SIN Do's in Feb and Mar

With UAL offering Double Miles and some SIN fares requiring only a Saturday night stay, I'm sure there are a number of MRs drooling over the prospects.

Are there any Do's going on yet in Feb or Mar?

seanthepilot Jan 7, 2003 1:59 pm

My return from SIN (over in Jan) is on Feb 12th.

I'd love to meet up in the days before that? I've made no plans as of yet... Was expecting to arrive back in SIN at last minute for my flight. But, best plans are made to change!

I fly
SIN-HKG on Feb 12th
HKG-NRT-HNL-LAX on the 13th
LAX-SEA on the 14th... then to Europe on the 15th...

IIRC the UA fare with the Saturday stay only must be ticketed tonight. Anyhow I'm contemplating a trip to Singapore for the following dates March 6-10 ex-SFO.

SIN run,

I am planning on being in SIN on March 15 at 23:55PM on UA 897 and out on March 17 at 7:30AM on UA 882. My late arrival means I will likely miss you guys on this one.

What are the recommended hotels.

The Conrad. Check out the Hilton forum for more than a few rave reviews. (I think there are a coupla threads in this forum as well with thoughts about the Conrad from other MRers.)

Tentatively scheduled inbound ORD-SIN on UA 881 March 15, leaving on UA 882 March 18...
If things hang together (like a work schedule!)...I'd love to meet up with others on the same run.
Best wishes.

I'll be in SIN March 11-14 (15th if SIN-NRT clears on NW for that date.)

It looks like I'll be in SIN from Friday night, March 7 through Monday morning, March 10. I would love to meet up with anyone who's going to be there or who already lives there. I'll buy! Don't know where I'm staying yet.

I'll be there for the same period. I get to SIN Friday at midnight. Probably do a combination of Conrad and Sheraton stays.

Pacha Jan 13, 2003 5:47 pm

I'll probably be in SIN from 2/15 through 2/21

PremEx2000 Jan 14, 2003 8:43 am

Did I say I was going to be in Singapore March 7-10? I'm actually going to be there February 7-10. Sorry about that. But if anybody is in Singapore during that time, or if anybody who lives there will be in town, I'm happy to treat you to dinner, preferably at Jumbo at the UMDC or something like that.

Check out www.Biddingfortravel.com for hotel. I got Einar the Marriott on Orchard for about $50 on Priceline. Been to the nice Conrad but the prices are way higher than last year. He was happy with the Marriott.

Plato90s Jan 20, 2003 12:56 pm

I have been getting the Swissotel Stamford on http://www.priceline.com for US$62+US$10 tax per night (4*, Marina area). This time I got upgraded to the Plaza. These rooms normally cost $125 to $175 a night.

Hey, I'll be there on the same days!

I'm still debating between the Hilton and the Conrad. Conrad is nicer as a hotel, but the Hilton is much more convenient.

Choices.....

I will be in SIN from 1-8 March, but I'm told INSEAD keeps you pretty busy so the only time I expect to be free is the evening of Saturday 1 March. It would be good to meet up with anyone else who's there then.

DFWTripGuy Jan 27, 2003 1:44 pm

Well, after a fast trip to London and the start of my EXP requalification, I feel the need to SIN. Hope it will work out for Mar 19/20-24.

diana Jan 27, 2003 9:18 pm

The SIN Conrad is not the hotel of FT past.
I checked out this morning, and as a Gold Hilton VIP was not given lounge access. My stay was a comedy of errors, and the manager has promised me better accomodations on a future visit, but the damage was done, and I do not want to even consider the Conrad on any future visit to SIN.

However, the Conrad in Hong Kong was a most pleasant experience.

stimpy Jan 28, 2003 10:25 pm

I'm thinking of going around March 5th for a week or so. But I'll probably hit BKK and SRP too.

Punki Jan 28, 2003 11:21 pm

Hunki and I will be in SIN this weekend. E-mail me if you will be around.

alanw Jan 28, 2003 11:40 pm

I'm there Feb 22-27. All alone.

essxjay Feb 20, 2003 5:24 pm

I arrive at 11:50 p.m. 3/21 in SIN (same flight as koko's) and have an open return. Thinking about taking a coupla of days in TPE before heading home ...

essxjay Feb 20, 2003 5:38 pm

Convenient in terms of what?

I've always found this to be a most absurd argument.

Lissen folks, why not stay at a hotel with top-of-the-line amenities and exceptional service over a propertry with okay rooms close to, uh, "good" shopping? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/confused.gif

Cabs are CHEAP in SIN -- like SD$4-8 to go from the CBD to Orchard Road (which I think is overrated as a shopping mecca).

Unless walking is a huge issue, I say stay at the property that gives you the most service-bang for the buck. So what if you can't stagger to the nearest air-conditioned mall on Orchard Rd.?

Well, I do enjoy walking around. I've walked the equivalent of 3-4 tube stations in London instead of taking the Underground. I like getting the feel of the city on the ground, not in a cab buzzing around.

The attraction of the Conrad is diminished significantly by the fact that they no longer offer Executive Lounge access for HHonor Gold's. No such report from the Hilton.

In addition, the rate I got for the Hilton is ~20 SGD less per night than the Conrad.

All things factored in, I'd be fine at the Hilton, but I'll be happy to meet up at the Conrad for a drink with you and/or kokonutz. In fact, I'm coming in the same night [3/21] on JAL.

unagi1 Feb 20, 2003 9:23 pm

Hmmm...the climate conditions in SIN are a bit different above ground than LHR...3-4 MRT stations walk in SIN wouldnt be for me, I'd be looking for that A/C Comfort Cab.
