Count Mr.Boulder and I in if you will take us! Where are you looking at going to? We will be at the Hyatt Scottsdale resort for a nice weekend in the sun!

TransWorldOne Apr 13, 2002 12:25 pm

Looking forward to this dinner. Should be fun to finally meet the man behind such ideas as earning on CSA for SkyTeam elite status, completing the AA Platinum Challenge in one roundtrip, etc. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Western Airlines Apr 17, 2002 9:43 am

Count me in, although I'll have to leave early to go to the airport. You see, I'm departing on my first mileage run that night. It occurred to me yesterday that 4/27 will be a memorable day for me, and I should attend this gathering....my first FT to-do, and the start of my first MR!

Hopefully y'all will choose a restaurant reasonably close to the airport. Of course, it will be one that is in iDine!!

But it's a dry heat.

SanDiego1K Apr 19, 2002 3:11 pm

I'm coming! I'm coming! (wildly waving hands in the air). The Arizona contingent has supported our San Diego parties, and it's my turn to travel east. I'm actually flying WN - which for those who know me, is a true demonstration of how much I want to have dinner with Jan_AZ, Old Gold and Mrs. Old Gold, TransWorldOne and onefreeman. Knowing I'll be roasted if I don't say it - ok, I want to see B747, with his extraordinary encylopedic knowledge of all things aeronautical. And I'm looking forward to making some new FT friends.

This is my FIRST TIME to get on a plane to attend an FT event! Sadly, I could care less about WN mileage. I actually priced out UA from CLD-LAX-PHX, but $220 to fly in for dinner seemed a little steep.

SanDiego1K, I see a UA fare of $92 SAN--PHX in W class on UA, 7 day advance. Or, from SNA to PHX on UA in T, with 7 days advance.

That was a wonderful tip. Unfortunately, there were no available seats on any flight at any time returning from PHX on Sunday. *sigh* I had brief visions of 2,000 miles (for 4 segments)dancing inexpensively into my UA account.

Old Gold Apr 20, 2002 6:47 pm

Last I heard B747 was stranded in Canada due to a "paperwork snafu with the INS at Toronto" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif Does anyone know the status of his travel plans for the week to come?

YVR Cockroach Apr 21, 2002 7:34 am

Please post details of where dinner is (hopefully close to the airport).

I'll be in PHX that evening overnighting on a KL-inspired mileage run.

As of Friday night, he was planning to spend the weekend with his family up there, and come back to Atlanta on Tuesday.

Old Gold Apr 21, 2002 10:43 am

I just submitted a successful Priceline bid of $33 for Saturday night, got the PHX airport Hilton.

Now we don't have to risk our lives on I-10 late at night driving back to Tucson. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

By the way Janet - is "MarritoGold" where you are from a new drink? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

SanDiego1K Apr 21, 2002 5:39 pm

Old Gold, your post encouraged me to try Priceline. I got the Airport Hilton at $31. The cheapest rate available directly with the hotel was $89, so this is a great savings.

snake Apr 21, 2002 7:32 pm

SanDiego1K, you coulda posted another seven hundred and two posts without tellin' Old Gold that he bid TWO dollars TOO much for his Priceline hotel. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

B747-437B Apr 21, 2002 9:21 pm

Indeed, as of now I expect to be back in Atlanta on Tuesday, so I am still confirmed for the Phoenix dinner on Saturday.

Of course, the INS can still play spoiler, but I'm not expecting any more hassles.

(edited to correct day of the week)

"MarritoGold" ... a new drink: It sounds like it might have tequila in it, so LexPax wouldn't like it, but I might.

I hope there's room for another couple of FTers. Lex and I are scheduled into PHX at 5:30 pm on the 27th. Assuming the plane is not too horribly late, we'll pick up a car and go straight to the restaurant.

We'll need something nice to look forward to as we're flying out in steerage. I'll work on a recipe for MarritoGold... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Wow! Glad to see so many FlyerTalkers have signed on to this event, it should be a great time. Thank you jan_az for organizing what will be the largest FlyerTalk event ever in PHX.

