Boston meeting or event?

I notice many FT regulars list the Boston area as home base. Has there been an FT meeting in the Boston area? If not, would folks be interested in some type of event (happy hour, dinner, something else)?

Of course, anyone visiting the area on that day would also be welcome.

I'd be interested in a Boston event/get together. I live a couple of hours north of Boston but would be willing to help in any way that I can.

kcvt750 Sep 11, 2002 5:20 pm

I'm up in Weymouth pretty regularly & I'd be interested.

I live about 20 min south of Boston.

Jailer Sep 11, 2002 6:41 pm

I'm in Boston November 2-6, should that be a convenient date for you locals....as if I need another excuse to drink.

kenjih Sep 11, 2002 7:15 pm

I'm in Boston often enough I'd more likely than not can make it, suggest ideas and so on (of course the locals should be able to do a better job http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

cranford Sep 11, 2002 7:29 pm

i am in boston in early november also; would like to meet up..

Efrem Sep 12, 2002 7:46 am

There was a small one, about a year ago if memory serves, initiated when FewMiles was here for a professional conference and posted here to ask if anyone felt like getting together. About eight of us met for a pleasant evening of drinks (mostly margaritas) and dinner in Back Bay near his conference.

Barring surprises between now and then, early November works for me!

jcrb Sep 12, 2002 10:14 am

Early Nov seems a fine time.

mauld Sep 12, 2002 11:38 am

Can't confirm immediately, but looks good for me to schedule a trip up to Boston in early Nov!

techgirl Sep 12, 2002 12:43 pm

Hmmm...I like Boston.

Matthew Vandamm Sep 12, 2002 1:06 pm

I love Boston too! I'll be there

mashav Sep 12, 2002 1:54 pm

Do we have a date yet?

Given Jailer's schedule what about Monday, November 4 or Tuesday, November 5 (Election Day; vote early, vote often)? Someplace in Towne (North End, Downtown, Copley, Kenmore) or Cambridge?

DEK Sep 12, 2002 3:01 pm

Not knocking the above dates at all, but a weekend would be best for me, gotta work during the week! (Or considering what most of you guys do to get together I suppose I could just drive down on a weekday night, party all night and drive back early the next morning in time for work!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

pointsgirl Sep 12, 2002 4:06 pm

With Jailer and Franjelly and it seems Matt and maybe some others coming into town, Maybe we could try to figure out a date in Early November that would be good for everyone.

kcvt750 Sep 13, 2002 7:16 am

I'm keeping an open mind & schedule.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Lived there for eight years, great city. I'd be up for it.

11/1-11/3? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Jailer Sep 13, 2002 8:33 am

No Party Pooper I: should be to my hotel by 6 p.m. on Saturday the 2nd. Right now we (wife/daughter) are scheduled into the conference hotel, the Park Plaza, but may change.

kenjih Sep 13, 2002 9:37 am

My only hesitation about the 11/2 weekend is that there will be a Mr. mjm sighting in SF on the 2nd, I believe - and since he can't come out too often from the land in the Far East..

I'll be busy that weekend, but don't let that stop you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Didn't want to let this topic slide too far down the list!

BTW 11/1-11/3 or 11/9-11/10 are good for me.

pointsgirl Sep 16, 2002 7:03 pm

Are people still interested in November?

RichG Sep 16, 2002 8:02 pm

November notwithstanding, I will be in Boston October 26-30 if anyone wants to get together for a drink or a clam.

cranford Sep 16, 2002 8:26 pm

yes, will be in cambridge first 2 weeks of november..so those dates suggested are fine with me..

I sure am, I am free most of November, so any weekend works for me, although first weekend would work the best, we play the All Blacks on November 9th.

That was a royal we right? You don't mean that you are playing the All Blacks?

Matthew Vandamm Sep 17, 2002 7:23 am

Not me I am afraid, my poor knee wouldn't be able to take it! Plus those Kiwis are meaner than 12 miles in new shoes, so I think would pass!

steve100 Sep 17, 2002 7:42 am

I am up for a Boston gathering.....

Catman Sep 17, 2002 7:47 am

The FIRST FLYERTALK event ever was held in BOSTON in March, 1999.

The guest List:

Catman
PremEx
Baobab and the Gardener (the hosts)
NJ David and Helen
Anna S
Kyklin
MileCrazy
Matt Wald (before he became Kokonutz/A Freak/Whatever name he is this week http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I think there are a few pictures posted somewhere.

It was my first of many FT events. It was a wonderful weekend at a great restaurant, Sunday brunch at this nice downtown hotel, a visit to a "Cat" retrospective at the Museum of Science and making new friends! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Those were the days when Flyertalk was just a small bulletin board and nothing reached DO proportions (until the PIP 1 in Hawaii, NOvember, 1999!)

OMNI for the Boston gang: I'd love to have a reunion in Boston sometime of the ORIGINAL First FT "do" guests. (plus Kyklin's and PremEx's loves http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )

RichG - e-mail me; I'm coming into BOS
on the 29th and would be up for lunch or
supper. I'm changing my profile to include
my e-mail; the return to anonymity didn't
work anyhow.

DEK Sep 18, 2002 2:15 pm

Since it looks as though the majority like the weekend of 11/1-11/3, should we make further plans for those dates? i.e. a meet and greet Friday night (if people arrive then), a dinner on Sat. night and a brunch on Sun,....or dinner/drinks Sat., brunch on Sun.,.....or just dinner/drinks Sat. ????

Places to be decided of course.

Any thoughts?

cranford Sep 22, 2002 5:45 pm

i like the sound of brunch sunday

pointsgirl Sep 22, 2002 7:07 pm

Has anyone decided where they want to go?

ATC Sep 23, 2002 8:03 am

If this reaches critical mass, count me in for an early November meeting.

pointsgirl Sep 23, 2002 7:01 pm

Just checking to see who is still interested.

kenjih Sep 23, 2002 7:13 pm

11/9-11/10 weekend is still ok for me.
and so far 10/12. although some folks wanted a early weekday? seems like most of us prefer the weekend - takers for 11/9-10 speak up

PremEx Sep 23, 2002 7:32 pm

Catman recollects:

Indeed it was! Here's a group picture at that that first meet.
