Lunch or Dinner in SFO 3/23

HollyHP is gonna be in town. Anyone interested in getting together for lunch or dinner?

SFOJFK Mar 4, 2002 10:08 pm

It won't be cheesesteaks, but I think I would be up for it. BTW, Holly would you like another ride around town.

You gonna wear the Yankees cap or do you have a Giants cap for the west coast? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

next time..

mjm Mar 5, 2002 5:13 pm

Will be flying in late 3/21 to see my folks and have a 1:30 flight the next day (3/22) from SFO to LAX. Would be up for a coffee meet or perhaps even a bit of late breakfast if any of you guys are in and free by then.

Mike

ChanelCinq Mar 5, 2002 9:47 pm

Count me in if it is a lunch thing. I am a maybe if it is dinner.

Mike too bad you are not flying out Sat. Weekdays are tough with work but I may be able to swing by the airport for coffee.

if it is coffee and you want to go to Max's (where we had the dhammer breakfast - next to the Ramada which is about 10 min from the airport ) - I could possibly be up for it on Friday. If we go before 11 it;'s easy to get in from what they say.

If not hope to catch you in Chicago!

*bump*

And also I add... our esteemed Rudi lands in SFO on 3/23, so for those who are around for dinner, we might also be able to meet up with Rudi for drinks after. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

ElmhurstNick Mar 10, 2002 12:35 pm

I will be in SF from late 3/22 through noon 3/26. I'm staying at the Hilton downtown via Priceline, and still trying to figure out the schedules of my various friends that I'm out there visiting on Sat/Sun.

I may be free for post-dinner drinks with Rudi on 3/23, albeit likely without a rental car.

techgirl Mar 10, 2002 12:59 pm

And I'll be in SJC from 3/26 (evening) to 3/29 (early am) if anyone is up for dinner then. I know I still owe kluau from when my last trip out got postponed.

I'll likely be passing through San Jose on Thursday evening (3/28) en route home from Monterey. I could be up for something http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I'm going to go ahead and start a new thread for this to not detract from the original....

Any news on this? I'm trying to plan out my time. I get back from ATW on that Friday nite and was wondering if anyone thought about where dinner/lunch would be.

SFO, I need to check my schedule to see if I'm working this weekend. I should know in a couple days.

JonNYC Mar 12, 2002 11:29 pm

Hmmmm, I'll be connecting from an AA flight to a CX flight @SFO the evening of the 23rd-- doesn't look like I'd have much time to sneak out for dinner, although I'd love to. Maybe I'll try and find out where you guys will be in the evening just in case there's any problem with my outbound CX flight.

HollyHP Mar 13, 2002 10:45 pm

I have a rental car and control my own destiny as to what time I end up back in SFO. The only parameter is that I have an 00:50 flight Saturday night/Sunday morning and also told Rudi I'd meet him at the airport Marriott for drinks when he lands at 9:30ish (pm). So I'm up certainly for dinner (I think it would be fun for all of us to do dinner and then drinks with Rudi), but also can do lunch and/or sightseeing (HRC shopping) between the two. Just let me know what time to show up and either give me good directions or plan to meet me at the rental car return. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

As an aside, I am not taking my laptop with me so I will probably only check in occasionally. I leave Sunday morning for LAS and hit SFO on 3/20 at 5ish (p.m.). I'll email Kevin my mobile number, so if y'all don't decide on something before I leave, he will be able to reach me and tell me where and when to hook up with you. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BTW, this is my first ever SFO trip and I know I'm missing something by immediately heading out of town. So an SFOJFK style driving tour of SFO is also welcome. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

LarryU Mar 13, 2002 11:14 pm

Would anyone who plans to be in the SFO vicinity be interested in a late-ish dinner on Saturday night? I'll be arriving from PDX at 8:14PM and will be staying overnight at the Hilton Garden Inn San Mateo.

On Sunday, I'll be flying to TPE at 2:00PM. Just in case anyone finds themselves in UA's international terminal, I'll be hanging out in the F lounge and I am allowed to bring in guests! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

kluau88 Mar 16, 2002 2:37 am

Looks like I'm working Saturday from 9-5. So I guess that means it's gonna be dinner http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Fair enough. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Perhaps my plan should be to take SFOJFK up on his offer for a fast tour in the afternoon. Then we could plan to end our "tour" close to 5 at your place of employment where I could spend my last vacation dollars. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif And we could go to dinner straight from there.

