The Chat Game!

  • The object of the game is to collect "signatures" from the "regulars" in the FT Live Chat room.
  • The game will begin at 12am Eastern Daylight Time on September 8, 2001, and conclude at 12:01AM Eastern Daylight Time on October 6, 2001.
  • For the purposes of this game, there will be ten (10) regulars that will offer signatures for the game. Their names are listed below.
  • In order to be eligible for a prize, you must obtain the signature (which will really be a fact about that person) of each of the ten regular members.
  • In order to obtain the "signatures" of the regulars, you must enter the chat room and actively participate in the discussion for a little while. It is up to you to ask each regular for their signature, and up to each regular to provide it when they feel that you have been in the chat for a while.
  • You may (and probably will) have to visit a few times to obtain all the required "signatures."
  • When you have obtained all ten signatures, you must list them in an email, and email them, along with your full name and FT Handle to mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A>. This email must arrive by 12:00 noon Eastern Daylight Time on October 7, 2001..
  • If no one is able to obtain all the required signatures, then all entrants with the most signatures will be entered into the drawing.
  • All entrants with all ten correct entries will be entered into a random drawing for a Genuine, Original, Old Gold Custom Sootkase Tag. For an example, please see http://www.markbach.com/stuff/tag.png . Additional prizes may be added at a later date, if I obtain additional sponsorship.
  • Old Gold has specified that the winner MUST pick up his or her prize at a meeting of the S.T.I.F.F.S. You'll have to ask Old Gold for details http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
  • All registered Flyertalk members as of September 5, 2001 are eligible, with the exception of the ten regulars.
  • Please email mailto:[email protected][email protected]</A> for any questions, comments, or rules clarifications.

markback,

I'm insulted! How on earth do you have the nerve to say that I'm a 'regular' flyertalker?

I'm ir-regular. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

By the way, I'll be happy to send some cool keychains to the 2nd place winner. But I too have a stipulation: the winner has to buy me a steak dinner in NYC. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif (just kidding about dinner).

dhammer53

cigarman Sep 7, 2001 7:12 pm

CO drik coupons from cigarman, to the highest placing poster, over the age 21.

MRKEY Sep 7, 2001 9:52 pm

great game..I'll supply keys to the winners...they will go well with dhammer53 keychains.

chexfan Sep 7, 2001 10:13 pm

I'll throw in a magazine subscription that is available from Milepoint.com to the winner!

gleff Sep 7, 2001 11:00 pm

Spent several hours on chat so far this evening. Perhaps I'll get to pick up my keys in PBI at the end of the month... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

B747-437B Sep 8, 2001 12:02 am

The game is 2 hrs old and I already have 6 answers. This is TOO easy.... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

burkey Sep 8, 2001 6:40 am

...and I'll throw 500 AA miles into the pot, in the form of Kellogg's certs...

Tolarian Wind Sep 8, 2001 7:27 am

It appears I was on the original list to be one of the ten, I was out of town on vacation and unable to reply.

While I am not able to be one of the ten, I am still happy to offer up two 500 mile Alaska certificates to be given to two individuals.

I don't think B747 should count! He duped me into giving him my "signature" http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

markbach Sep 8, 2001 8:27 am

I am going to amend the rules at this point...

Due to everyone's generosity, we have an abundence of prizes. However, in the interest of fairness, anyone who donates a prize is also ineligable to participate.

P.S.: Sorry, Tolarian Wind, I never heard back from you, so I couldn't include you. If this is sucessful, I hope there will be a round 2 sometime, and I'll be happy to include you then.

2 Many Miles Sep 8, 2001 10:53 am

Chexfan --

Don't worry about B747. He doesn't have my stamp yet. How did he "dupe" you into giving him yours? [ If it's a good story, I won't give him mine till you give me the OK. ]

MB --

Changing the rules after the contest started? For shame...

burkey Sep 8, 2001 12:19 pm

My "stamp" is available on eBay to the highest bidder! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Amending, not changing. Do you think it woud be fair if someone who donated a prize won?

svpii Sep 8, 2001 5:18 pm

Cool idea, Mark! I'm back among the world again after a grueling summer - good to see all of you!

