on this board), I am finding this site to be an invaluable source of traveling information (e.g., when using the restroom in EWR someone in the urinal next to me may be getting a free show of my bare backside! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=784699)
When I first attempted to read some of the threads on this site I'll admit, I was taken aback and I literally caught myself making a face as though I had just pushed open a bathroom stall door and the toilet was clogged, yet the three people who went #2 before me didn't seem to care...but I am diligently working to expand my vocabulary (specifically abbreviations) in an effort to become one with the formerly esoteric jargon that is strewn about this website as though it were fresh, warm maple syrup on a fresh-from-the-toaster peanut butter ricecake. Regardless, I think I deserve some bonus points for using three out of the previous six Words of the Day from dictionary.com! On a side note...anyone know what FT or PC is? edit: ouch...I guess asking about FT is like living in the United States and asking what "US" stands for...chalk that one up to callow-ness! (and go ahead and make that tally four of the last six) |
welcome to FlyerTalk, georgielondon & Iflew1stClassOnce
we're looking forward to your contributions to our community. if you need any assistance, don't hesitate to contact a forum moderator :) |
Hi!
I just found this site a few weeks ago and after lots of lurking, decided to sign up. Through C&P'ing some of the more interesting posts, I also got my brother (Iflew1stClassOnce) to sign up, too! (By the way, PC = President's Club.) I'm currently in a small Texas town and, through virtue of my relative proximity to IAH, am learning the wonders of obtaining Elite FF status. Thanks for all the advice and laughs so far and I'm looking forward to more! |
Welcome to FT, AngelMcD! It's great to have you onboard! BTW, congratulations on your recent attainment of CO Silver! Enjoy those upgrades! That reminds me of the last time I was bumped up to FC (first class) because of my eliteAccess ticket!!
Oh and FYI, if you ever find yourself flying through JAX drop me a line! I'll treat you to a ricecake! |
Been on this forum for a while but didn't thot of posting a note here till now... So here it goes...
SIN is where home is and will always be… But I’m currently a student in the states and yes, at 34 I’m still a student… And because of that, I do most of my flying for leisure only… Usually with Star Alliance airlines… Coming from the east to live in the west is a great opportunity to experience and immerse one in a totally different culture… And there is no better way to do that than to travel and see things with your very own eyes… Diversity is one word that drives and challenges me to explore various things… On the one hand, I’ve attended a Nascar race with men dressed in sleeve-less shirt and baseball cap… And on the other, I’ve attended musicals with men dressed in their Sunday best and fedora… On the one hand, I’ve been to football games and enjoyed the passion of feisty young men…. And on the other, I’ve been to bars and enjoyed the mellowness of matured gentlemen… On the one hand, I’ve indulged myself with a feast for my eyes on a nude beach… And on the other, I’ve pampered myself with a feast for my mind (and tummy) in the Amish country… On the one hand, I’ve made a trip to Disney World to see the cutest behavior of same sex couples… And on the other, I’ve made a trip to Folsom to witness the wildest behavior of men and women… Diversity remains the drive for me to travel and explore various things… And in the same notion, it is the diversity of opinion on here that engages me to read the various posts on here… This is also a great training ground for me to up my tolerance level for diversity... Coz, sky is literally the limit... |
