Actually, we Yanks are the oddballs in pronouncing Z "zee." And can't speak to other countries, but the Irish also pronounce quay "key."

Anyway, I'll be in MEL the first weekend of August (Round 18, Blues-Magpies ticket purchased...)

And those uncultured ozzies also call a Yot a "Yacht" for some stupid reason. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

There was talk of a "Party in Perth" a little while ago... I'd be interested in going during the US winter. (Dec 2002 - Feb 2003)

Me too - in the first half of Jan. 2003, given my 2002 travel plans, probable elite requalification needs and probable schedule constraints.

That's a shame, because it would be interesting to know which pronunciation of H you are talking about, the main one or the Catholic one.

cranford Apr 17, 2002 4:03 pm

ha, Kremmen, you have heard this explanation also? my dad told me it was something the nuns were taught at teachers college, to help the children with their reading..sorta elemental phonics..ive never known whether this explanation was to be believed or not, but ive continually found that it seemed to be true in practice..

Well, I am not sure which one it is. I actually did not know there was a difference. All I know is that whenever I had to spell my last name (begins with an H) my boyfriend had to respell it for them, otherwise they were not spelling it right.
Hmmm...I'll try to write it like it sounds Haaych.

You guys making fun of ozzie accents - have you ever been to New Zealand? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

cranford Apr 23, 2002 2:53 pm

'Haaych' as opposed to aitch is alleged to be the catholic one,
