Catman has lunch at IAD. 28FEB03
Our dear friend Catman has quite a long layover on his way to Europe on 28 Feb. In Chat the other night we decided to plan lunch for that afternoon, either at IAD or somewhere near the airport. The location has not been decided yet but we're thinking its going to have to be outside security.
I'm thinking around 12:30 or 1 would be good time to start. Anyone else interested or have restaurant ideas? |
If my car is worthy of the trip, I will most definitely be there.
Edited to add: If you leave the airport, somewhere on the subway line would be nice http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif [This message has been edited by tazi (edited 01-24-2003).] |
If I am in town, then fer sure!
|
Meow! I sure hope to make it.

My appointment calendar is still wide open for 2/28 so I'd like to join in the lunch. I could pick Mark up at IAD and deliver him to a local restaurant for the lunchtime "DullesDoo".
How long is the layover anyway? ------------------ Addicted to airline miles? Check out: Mileage Workshop --- "You can't be a real country unless you have a beer and an airline. Aside from the various hotels or IAD food court, there are a number of restaurants in Reston/Herndon that are great for group lunches like you're planning.
For Herndon, you want the Elden St. exit off to the right side I believe, this is the first exit off IAD proper that isn't another connector highway or airport parking/service exit. Unfortunately, it's all franchises for miles around. TGI Friday's, Silver Diner, Bertucci's, etc. Reston Town Center is a couple more miles up the street. Exit is Reston Parkway(nee' Avenue). Take a left at the exit. The Hyatt-anchored monstrosity off to the left is Reston Town Center, which is populated by more obscure chains or local chains. HTH, JD |
How about Joe's Crab Shack on Route 7? Leave IAD, north on route 15 to Route 7....takes about 15 mins.

Originally posted by kokonutz: If I am in town, then fer sure! Looking forward to it As for comments on location: Like another poster or two said, Either the Reston Town Center is good for the following: (this is what I can think of right off hand) Macaroni Grill Market Street Grill in the Hyatt Reston Mortons McCormick and Schmick Angelo & Maxies Clyde's Pizzeria Uno's Ruby Tuesday's There is also a Champps American that is not in the Reston Town Center but is easy to access from the toll road. or The Elden Street Area has a few of the chain restuarants: TGIF; Bertucci's; Charley Chiangs, American Cafe I tried to keep this close to the toll road for ease of directions. Someone mentioned Joes Crab Shack and even though I live close to that its not that convenient for those coming from the beltway area and is about 10 to 12 miles from IAD. But if you do decide to select that part of town, there is also the: LongHorn steak house, TGIF, olive garden, Logans Roadhouse Rest Sweetwater Tavern and a Ruby Tuesday Edited to add a SWTavern [This message has been edited by TrojanHorse (edited 01-26-2003).] |

I can also easily pick up Catman since I work at Dulles. IIRC his layover is 5 hours? |
Would also like to met up with the Catman again, this time down here--- I 'll put this on my calender.

I will be out of town but I recommend a Japanese restaurant (decent sushi) that's in Herndon right off the first exit.
I think this is the place: http://www.washingtonian.com/dining/...hamasushi.html |
Will leave it to you locals to find a good place NEAR IAD. I'd like to be back by 3:30 ish so I have time to get through security and to the UA terminal.
Keep me posted. THanks |
these guidelines would indicate to me that Herndon or Reston would be the closest and easiest access to and from IAD. CM could leave the Restaurant at 3:15 and be dropped off at IAD by 3:25 PM
my 2 cents Originally posted by Catman: Will leave it to you locals to find a good place NEAR IAD. I'd like to be back by 3:30 ish so I have time to get through security and to the UA terminal. Keep me posted. THanks |
Clydes in Reston? At Reston Town Center - right off the Dulles Access Road.
