Catman has lunch at IAD. 28FEB03

Our dear friend Catman has quite a long layover on his way to Europe on 28 Feb. In Chat the other night we decided to plan lunch for that afternoon, either at IAD or somewhere near the airport. The location has not been decided yet but we're thinking its going to have to be outside security.

I'm thinking around 12:30 or 1 would be good time to start. Anyone else interested or have restaurant ideas?

tazi Jan 24, 2003 2:52 pm

If my car is worthy of the trip, I will most definitely be there.

Edited to add: If you leave the airport, somewhere on the subway line would be nice http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

If I am in town, then fer sure!

gleff Jan 24, 2003 6:15 pm

Meow! I sure hope to make it.

MileageAddict Jan 24, 2003 8:38 pm

My appointment calendar is still wide open for 2/28 so I'd like to join in the lunch. I could pick Mark up at IAD and deliver him to a local restaurant for the lunchtime "DullesDoo".

How long is the layover anyway?

Aside from the various hotels or IAD food court, there are a number of restaurants in Reston/Herndon that are great for group lunches like you're planning.

For Herndon, you want the Elden St. exit off to the right side I believe, this is the first exit off IAD proper that isn't another connector highway or airport parking/service exit.

Unfortunately, it's all franchises for miles around. TGI Friday's, Silver Diner, Bertucci's, etc.

Reston Town Center is a couple more miles up the street. Exit is Reston Parkway(nee' Avenue). Take a left at the exit. The Hyatt-anchored monstrosity off to the left is Reston Town Center, which is populated by more obscure chains or local chains.

HTH,

JD

How about Joe's Crab Shack on Route 7? Leave IAD, north on route 15 to Route 7....takes about 15 mins.

What he said!!!! "The If I'm in town part"

Looking forward to it

As for comments on location:

Like another poster or two said, Either the Reston Town Center is good for the following:

(this is what I can think of right off hand)
Macaroni Grill
Market Street Grill in the Hyatt Reston
Mortons
McCormick and Schmick
Angelo & Maxies
Clyde's
Pizzeria Uno's
Ruby Tuesday's

There is also a Champps American that is not in the Reston Town Center but is easy to access from the toll road.

or The Elden Street Area has a few of the chain restuarants:

TGIF;
Bertucci's;
Charley Chiangs,
American Cafe

I tried to keep this close to the toll road for ease of directions.

Someone mentioned Joes Crab Shack and even though I live close to that its not that convenient for those coming from the beltway area and is about 10 to 12 miles from IAD. But if you do decide to select that part of town, there is also the:

LongHorn steak house,
TGIF,
olive garden,
Logans Roadhouse Rest
Sweetwater Tavern
and a Ruby Tuesday

Edited to add a SWTavern

Joe's Carb Shack rocks! LOVE that place.

(BTW, route 28 to route 7)

There is also a Mongolian Grill in Worldgate? I believe.

I can also easily pick up Catman since I work at Dulles.
IIRC his layover is 5 hours?

RMINIONE Jan 26, 2003 1:24 pm

Would also like to met up with the Catman again, this time down here--- I 'll put this on my calender.

gnaget Jan 26, 2003 2:29 pm

I will be out of town but I recommend a Japanese restaurant (decent sushi) that's in Herndon right off the first exit.

I think this is the place:

Catman Jan 27, 2003 11:46 am

Will leave it to you locals to find a good place NEAR IAD. I'd like to be back by 3:30 ish so I have time to get through security and to the UA terminal.

Keep me posted. THanks

TrojanHorse Jan 27, 2003 12:51 pm

these guidelines would indicate to me that Herndon or Reston would be the closest and easiest access to and from IAD. CM could leave the Restaurant at 3:15 and be dropped off at IAD by 3:25 PM

my 2 cents

Clydes looks good to me so if we get a reservation let's go there.

Here's their menu, a partial list:

http://www.clydes.com/menus/cl-reston.html

and a little info on the place:

http://www.clydes.com/restaurants/cl-reston.html

I think I ate at Old Ebbetts once and it was pretty good.

mymiles2go Jan 27, 2003 11:25 pm

I'll be passing through IAD from about 3:40-5:10PM, I'm up for a FT RCC takeover.

Catman Feb 10, 2003 3:47 pm

Ok friends, bumping this up because I'd like to know...

*Is Clyde's still a go for 2-28?

*Is someone going to meet me at IAD to take me there? (Mileage Addict, I think you offered.)

*Guest List.

Just being the advanced planner, as usual! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

tazi Feb 10, 2003 4:52 pm

I might actually be able to make this but just list me as a maybe for now. I have a friend coming to town the night before so I would have a ride and I'll be taking off work for the afternoon anyway http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

What time would we be meeting at Clyde's?

Catman, count me in; Clyde's Reston Town Center 2/28 Friday works for me; just let me know what time...

Still looks like a go from this end...I'd meet you outside the terminal where folks pick people up.

*Maybe shoot for meeting up at Clydes around 12:30 pm to give us time to meet and "cat"ch up http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

*I can be back by 3:30pm, so I have time to deal with security.

Looks almost definite.

Ok, as long as Stuart gets in from Taipei on Thursday as planned, we will both be there. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

According to the unofficial rules of "What is a DO:"

http://www.flyertalk.com/pasttalk/ft...ML/002054.html

An "even" dozen makes a DO!

Several dozens makes a MEGA DO.

But, note, this little lunch cannot be considered a Catman DO. Catman do's are held in NYC and are organized by the namesake http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Please, gang, pray for sun. NO SNOW! NO DELAYS! I really, really want to go to Europe!

See my FRIENDS in a week!

Mileage Addict... you have mail.

This is going to be a fun lunch! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (Not wanting to take away from those "Monthly Happy Hours" that are happening.)

Did someone go ahead and make reservations at Clydes? Just planning ahead.

mymiles2go... If I can remember I may be wearing a "Flyertalk" Ballcap if you happen to be in a RCC that day. Since there are two sometimes it's tough to meet up.

thezipper Feb 21, 2003 1:18 pm

I will have to humbly bow out... Due to CRAF there have been some unsceduled changes to my flights and itin, I'm flying on friday, vs sat http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif although hope to see you at the Freddies Catdude!

dlnewbie Feb 21, 2003 10:37 pm

I happen to have other other obligations that day (moving residence from one side of Montgomery County to the other) so I too, will have to bow out .. but don't hold that against me ..... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
