Flight to nowhere - on a private jet?
 

I've had this idea for a while. Perhaps as part of a future FT "do", charting a private jet for a 1 hr. flight to nowhere. My location of first choice - probably LAS. I would be looking for fellow FT'ers also interested.

There would be a substantial cost involved. My preliminary estimates are $300 - $500 per person. Will depend on a number things, such as size of the jet.

Would others be interested?

Maybe I'm missing something obvious, but it isn't clear to me how we would get miles for such a flight, or indeed whether we could get the usual elite benefits. Could you clarify?

I'm just wondering how long it'll be until we occupy an entire F cabin on some airline one day.. that would do for me.

Or for $400 per person, you could do Zurich to St. Moritz in a private jet.

My little brother, who was recently laid off from his pilot job at AA (used to fly for TW), is back at his old job flying charters in the middle of the country. He usually flies the governor, college basketball teams, etc.

I am happy to ask what he can arrange.

I might bite on this one...I would hope for a newer bigger biz jet. I see a lot of old biz jets around.

I should make a clarification: I'm talking about chartering a small (5 - 14 passenger) private jet, not a CRJ or larger aircraft. I'm looking at this as an opportunity to do something very few people ever get to do, at a "reasonable" price.

I would be in also....I still would like a 10-15 seat jet built in the last 10 years or less....I do not think I would go for a 1968 Lear 23/24 six seat......And I want 2 pilots, not a 1 pilot Citation....Let's go!

At the original Hawaii PiP, the group departing from LAX had the entire upper deck of the 747 (more people were downstairs).

I'll be honest. My first thought is to try for a smaller aircraft, hoping that I won't have too much trouble getting at least 4 other folks (and me) on the inaugural flight.

However, if I can do this in conjunction with an FT "do" and we get enough willing (paying) participants, I'd be happy to get a larger aircraft. It would be neat to have "our" cabin attendant serving champagne to us at 30,000 ft, even on a flight to nowhere.

The main issue will be payment. I'd need payment up front in order to secure the aircraft. I also would probably not be able to make refunds in the event someone cancels, since we still need all of the funds to cover the charter cost. Of course, if someone thinks they can come up with a sponsor or another way to cover the costs, I'm all ears.

After I make some calls, send some emails and perhaps make a site inspection, I'll post an update.
