The 2003 Chicago do.... are you in or out?

After last years "mega" FT do, with over 90 people attending I think it's only logical we start thinking about a 2003 version.

Over beer and pizza last night some of the regulars thought between mid august, beginning of september might be a good idea, not too hot, not too cold...

Before we start thinking of venues, let's think dates http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Weekend of the august 23/24 or september 6/7 are the first that come to mind...

For those that missed last years do, here are the pictures:

The "glam" dinner thread was here

And for anyone interested in the thread that started it all, here it is...(caution: it's 19 pages!)

Also, here's the link to markbach's site he so graciously created for us. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Since SEADOO 5 is Sept 12 - how about the Aug weekend - we need at least two weeks to recover from each other http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

KathyWdrf Mar 8, 2003 12:17 am

Thread title asks "in or out?"

Chicago FT reputation suggests "in AND out!"

One problem. The Cubs are not in town on either of those weekends.

There is a homestand the weekend before, however (August 15-16-17), against a non-high-profile opponent (the Dodgers).

That's about the time of year tickets become easy to get, too, because a lot of people skip town for vacation, and by then the Cubbies should be about 35 games back.

I could possibly be persuaded to come to Chicago...

... but it might take some arm twisting.

Remember to keep the tequila supply away from any carpeted floors.

I think I can probably stumble the ten blocks from my office to the Hyatt, and reprise my important roles from last year's efforts:

"That sounds like a good idea, Comicwoman/Anna." and

"Now who are you again??" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Anna, how did you let Scott rope you into another planning effort???

Catman Mar 9, 2003 10:10 pm

I'm not in or out.

I"m still stuck at security with the TSA waiting for clearance! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I vote for 9/6-7--Sox are in town hosting the Indians.

Ocn Vw 1K Mar 10, 2003 9:08 am

Is the last weekend in May out of the question???? If not, we'll be there -- already have tix and hotel for another mtg. Haven't checked the B-ball sked, though.

Punki Mar 10, 2003 11:22 am

Average Chicago August high temperature = 83 degrees F. Record August high = 101 degrees F, 1988.

DisgruntledGoat Mar 10, 2003 11:38 am

I'm game for whatever, providing the restraining orders from Missy don't show up.

TrojanHorse Mar 10, 2003 11:40 am

I'll vote for the weekend the Dodgers are in town

zoegksf Mar 10, 2003 12:17 pm

I've been "out" but have always wondered what it's like to be "in" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Spiff Mar 10, 2003 1:25 pm

So far, any of the proposed weekends except the last weekend of May work for me.

Huh? Nick, ya gotta lay off the hard drugs buddy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I'd prefer at least a couple weeks buffer between ORD Do and SEA Do so I'd have to vote for Aug 15-17 or 22-24

Can we go to that place with the 8000 varieties of Long Island Iced Teas again?

iluv2fly Mar 10, 2003 5:46 pm

I have an "innie" if anyone cares.

AnnaS Mar 10, 2003 7:16 pm

FYI... the weekend of Aug. 16-17 is the 45th Annual Chicago Air & Water show which many folks might be interested in but I'm not sure how it will affect hotel availability.

I gotta remember to split town that weekend.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I am with Punki - how about October??

bseller Mar 11, 2003 5:03 am

Since several postings have referred to a date on which the Cubs/Sox are in town, I thought I'd offer up at least 3 of my 4 Cubs season tix to FT'ers who might want to join me at a game...

The tix are 18 rows off the field at first base, and are really spectacular from a "viewing" standpoint...

Guess we'll just have to see how date decisions get made and then I'll follow up with as many of you as I can..
Best wishes, Dave

airoli Mar 11, 2003 5:22 am

I'm definitely interested in "doing" Chicago again this year. Datewise, it's the later the better for me, but I guess I could arrange most weekends. Knowing the dates ASAP would help though...

truly yours. airOli.

If the Dodgers-Cubs Weekend is selected in mid August; I'd love to take you up on your offer

Seriously, I'm in, but I'm w/Punki re the heat index. Couldn't we find a more salubrious time of year to DO Chicago?

Prefer September, but count me in for either http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

DisgruntledGoat Mar 11, 2003 2:39 pm

I've got the preliminary numbers for possibly holding the dinner at the Chicago Yacht Club's Belmont Station (it's one we can easily trash more) if that's an option for some. Belmont's more north, but we can have the barge to ourselves and we can party like fiends.

DisgruntledGoat Mar 13, 2003 6:57 am

Belmont is out until after Sept 15ish (after the offshore racing season is over). So the Monroe (coat and tie required) Street station is going to be an option if it's liked.

This comes just in time for my yearly fix of "dynasty-era" carpeting http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif (aka as Hyatt).

Don't care much about the dates, I'm in!
