Philly in June
The last time we had a formal Philly weekend, it was March, and it was cold and rainy.
I'd like to schedule a repeat, and looking at the FT events thread, it looks like June would be best. Anyone interested in a repeat? Which weekend works best for you: I'd like to do cheesesteaks on Saturday night again, maybe try some different places (like the place that jwhite4 has been suggesting for months http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif ) Other than that, I am pretty open to suggestions, and of course lots of flexible time for activities on your own (the Zoo is a lot of fun when it's warm out!) So, who's in???? |
Was just talking about summer in Philly last night.
What weekend do the Phillies play? Make sure it is one of those weekends and I can guarantee at least two attendees.... |
May 30 - vs Expos 7:05pm
May 31 - vs Expos 7:05pm (Nickelodeon Night For all children 14 years and under) June 1 - vs Expos 1:35pm (Free Jim Thome replica batting practice T-shirt for all children 14 years and under) June 6 - vs A's 7:05pm (Hatfield Phillies Franks Dollar Dog Day) June 7 - vs A's 1:20pm (Some promotion, details TBA) June 8 - vs A's 1:35pm (Free men's T-shirt for all men 15 years and older) June 19 - vs Red Sox 7:05pm (Free 1980 World Champion Bobbing Head Doll to all fans.) June 20 - vs Red Sox 1:05pm (Phillies Alumni Batting Challenge featuring six Alumni from the 1980s) June 21 - vs Red Sox 1:35pm (All fans receive a 1980 World Champion bobbing head doll, A video tribute to some of the great memories and Alumni of the 1980s will be shown pre-game.) If people are interested, I'd be happy to secure some tickets. |
I can't do 14 or 21 June, but the previous two weekends might be available. As mentioned in another thread, I'd love to hit a Phillies game.
Email's in profile, in case I don't check on this thread often enough. WA **Arizona Diamondbacks 2003 World Champions** Hey, it's spring training, we all got to dream. |
I regret not attending the last PhillyDoo™ and very much would like to attend this one. June is still too far out for me to commit but I plan on attending!

Mark count me in, I am open most weekends in june
|
It would be great to get together again. I had already planned to go to the Phillies game on May 31.That weekend works for me and so does the following one. If you decide to pick the other dates later in June, is anyone interested in taking a side trip to the New Jersey shore. The water is cold, but if we get good weather the beach is warm and much less crowded than during July and August.
|
Count me in markbach, but not on Jim Thome Night--that would be too painful!!
|
Just don't make it the last weekend in June. I'm heading to a wedding in STT. I'd love to grab some cheesesteaks and watch the Phils.
Set the date, and I'll try my best to be there. |
Count me and graymaxxi in. Graymaxxi is going to what dates are better or worse for us.
I agree we should try someplace different. The cheesesteak place I suggested for our get together I don't think will work for June. It's VERY small (seating capacity of maybe 20), and no place outside to sit down or even stand (it's in a storefront in the middle of a block). I think we need to decide if it's going to be a sitdown or standup dinner. I really didn't like the steaks at Pat's, even they might be Phila's signature food, I think we should be able to do better. One advantage is does have though is that it's quick, everyone pays for their own meal (no splitting of check at the end), plus a June night might actually be a nice time to be outside (assuming we don't have out annual rain that day!). June is a nice, sunny month to visit Philadelphia. Last time the weather was horrible. The only days or nights we cannot make it is:
June 1- Picking up mom from airport. June 8- Seeing a play at Bucks County Playhouse and dinner with mom. June 15- Father's Day. It looks like the very best weekend for us would be June 21 and 22, but we would try to work around any weekend that seems good for the group. Good luck with all the plans, it is very difficult to get all to agree. Lynne and Jeff |
Any weekend except June 13/14v good for me. On June 13/14 we are burning our last Marriott X14's at Inner Harbor in BWI.
PS if anyone wants to do the Jersey Shore thing, RI Somers Point is showing award availability June 6 and 8th. Sold out of even revenue rooms on the 7th though. PS - cheesesteaks - 2 words - "Tony Luke's" http://www.philly.com/mld/philly/ent...ng/3831957.htm |
No can do 30May - 1Jun.
|
I like Tony Luke's for grinders and hoagies. Last time, we had the Pat's/Geno's challenge. Just wondering what we could challenge this time.

Mark,
I am traveling the 1st week of June but after that, I would love to revisit Philly and hopefully go to a game. |
I am slated to work in BWI through July, so let me know which weekend is decided upon.
|
MB: I'll be in PHL (downingtown) for my nephew high school graduation it looks like 06/18 - 06/22 so that's a good weekend for me!
|
Philly I can do just about anytime in June. Pick a weekend, I'll be there http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
|
I think I can make it to Phila any weekend in Jun
|
Has a date been decided on yet?????

I'm heavily leaning towards the weekend of June 21/22... The Phillies are at home, the weather should be nice, etc.
Anyone have any serious objections to that weekend before I cast it in stone? |
Here's what I was thinking...
Friday night - on your own (meet up later?) Saturday - group tours (shopping, dining, museums) / Phillies Game (1:05pm) / on your own Saturday night - group dinner (cheesesteaks??), then bar hopping? Sunday - brunch? / on your own / day trip to Atlantic City? If anyone has any other suggestions, or would like to help plan an event, please let me know. |
That weekend works for me!

I'll try to fit it in. That following Friday, I'll be leaving for STT.
|
MB: Put me down as a Yes. Thanks.
|
I missed all Phila. events last year, and I do like to visit and have cheesesteaks, as long as I don't have to live there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
A Phillies/Red Sox game is an interesting idea, since, by process of elimination, I would have to root for the home team! |
Hi Folks,
All is fine with us, and we both hope all you guys have Happy Holidays. I may sound a bit empty in the head, but please tell me exactly what weekend we are doing all our fun stuff? Please (someone) get back to me. Just got back from Las Vegas. Stayed a few nights with my family from Bakersfield ,Ca. We spent the entire time sick. Jeff had to wait in a hospital waiting room for 8 hours before a doctor could see him. we were in the doctors care for five minutes. The bad news is he developed a hernia in Las Vegas and had to have it checked out. They gave him stool sofners and a small amount of mild pain pills and told him to see his doctor when he gets home. I caught a very, very, bad stomach virus the day after our hospital fun and could not get out of bed for two days. It was pure hell for both of us!!!! Waiting for a reply to the dates of the Philly weekend. Love to all, Lynne and Jeff |

Is this still on?
|
Yes, it's still on.
I've been swamped at work lately, but I'll try to dig up some hotel deals this weekend. |
Thats the exact reason I ask - I received a $10 off Priceline reservation via email which expires tomorrow and want to know if I should use it.
Thanks. Just booked Sheraton University City - $37 for Sat nite. [This message has been edited by ljp99 (edited 05-01-2003).] |
I think a Sunday brunch would be nice for everyone to say our last goodbyes. It would also be nice to have a "sit down" meal with the gang. What do you guys think about that? Waiting to hear you replies... Lynne and Jeff
|
a Sunday brunch sounds good to me...
I'll try and compile a list of good hotel rates and some things to do this weekend... |
Is there a tentative list of attendees yet???