Can anyone offer me a ride to/from the airport area? Will be at the Radisson (early PL bid) from around 3:30-4 onward.

Gee, I just found this thread, and I'll be in San Jose that night http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif . Please keep me informed of other gatherings in our fair city here (maybe at a D-Backs game?).

I'd be happy to offer you a ride to and from the Radisson. Too bad it was Radisson that accepted your priceline bid. They are the weakest link amongst Phoenix Airport-area hotels. Don't let them stick you in a second floor room http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif.

Regretfully, due to circumstances beyond my control and the will of the INS, I will be unable to attend the Phoenix event.

BoulderHyattHopper Apr 25, 2002 9:52 am

I can't wait!!! Mr. and I are really looking forward to meeting all of you!!!

jan_az Apr 25, 2002 10:04 am

SuperSlug Apr 27, 2002 10:30 am

Just found out I'm headed to PHX today (nothing like a little advance planning by the folks a the home office...). Unfortunately, I my flight doesn't arrive until about 9 tonight. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/mad.gif

I think I'm going to have to stay over tomorrow (Sunday) night, though, if anyone's still going to be around.

jan_az Apr 27, 2002 10:54 am

SuperSlug-

I'm sure that some of us diehearts will still be there WAY past 9pm. Give me a call on my cellphone when you get in it you want to check and come over and join us. Its about 10 min from the airport.

jan_az Apr 28, 2002 2:18 pm

Well the day started off with a call from missydarlin in Brussels with some other Flyertalkers, apparently the Mojitos caused her to misjudge the time difference http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif but she wished us all well. This promptly reminded me that I better get going and pick up onefreeman and SanDiego1K. We prompty went over to the Hilton, where even on the Priceline rate they gave us upgrades and access to the Executive Lounge ( which was open on the weekend http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) WE promptly adjourned there where we were joined by MrandMrsOldGold. After our complimentary drinks and appetizers it was necessary to head to the restaurant or we would be late. Thanks to my infamous non sense of direction, being late was accomplished(even in my own town - geez - I should be the Goddess of Misdirection http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif ) Arrriving at the restaurant we had Transworld One,Mr and Mrs BoulderHyattHopper, terenz,NickyD,GG and LexPassenger awaiting us. A round of margaritias had everyone in a marvelous mood quickly, though no Marittos were available http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif. We were joined by phone by B747 and markbach . OldGold handed out his famous OldGoldluggageTags to those that had not previously received them. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif After eating and drinking the karoke started and the decision was made to return to Hilton and continue in the bar, where we were joined by the late arriving SuperSlug. AnnaS called to check in and all merrily drank for a few more hours until it seemed appropriate to sleep until this mornings brunch. A great time was had by all, it was a pleasure to see old friends and make new ones http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

SanDiego1K Apr 28, 2002 11:51 pm

I had a great time in PHX this weekend, renewing acquaintances and making new FT friends. We had the perfect pace, moving from dinner at Chueys, to drinks at the Hilton, to brunch this morning - lots of opportunities to visit with the group and to visit with each individually.

Thanks, Jan_AZ, for organizing this. And B747, we missed both you and Freddie, Jr.

It was worth flying WN in order to attend!

It was with great sadness that I began the evening in Canada wishing I was in Arizona with you guys.

It was with a huge smile on my face that I finally hung up the phone after chatting with y'all.

I'm glad to see that everyone had a blast, and I'm sorry I couldn't make it this time! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

BoulderHyattHopper Apr 29, 2002 11:04 am

Mr.Boulder and I had SUCH a great time! What a great weekend... We have our very prized luggage tags, so many thanks to Mr. and Mrs. OldGold, who are very gracious!

We had a great time at the restaurant talking to TransWorldOne, Terrenz, NickyD and SanDiego1K!

We had a great time at the bar talking to Jan_az, Mr. and Mrs. LexPax, and SanDiego1K.

SuperSlug, it was a blast meeting you and wished we could have stayed awake longer to talk to you! Look forward to seeing you again if you pass through DEN.

Thank you, thank you, thank you for letting us join this very elite group of wonderful people!!!

Next Stop...SIN run!
