Event calender Reminder

I see lots of new do's http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Just a reminder to the organizers to put them on the event calender

The only upcoming events posted on the calendar are:

June: Washington
July: Toronto (Do in Exile)
August: Seattle (SEA DO)

Yet I've seen a recent flurry of great sounding Do's in Community. I'm getting confused as to what is when; posting to the calendar is a great way of keeping everything straight.

The Events Calendar is "out of the way" and suffers from severe technical problems ... it generally doesn't work for me. YMMV.

I'd just as well see it removed entirely to minimize confusion. It's poorly designed, and, IMHO, a bad idea to begin with. This forum is far more effective.

EPS-

Perhaps you misuderstood - NO ONE is suggesting that threads not be posted in commnunites. But it is nice to have one place to go to be able to have an overview of what events are planned for what weekends. If you ever used it you would notice that there is then a click thru link to the thread in communities for more details

While the calendar may not be perfect, it certainly works and is not all that difficult to find for folks who look for it.

I know it may seem rudimentary to some of you who are extremely talented programmers, but it will do until someday, while one of you geniuses is on the bench, you decide to whip out something truly spectacular as a gift to the community. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I agree. I am planning a mileage run in July and thought how nice it would be to look at a calendar and pick a "do" to attend. Wading through these threads is particularly difficult when posters don't state the dates right in the thread title--a frequent occurrence.

Calendar is a good idea. But in real life plans change, and it doesn't support changes...

jan_az Jun 7, 2002 7:59 pm

I am not talking about putting "dinner in PHX" on the calendar http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. But DO's like

ORD
YYZ
WAS
PDX
LGB
SFO
SEA

belong there, IMO. And once a bunch of people have committed " the plans dont change". The attendees may change- but the dates dont

I too am one who doesn't use the calender, has no desire to use it, its just out of the way. I dont have any problem whatsoever following when and where the do's are just by the threads. It is pretty simple to just read the titles and figure it out

Have you noticed that the ones who have posted on this thread...

Men say they don't like/need the calendar.
Women support it.

I think it's a good idea.

I already put in a submission for Do by the Bay. Gotta wait for Randy et al to approve it.

Do we really need to go to men bashing?

That comment was so out of line.

If you search other threads, you will find that this subject has come up before... and men have supported it.

I like/support the calendar, does this now make me a lesser man? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

SFOJFK, thank you.

wharvey Sigh. If you read my post again, the first line is Have you noticed that the ones who have posted on THIS thread.... I don't feel I have posted something out of line. Up to that point, it is true. A harmless observation. I respect the opinions of these men and women. I am not bashing men (unless they want to be bashed). Please don't pick on me.

Scottie, you are ALL MAN with a big heart (is it made of chocolate?). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

jan_az: I think I understand just fine ... it's a case of good intentions gone awry. It would be nice if it worked, but it doesn't. The "idea" is fine, but the implementation is broken, which is to say, it hardly ever works for me. It fails in different ways depending on the particular WWW access device I happen to have in front of me at the time. I think I was able to view an event description once, and haven't been able to repeat that since.

Contrast this with the forums, which, except for occasional slow response and random "suicide-browser" banner ads, tend to be pretty reliable.
