10 posts, no content, registered today. Someone should get in touch with Randy. [This message has been edited by JonNYC (edited 08-01-2002).] |
Could just be a newbie who is baffled by technology. While it isn't terribly clever, it may not be a deliberate attempt at trolling.

WARNING: Dumb Question
What is trolling and why do it? Just checked and that person is up to 22 posts in a day! |
Airliners.net, thanks again! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif
Funny thing is, my current least-favorite, most prolific, FT-troll inhabits the Starwood Forum with some frequency... I wonder... [This message has been edited by JonNYC (edited 08-01-2002).] |
that's all we need here, are the arm chair CEOs from airliners.net, or airwhiners as we call it :P

I think Matthew might be right - I can't see the point. It's not trolling per say, it's just mildly annoying. In the St Regis thread there is even an amusing double act.
Maybe he/she thinks that making a post is a way to agree with a topic? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif If it’s deliberate it’s quite easy for FT admin to ban the source IP. Anyway... here's to enjoying the soon to arrive week-end http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif [This message has been edited by Canista (edited 08-01-2002).] |

Thanks Shareholder and a few others. A look into this did result in a few unusal items such as identical IP addresses with another member. As a result, both members have been asked to explain this sudden and overenergetic interest in FlyerTalk. So, if you notice a regular around here that seems to be taking a 'vacation' for the next few weeks, you'll know that Gotham City is safe again.

I didn't know what trolling was either, but thanks for the explanation and the reference to the thread which explained it, and gave me, per MatthewClement's post, a resonable explanation for what I felt was wrong with the way certain posters posted.
"Trolls generate an intelligence drain - when a troll wreaks havoc in the group, all discussion will become less intelligent. Self-explanatory. When the things get heated, people concentrate on flaming, and flaming is about mindless ranting and raving. Who cares about logic or intelligence." This goes along with what I have said so often: If you have to lie (or change the subject, or act just plain stupid and offensive) to make your point, you don't have one. Thanks again for explanation. |
