Chicago Do attendees,......a request
Shameless plea to all ORD attendees,
I am making this shameless plea to you as a Starbucks City Mug collector. Not sure when I got hooked on this hobby, but now I am in too deep to quit. I figured this might be a good chance to flesh out my collection so here goes.... If you live in a city other than those listed below that has the Starbucks City Mugs available, could I please ask you to pick one up and bring it with you to the Chicago Do? If you can do so I will not only reimburse you but will buy your first drink at the Hyatt on either Friday night or Saturday night session at the famous bar there. So as to avoid doubling up, if you can bring a mug from your town, can you please either post here the City Mug you will bring or e-mail me privately. Thank you for even reading this far and I hope to be able to buy many many drinks in Chicago. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif City Mugs I already have are: Australia, Sydney, Switzerland, Tokyo, Kobe, Yokohama, Pattaya, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui Hawaii, East Bay, San Francisco, California, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, San Diego, Santa Monica, Los Angeles New York City, New York State, New York City (Taxis), Vancouver, Toronto, Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, Washington, D.C., Atlanta, Miami, Singapore, Manila, Bangkok, Seattle, Pike Place, Washington State, Taipei, Beijing, Shanghai, Japan 2002, Hong Kong, London, United Kingdom, Scotland, Victoria, New Orleans, Calgary, Tel Aviv, Kuala Lumpur, Waikiki, Philadelphia, Austin And again,.....Thank you for checking this post. Mike [This message has been edited by mjm (edited 05-27-2002).] |
I was about to chastise you for not posting this earlier as I would've been happy to pick up a mug for you while on my travels this past weekend but I see you've already got mugs from each city that I visited! That being said, when I continue my RTW I'll know now to grab mugs for you and ship 'em to you. You can pay me back in Pocky. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

No Tampa cups available yet but the stores says they will getting them( soon?)
Promise I will get you one when available. Mike |
Mike: There was an article in the WSJ last week about "fast-coffee" places setting up shop in France.
Starbucks hasn't made it here yet, but I'll send you a mug when it does. Starbucks Coffee Co. has so far ignored France, at least for now, focusing its European expansion instead on the U.K., Germany, Spain and Greece. But it says it plans to open a shop in France soon. "We want to build one cup at a time, one store at a time, according to customer response [and] we hope in the next few years to be in France," says Mark McKeon, president of Starbucks' Europe, Middle East and Africa operations. |
I was going to be happy to comply, but alas I saw you already have SAT! Hope you get lots of mugs.
I collect lapel pins, but my personal rule is I have to purchase them myself in the locale. Maybe I shouldn't be so rigid. . . |
Still no Louisville mugs that I have seen... Will check again.
|
PHX hopefully on the way - if it exists I will pick it up today http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry this wasn't posted earlier. Had I known, I would have picked you up one from the Starbucks in Vienna, right across from the Opera! I see you already have Toronto, so I guess I can't be of much help. See you at the ballgame on Friday.

Brother Mike... I tried to find a mug in beautiful Hoboken, NJ but only found those "starbucks est whatever the date was" boring mugs
I'll check at my hometown Jersey City Starbucks this week and if I find I'll e-mail you. [This message has been edited by Catman (edited 05-27-2002).] |
Cat dude,
You da man. Appreciate the effort. Talk to you soon, Mike |
KLAU88: You have most likely seen those small lapel pins (in bins or on turnstyle displays) in souvenier shops. They cost from $2 - $6 and up. The junkier the better. I started collecting them about 12 years ago because they are inexpensive, easy to find and small to pack. Sometimes I race thru airports on my conquest.
I bought several nice (gold toned wooden) frames at Michael's. They are actually large shadow boxes. Every time I have a new handful of pins I add them to my boxes. I have nearly completed two boxes with about 300 pins. It's a conversation piece and it makes me happy to look at them and recall many fabulous travels. I think one of my most memorable aquisitions was in S. Dakota when I saw a pin that said: "I Climbed Harney's Peak". (Harney's peak is supposedly the tallest point between the Rockies and the Alps.) I wanted that pin! But my rigid rules don't allow a pin in the collection that isn't representative of something I have done. So, my family set out for the trek up Harney's Peak. The summitt was breathtaking and I earned the pin! The whole family joins in to make sure I find just the right pin when we conquer a new place. Makes for fun and a purpose. WOW! More than anyone ever wanted to know I am sure! And BTW: a Flyer Talk pin is proudly displayed in the middle of one of the boxes! Now to add ORD to the collection! Originally posted by kluau88: What kinda lapel pins do you collect? [This message has been edited by paradocs (edited 05-27-2002).] |
For an example of a cup see
Starbucks Chicago Mug Wish I had known earlier, I was in Annapolis this weekend and in the starbuck there 3 times. If you search ebay.com using starbucks city mug there are about 20 different listings. Wow, you people are serious, look at these mug sites bitter and club and Board [This message has been edited by GM99 (edited 05-27-2002).] |
I have passed along your request to a friend of mine who works at Starbucks' HQ here in SEA. We'll see what/if she can do. Whatever she can find I'll privately email you and let you know.
|
GM99,
Its already a bit out of date and its three days old but check out the page I made for my own collection at: http://www.twics.com/~mjm/photos.html I have actually bid on and won a few mugs on eBay. Those prices are crazy though so friends or self-purchase is best. It is a fun if slightly silly hobby, but it is one of the better addictions I figure. That and miles, miles, miles......... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ldsant, Wow! that is terrific. Thank you for even making that effort. I shall keep my fingers crossed. Talk to all of you soon in ORD, Mike |

Mike,
I dashed out at lunchtime today and got you a Starbucks city mug from SCOTLAND. It'll be yours in ORD at the weekend, assuming it survives the journey. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Purchasing this mug led me to breaking a personal boycott; I don't go to Starbucks because: 1. They have needlessly and permanently ruined a number of beautiful buildings in central Edinburgh in order to sell overpriced latte 2. Hating McDonalds is just soooo last year Also, I couldn't help noticing that Scotland is not, in fact, a city. I asked the girl at the counter about this and she said "Edinburgh and Glasgow aren't big enough to have mugs of their own". Presumably the half a dozen outlets in each city is not enough. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/rolleyes.gif Honestly, the things we do to make a fellow FTer happy http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Alastair |

Careful, guys and gals, once you start, you are forever looking for a Starbucks near you wherever you go, asking for City Mugs silly!
When there is none available, you feel that you have failed and email Mike to apologise for mission unaccomplished. They joy of finding a new one is beyond words. You use layers of tissue paper/bubbles to wrap it and carefully hand-carry it as this is the most precious thing you have bought during the trip. Then when get home the first thing you do is UPS the mug(s) to where Mike is, and anxiously await his gracious email, telling you how he has built a shelf to proudly display and add one more of your contribution to his collection. You feel warm all over and remind youself to call your sisters leaving for vacation tomorrow to make sure they stop by Starbucks in Orlando. Hi, I am belle, I do not drink coffee, but I am a Starbucks Citi-Muggaholic for Mike. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Alastair,
Name your tipple sir. Pint of McEwans, pint of mojitos, whatever,....you drink the first round for free! Thank you very much for doing this for me and I shall definitely remember Bannockburn. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif It is kindnesses like this that cause the torch of goodwill on FT to flare up and make the whole place a brighter spot to be. TVM, Mike |
Actually it must be publicly noted that our "Starbucks Citi-Muggaholic" extraordinaire is none other than the Belle of Atlanta. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Belle has helped me unbelievably in my quest for bits of city denoted clay and I am extremely grateful. I think a free round of drinks for this lady (and her patient and understanding husband "hubby")is clearly in order and I would like to make note here of my intention to, in this small way, make a tiny dent in the debt I owe her. Merci Madame Belle http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Mike |
Oh my, what have I done? I am soooooo embarrassed! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif
All I can say is, you are welcome, and the pleasure of MUGGING for you is all mine and now, too, my family's. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif More Mugs to Mike! looking for a place to hide, belle |
Brother Mike... as I was showing brother airoli around Manhattan we made it a point to stop in about a dozen Starbucks looking for some unique NYC style Starbucks mug.
We found one that had New York in small letters with the skyline. DO you have that one? If you don't I can pick it up and try to get it to you in ORD. Maybe USPS http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif It was fun MUG HUNTING! Sadly, No mugs in Jersey City or Hoboken. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif |
Cathommbre,
Do not have that one so............ http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Thanks, Mike |
