Here's some ideas for folks to mull over:
* Thirsty Bear (SoMa) or Andalu (Mission) for tapas * Mas Sake (Marina) or Godzilla (Pac Hts) for sushi * Manora Thai (SoMa) or Thai Stick (Pac Hts) for thai I vote for Thirsty Bear b/c it's convenient, affordable, lively and the food isn't awful (OK, the food's not the greatest in this great food city but some dishes are good). I've always had fun there. |
from Zagat's (re Thirsty Bear):
This "bustling" SoMa Spaniard serving "interesting tapas" (fish cheeks, blood sausage) and "beer brewed on the premises" packs in "the few remaining dot-com yuppies jabbering loudly into cell phones" and "frat boys" thirsty for a "happy-hour hangout place after work"; but others can't bear the "sleepwalking waiters" and "noisy", "cavernous" interior. edit: n/m, i found their website: http://www.thirstybear.com/thirsty.second.html. I'll talk it over with kluau88 tonight (you're welcome to come into the Live Chat as well) and we'll decide on something... [This message has been edited by markbach (edited 03-13-2002).] |
Godzila Sushi sounds good, and it looks fairly inexpensive. My only concern is that it looks far away from the bus terminal and cable car lines...

Food served til 10 pm and there's sometimes music also. FOlsom and 7th? 9th? I forget... Manora thai is also good you might want to consider Hayes Valley - near the civic center and opera house - there's a Thai place, couple of italian places owned by the same owner (Delle Stelle andStelline) which are both likely to be VERY crowded and you should make a rez; ra funky chicken and ribs place (Powell's Place) ; a chinese place (Sage) a quieter california cuisine (Blue Muse) a very fancy california cuisine lpace (Absinthe - bring the company expense account) and a belgian french Fries coffee house (Fritjz). there's also an Italian place, BORGO, on fell St near all these places that I have been told is very good but i have never been there. No place in SF is a very expensive cab ride from any other place really... [This message has been edited by squeakr (edited 03-14-2002).] |

just bumping to remind anyone here in the area of our wonderful plan....basil is a great place and the company will be too...

Hi guys ... I haven't been paying attention to FT for a couple of days (I would have offered some alternative suggestions--but there will no doubt be other opportunities). I guess I have no particularly good reason not to join you, especially considering I'll probably be force-fed sushi if I don't. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Now that the hard part of the planning is out of the way (picking a place) ask the cook to throw in a couple more cups of coconut milk into the tom ka gai and add two more to the rez (magic111 & Jerrie)
|
The hard part is actually leaving room for dinner after the various noontime celebrations. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif
