Regarding the spam, it's basically a technology problem.

The UBB code used for these forums renders profile pages (with our e-mail addresses) as standard HTML pages - easily retrieved via a variety of automated spam engines. Unlike many other sites where I feel free entering a phony e-mail address, I actually want other FT'er to be able to contact me.

Long term, we'd have to hope for a fix from InfoPop which will make it more difficult to harvest e-mail addresses.

From the other side of the gender gap, the enlargement offers I've been spammed with seem, in contrast, to focus on pairs.

To gather a few 1000 FT'er email addresses you need only ask Google:

I haven't been contacted, and now I'm bummed. Are these only targetted contacts, and how do I get on the list? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Ferd, would it be piling on to mention that my 12 year old daughter was interviewed about travel by the WSJ?

Sounds like the last straw to me - maybe it's time for a class-action lawsuit on behalf of all non-contacted FTers.

Hummm, strange that no one ever contacts me for quotes in news stories...

Guess it tough to be taken seriously when you start off a show with... "In other news, the Village Idiot has some ideas that will revolutionize air travel as we know it today. His idea, using a system of slingshots ands catapults to move passengers quickly and..."

Or maybe people can't spell my email address correctly? But really, is excuseme_haveyouseenmyvillageanywherearoundhere@ho tmail.com all that difficult?
Great thing is, I've never gotten any spam...

come to think of it, I never get regular email either, strange.

Idiot...you don't have to be contacted and interviewed to be quoted.

I quote you all the time!

Not a thought but reality for me. I think the trip for 2 on Concorde, back in First and 3 nights at the waldorf=astoria for less than £100 cemented it..... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
