Gotta keep this bumped.

Barring unforeseen circumstances, I'm spending 2 nights near EWR staying with my daughter before we leave JFK for VCE on 8/14. She is flying me out FC on a Delta award. Thanks honey!

Upon return to JFK, we are spending 2 nights at the Marriott Marquis (thanks again honey)and seeing Chicago. Finally I get to see the Statute of Liberty.

Two of us are going flying out August 28 and returning on September 2. We're not sure what we're doing yet. But I have a reservation at the Westin Europa and Regina using points - it's a lot of points, but it's a back-up option. My friend wants to go to Albania - has anyone been there?

diana Jun 22, 2003 12:19 am

FCTSTY-yes, I agree that my priceline win may not be that great, but for TWO people, it sure is. And I cannot stand Lido, so I am happy to be on the north side of Venice with my P/L win. Besides, somebody had to break the ice, test the waters, whatever!!!

The rest of my time will be spent at the Bauer, which has some incredible deals.

cecelia, where are you staying?

BTW, if anyone wants to share a water taxi for that dreadful early flight to AMS on the morning of the 25th, let's talk!

cecelia Jun 23, 2003 1:55 pm

Hi Diana: Were staying at http://www.rechsteiner.it It's outside of Treviso, ~45 minute drive to VCE so should work for early morning flight.

We haven't stayed here before so I can't recommend it yet. However, the email correspondence with Rechsteiners has been very satisfactory. It looks like a very nice place to stay and tour from and we hope to enjoy their cooking and wine production.

corrected location and drive time to airport

Cecelia --- be careful --- you are not staying in Trentino -- but in the Province of Treviso (near Ponte di Piave).

I would feel that the trip is a little more than 30 minutes by car to the airport. Just to be on the safe side allow a little more time.

Have a great trip --- I'll be over too!!!!

cecelia Jun 26, 2003 6:50 am

Thanks for the warning, Jefro. It wouldn't be the first time I headed for the wrong town in Italy. Although I have Treviso circled on the map hanging next to me I was too lazy to read it before posting.

We don't like the idea of getting up so early on the last day but hopefully traffic will be light.

What are your dates and plans?

jefro Jun 27, 2003 10:40 am

---JFK August 28th
---VCE September 2nd ---mid day flight back.

1st days in Venice at the Palazzo Sant Angelo and then by train down to Bologna at the Sofitel.

You should love the countryside --- try to get to Asolo and the area.

Originally I was going to rent a car but decided to rely on the train and changed my plans to go to Bologna --- on the day of departure will hop on the train back to Mestre and the airport connector bus.

There are alot of "yanks" in the Treviso area because of the US Air Force bases.

Have a good trip!!!!

We already have 4 - but I believe you can have up to 6.

For what it is worth, I stopped by the local Al Italia CTO to bick up some brochures. They run a tour agency called ItaliaTours. Their website is out of commission right now, but they are quoting some pretty incredible car rental prices. The cars are all rented through the local Avis dealer, and you can mix and match your pickup/drop-offs between the airport and the downtown (Mestre) location. A VW Passat is going for US$65/day and a BMW 320 goes for US$107/day. If you aren't flying Al Italia there is a $50 surcharge. But that price includes all the required taxes, Insurances and airport surcharges. So instead of EU$357 for a rental, the price dropped to about US$250. Not a bad discount.

Try www.italiatourusa.com or 800.845.3365 for more info.

Seth.