Pam

B747-437B Sep 8, 2001 5:49 pm

Due to unpopular demand, I am withdrawing from the contest http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I will throw in a LHR FastTrack pass (valid for Terminal 3 arrivals) as my disqualifying contribution.

dhammer53 Sep 8, 2001 10:49 pm

(((Pam)))) nice to see you again!

markback....'twas a good idea this chat game, but alas poor Yourik (sp), I knew him well. or in plane (get it!) english, maybe the game should be withdrawn too. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Huh? I Declined B747-437B's attempt to bribe me. The game must go on!

kidpachinko Sep 9, 2001 6:24 am

Remember back in the day when I was considered a "regular" (perhaps "overzealous"?) chatter? ...Sigh. Once I find a "normal" job (ie. one that affords time to be online in a timezone that allows for chatting), I hope to regain my "status."

I will visit when I can! (Room's empty now)

Kid!! I remember you! At one point, you and James and I were very frequently the ONLY ones there.. then you had to go and get more job responsibility.. I'm with you - here's to a "real" life!!

Trying to make a decision as to whether or not to enter I went to the "magic eight ball" at the following site

and the answer was
You will have to go and find out for yourself.

Hehehe...i use the 8-ball for all my important decisions....

markbach Sep 11, 2001 8:15 pm

The Chat game is suspended for now, due to today's events. We'll probably conclude this weekend, and extend the deadline a few days. Thanks.

wharvey Sep 29, 2001 9:34 pm

Any update on the conclusion of this game?

It was fun!

That's what I wondered too last night, especially after starting to talk about food which brought us to markbach who's usually doing that... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
Any updates Mark?

I would just start over, but we have 1 completed emtry in, and several with 5 or 6 signatures.

So, instead, let's resume where we left off, starting tonight (9/30/01) at 8:00pm EDT, and ending on Friday morning (10/05/01) at 12:01am EDT. All entries must now be submitted by email to [email protected] by 12:00 noon EDT on Saturday (10/06/01).

All rules are as before, if any needs any help, or has questions, please email me.

markbach Oct 4, 2001 2:15 pm

Reminder, tonight is the last night to get signatures. Get chatting!

techgirl Oct 4, 2001 3:33 pm

Mark...

I'm not playing, but has anyone seen burkey in chat in the last two weeks?

I haven't seen him on in at least two (maybe three) weeks... hopefully someone has his signature already....

i have one completed entry with his signature, and there may be more out there.

Remember that there are quite a few prizes, so even if you have 8 or 9, you may still win....

markbach Oct 4, 2001 9:03 pm

i'm going to extend one more night, as i have it on a good rumor that burkey might show up sometime tomorrow.

Contest now ends on Saturday at 12:01am EDT. Entries due by Sunday at 12:00 noon EDT.

rcs85551 Oct 5, 2001 12:49 am

Thanks... I haven't seen chexfan around for some time now... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

I heard he's trying to raise the value of his "signature" by not giving it away as much.

markbach Oct 7, 2001 10:28 am

Well, that was, er, rather dissapointing.

I received a grand total of 3 entries. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

And the winners are...

wharvey - 10
rcs85551 - 8
ChanelCinq - 8

William wins the Custom Old Gold Sootkase tag - contact Old Gold to arrainge pickup/delivery.

Janell and Ralf You have your choice of the prizes offered above. Please post your choice and then contact the donator directly to claim it.

ChanelCinq Oct 7, 2001 12:17 pm

Thanks markbach for putting this together. Sorry the results were so disappointing. I know several others like myself that had not previously participated in Chat but started to because of your game.

I guess they didn't turn in their answers. Most people were waiting for burkey and chexfan to show up.

I don't need a prize, it was fun participating.

I used Mark's magic 8-ball to determine the fate of my prize...

I second ChanelCinq's move not to claim any prize.

The game was fun, and it sure brought more attention to the chat... and that was good.

I would suggest to repeat the game in a couple of weeks and include the prizes offered then again.

studley Oct 7, 2001 1:39 pm

I'm sorry this didn't turn out well.

I'm in Chat quite a bit, and I didn't play because I didn't want to hog all of the prizes. I'm sure this was the case with several others who frequent Chat.

I wanted to be able to give others, especially people new to Chat, a chance to play and win.

I'll consider playing next time, if you decide to do this again. Thanks for your efforts, Mark.

rcs and cc,

[email protected]

1 cool keychain is waiting for your address.

I'm away till Wednesday, so no rush.

Dan

wharvey Oct 8, 2001 6:34 am

Well, I will make it three for three. Mark, you can keep the tag and use it again in the game.

It was fun to play and I "met" a lot of new people in Chat as a result.

William
