Interest in Berlin?

Hi alltogether,

I've been reading this forum for quite a while now and I thought, that maybe some of you might be interested in a meeting in Berlin, Germany?

Based on the interest of you, I would be willing to plan this, including sightseeing tours and the like, if this is wanted.

What's your thoughts?

Michael

I, for one may be in Berlin June 21-23rd (waiting for miles to post to QF ... & waiting & waiting). I think Belle3388 was planning on flying in from AMS that weekend.
I'd love to get together with anyother FT'ers at that time, just let me know http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Berlin is just a 1 hour flight away and I visit quite often. Would like to join in and could help to plan/organise if desired. End of June sounds okay for a small meeting, but probably to short notice for a BIG event to be planned.

Well, we could plan this for a later time and then make it a bigger event. If we can get enough FTers to show up, we could rent a cruise-ship on the famous Wannsee.

Maybe we should aim for August/September?

july/Auguust would be great....

Yes, and why not do the Landwehrkanal/Müggelsee tour with some nice bathing in the Müggelsee? I did that once and really loved it. Too bad you can't do that here in HAM.... Weather in Berlin can be quite nice in July and August.

I was going to go to the Love Parade this year... Maybe for 2003!

Guava May 21, 2002 10:59 am

Tentatively, I will be there for 2 days starting July 1st this year. If this time is convenient for others, maybe we can have a small FT event in Berlin.

I may be able to make a weekend in mid July. I, though, would like to make a vote for budget options.

I'm telling you,as soon as those d**n student loans are paid off, I'm having a HUGE party - just a few more years.

Can't commit on anything yet, but a summer weekend in Berlin could be nice...

I confirmed my flights. should be in Berlin (or jumping around europe) 7/1-8/27

What's the weather like in the summer? Is this considered 'high season'? Somehow Berlin doesn't sound too 'budget' to me, but I've always wanted to go. It'll be great if it wasn't happening during a 'busy' tourist season.

Boy, the last time I was in Berlin I had to go through Check Point Charlie reading the sign "You are now leaving the American Sector of Berlin". I would love to go back there!! BTW, what's the best way to get there from ORD using UA or AA or their respective alliance partners?

katz May 21, 2002 7:12 pm

I'll be there for the Love Parade!

I'd be glad to meet any FTers while there.

Well, let me start with saying that BErlin has become much more lively in the last couple of years.
Your best bet from ORD is flying LH/UA to FRA connecting to LH to TXL.

Danke, Pacha!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Tim2008 May 22, 2002 9:26 am

You can count me in! No more LH flights from BRE to TXL http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif but it´s just a 2,5 hour drive so it will be no problem for me. Every date is welcome!

Tim

OK, that means, somewhere mid-july must be the best compromise, right?

So how about the weekend 20/21 July? That should fit pretty much into anyones schedule.

Berlin is an exciting city, and particularly great in the summer. I spent three days there on business last June. Unfortunately, I can't join you this summer - too booked already, and international airfares are sky high - but if you decide on a future one, post the dates some months in advance. It's well worth a trip from the States, imo.

For those looking for hotels, I was well content both with the treatment at the Hilton and the location. I was able to walk to a number of Berlin's wonderful museums, including my favorite, the one housing the Pergamom Temple. This is one of the world's great treasures, in my opinion, and not to be missed.

Pacha May 27, 2002 10:27 pm

any updates on this?

belle3388 May 28, 2002 12:54 am

Well, I will definitely be in AMS on June 21st, if there are enough folks for a tiny DO in Berlin that weekend, I will just hop on the train and be there... otherwise, will just go to Paris and bug Blair. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Good one, belle! Unfortunately, I will be relaxing on the island of Corsica from June 21 - July 5. You're always welcome to come down and visit me - I'll be hanging out with Patrick F. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