I should be able to grab email during the week (and both you and SFOJFK have my mobile number), so just keep me posted on plans. I probably won't be able to keep up with FT except on airport days. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Looking forward to meeting/seeing those who can make it. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Larry,

Not sure what the plans are yet for dinner (watch this space) but if this is 3/23 you're talking about, please plan to join us at least for drinks if the dinner gets to be too early for you. Rudi lands at 9:52 and I planned to meet up with him for a cocktail and conversation before catching my plane to head back east (my flight OUT of SFO is at 12:50 AM Sunday morning :O ), so not all of us will be turning into pumpkins before you land. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I am arriving on the evening of 3/23 but you're probably correct, odds are that dinner will probably be too early given the fact that I don't land until 8:14PM. But I'm sure they'll feed me well on the (former) sh*ttle flight from PDX. Oh yea, I forgot, the initials U.N.I.T.E.D. actually stands for U Never Intended To Eat, Didya? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Nevertheless, I would love to hook up with you and Rudi and anyone else who cares to join the party.

Larry, I probably won't be able to hook up much before 8 or 9 myself.

HollyHP Mar 18, 2002 10:54 am

Hah! I am in LAS!

LarryU Mar 19, 2002 11:51 am

For those who are attending the "cocktail hour" with Rudi after dinner, I was wondering whether any of the local folk (or anyone equipped with a car) might be able to transport me from my hotel to the Marriott on Saturday night?

After I land at 8:14PM, I'll head over to the HGI San Mateo to check in and then should be ready to meet at any time after that. According to the Hilton web site, the hotel is located about six miles from SFO.

Rudi Mar 19, 2002 2:57 pm

there is a free shuttle serving the SFO airport Marriott and Hyatt (SFO airport one) from/to SFO airport.

Well I definitely cannot make dinner as lisamcgu and I have plans but would like to meet up with all of you for drinks. Our dinner will end around 10:00 PM. Are you guys planning drinks in the city or out by SFO?

LarryU San Mateo is about a 35 minute drive to the city at that time on a Friday night (20 to 25 without traffic). I live in Belmont which is the next town south of San Mateo but will be in the city all day. You may want to rent a car even if it is just for the night. It will be really hard to get around without one and taxis from SF to San Mateo will be pricey. By the way the San Mateo Marriott is really nice (it used to be a dump).

Thanks for the info. On that basis, I just cancelled my reservation at the HGI San Mateo and booked a room at the SFO Westin.

When I made the HGI reservation a couple of months ago, I was just looking for an inexpensive place to get some sleep before my TPE flight the following day.

Whereas the HGI airport shuttle service ends at 11:00PM, the Westin offers 24 hour service and is considerably closer to the Marriott, where the after dinner action appears to be shaping up.

Hey all,

Just stumbled on this thread and I'm in town this weekend, bizarrely enough. But flying to SYD on Sunday eve. I'd definitely like to join you all for dinner and/or drinks.

I wasn't able to make a reservation at a decent time. The person on the phone said wait will probably be 20-30 minutes.

As for after dinner drinks, I don't have any place in mind.

you all are going to have an EXCELLENT time - wish I could join you.

Kluau is turning out to be a wonderful bay area host with excellent taste in restaurants.....

I'll be in Mountain View during the day/early evening on Saturday so I'll miss dinner, but I should be free 9ish or 10ish depending on where we are meeting for beverages and what the CalTrain schedule looks like.

I am also free for Sunday breakfast in the Union Square area, as I'm not meeting a different pair of friends on Sunday until after they get out of church and drive up to Chinatown from Foster City.

The last CalTrain leaves San Francisco for the Peninsula at 11:59 PM. As I mentioned earlier I don't have anywhere in mind for drinks. Unfortunately, I'm not available Sunday morning as I'm working. The others may be available.

Our dinner is downtown, on Sutter Street, at the Hotel Rex - is there a chance we could all meet around there for drinks, after 10 pm (our dinner ending time and Rudi's arrival time)?

I've gotta take HollyHP+1 to SFO to make their flight and meet up with Rudi. I think Holly is taking the redeye and wanted to meet up with Rudi at SFO.

Rudi Mar 22, 2002 5:07 pm

I'll we be there (at the Airport Marriott) after my arrival - as promised.

But if there is another party going on in town, later, (after 1=:30-11PM?) please leave a message at the Marriott (tf 650-692 9100 attention arriving guest Rudi Martel) and I might join in late (my internal watch will then already have 8AM - so I should be ok again http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif - I'll have a rented car for the whole week anyway).

ElmhurstNick Mar 22, 2002 5:12 pm

I'm so confused...

I'm planning on meeting Rudi and HollyHP and whoever else, somewhere near the airport (most likely the Marriott as Rudi's staying there) at about 9pm. Am I completely wrong in this assumption?
