Lucky you Gaucho!! It is lovely there!!

paradocs Nov 21, 2002 10:41 pm

Gaucho, I second what Pointsgirl said. It is just a delightful place.

I do remember seeing someone registered on FT who was from Tallinn. Sorry, but don't remember any more than that.

I believe his FT name is FOKKER50 (not 100% sure that is totally correct)
But there are several people here who spent a considerable amount of time there, so you have a good chance of meeting up with someone.

I can confirm that Fokker50 is from Estonia(TLL).

Gaucho, will you go there often?

I expect to head to Tallin about twice in the next year.

I know the place inside out, so how can I be of assistance? Plus, I should be there in December.

Pointsgirl: VERY good! I hoped someone would come up with the name.

Thanks to all for your replies. I would appreciate some recommendations in terms of the trendy bars/lounges that the local young professionals (20s-30s ranging crowd) hang-out in, Im not so much interested in the tourist places. I dont think I will do much sightseeing either. Also, if you have restaurant recommendations, that would be nice.

How are prices in Tallinn? Is it correct to assume that F&B should cost about half of what it would cost in MUC or VIE?

BTW, Im staying at the Scandic Palace, I hear its well located and one of the better places to stay. I assume this hotel does not itself have any cool places to hang out in, or...? Thanks!!

There is a wonderful Restaurant in Tallinn called Peoleos (SP?) I had two delightful meals there and I highly recommend it.
Someone mentioned that the restaurant changed names, so unfortunately I do not know what it is called now. Perhaps someone will be able to help out?
In any event it should not be to hard to find since it is located right nextThis Building

The trendiest nightclub in Tallinn is Terrarium which has famous DJ's from around the world on the weekends. It is also one of the newest establishments with modern bathrooms where guys can see through a mirror how girls put on their make-up in the ladies' room and the girls can see what guys look like (above the waist) when relieving themselves.

Other popular places are Opium (formerly Flamingo), DeColte and Hollywood followed by Bonnie & Clyde, Panoraam and Zelluloos.

Hotels can be reasonably expensive while food is a lot cheaper than in other European countries. For example, hundreds of Finns take the short jetcat trip (100mins) across the gulf every day to do their grocery shopping in Tallinn. An average price for a good meal in a normal restaurant is $5-$6. In places designed for tourists expect to pay three times more.

It is a very nice hotel with a lovely bar downstairs which used to be frequented by certain underworld businessmen and their ladies. I haven't been to this bar lately but when driving past I have noticed various black prestige vehicles parked outside which is a certain indicator.

I hope this helps. If you need to know more then just let us know.

In general, I found the prices in Tallinn (and even more so in the rest of Estonia) to be very reasonable.

My advice: Go for the pastries!! There are a lot of coffee places and bakeries selling all sorts of sweet delights for next to nothing... and yes, you can have another one! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Very interesting info.

FWIW, my set trip is around late Aug.... a while away... but I may go there once before Aug.

I'll look for this thread when my plans are approaching.
