Welcome to the new moderated format!

Hello moderator! Enjoy your new duties moderating! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Goldlust Jul 24, 2001 1:04 pm

So far I have been very pleased with the job performed by essxjay, his moderation has reached the exact right level (i.e. nothing). http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

actually she or Moderator1/2 have been moving some threads.

SkyMiler Jul 24, 2001 1:57 pm

Noticed also pretty vigorous Moderator discussion at:

Actually, Goldlust, I must contradict you on a couple of counts. As chexfan pointed out above, I am indeed a she; and secondly, I have moved about a half-dozen threads to the proper fora. These were threads that were clearly meant to be put elsewhere. I can point you to them if you like.

OTOH, I've let a couple of current Community threads slide because they were at least marginally relevant to the forum and/or they were still active before I was granted moderator duties on Friday, 7/20.

BTW, I also moderate the Hilton forum. I haven't had to do much there as yet.

essxjay --

I'd just like to issue a public "THANK YOU" to you for standing behind your moderator actions instead of hiding behind a cloak of anonymity.

I find it repugnant when people aren't willing to stand up for their actions. You should be saluted for not taking the coward's way.

Goldlust Jul 24, 2001 3:14 pm

Well, I guess I must apologize on three counts:

For not paying close enough attention to moderation done by essxjay
For not knowing that essxjay is a she (really now, don't be unreasonable http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif )
For complementing the efforts of essxjay. Obviously moving threads is unacceptable and can get no approval from me http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Well, maybe too harsh. My nice comments could now be that since I have not noticed the actions of essxjay they can hardly be as absurd (no logic!) as those of M1+M2.
Thanks for your vote of support, 2 Many Miles.

To be perfectly honest, when I first shot my mouth off many months back about my willingness to moderate I really didn't think Randy would take me up on the dare. <g> Oh well - here I am!

I just wish I could be as sure of my decloaked stand as you are, and in defense of my fellow moderators over on The Buzz I can only say that I've been on both sides of the moderator identity debate. It is not an easy decision if you've never moderated before, especially on a board as vocal and knowledge-rich as FT.

Please give M1 and M2 a chance to walk around in their new skin, make a few mistakes and learn from the constructive feedback.

-----

Again, 2MM I'm grateful for your kind words.

Me?!? Unreasonable??? Neeeeverrrrr! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif If only you'd been to the several well-attended FT events I have you'd know the truth.

Of course, if you care to host something in your own hometown with a reasonable amount of advance notice methinks you'd have a helluva FT party on your hands. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Moderator2 Jul 24, 2001 3:43 pm

Considering the number of daily posts on FT, the amount that have been "touched" by the moderators is quite small. Personally, I believe I've only moved one thread (http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum1/HTML/004888.html).

Regardless of who has or hasn't moved things around (and I support M-1 and Ess' efforts without hesitation), we're in a learning phase. There was some (possibly over-eager?) activity the first couple of days of moderation, but a lull has set in. Part of the reason for this is constructive board participant comments, a lack of true published guidelines, and some technical limitations.

Bear with this fallible anonymous human being.

M1 and M2 aren't really hiding behind any cloak of secrecy:

Essxjay as this Forum is one you are apparently moderating for un-necessary personal comments against others, you may care to "moderate yourself" and amend your post above? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

After the tiniest bit of checking you will locate Goldlust's recent and vigorous attempt to do just THAT in Copenhagen for June/July, and all was aired here in the this very Forum with "plenty of advance notice". Your personal comments were uncalled for and wrong. I also recall reading Goldlust has attended several other large FT events this year.

Actually, while Essxjay and I agree on very little, if anything, and there are surely many times when I truly wish that she had been a bit more "temperate," I really do not believe anything untoward was stated or even implied here! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Just perhaps a minor case of "unawareness" and a resulting slip of the tongue! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Hey, who's perfect? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

essxjay Jul 24, 2001 11:56 pm

I stand corrected, SkyMiller. Mea culpa!

Very nicely done! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

"The Flyertalk Travel Board ( http://www.flyertalk.com/travelfr.shtml )has a topic area entitled "Online Travel Booking & Bidding". This would be a good place to post your Orbitz experiences in the future.
Thanks

Doc - yes, the testosterone seems to have drained noticably from the moderator veins a little, now they they are now known to us here!

That thread was not moved not locked, and given it concerns new kid Orbitz is probably OK where it is IMO. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Now if only we had a special forum for the cut and paste news articles (without any original content from the poster) we'd be in grand shape! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

And perhaps we might also assign a "special" forum for all the thinly veiled persistent aspersions/vituperation/badgering some FT'ers routinely engage in as well, eh http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

geo1004 Jul 25, 2001 9:56 am

How could you possibly think I am referring to you?

Oh, yeah... here is why:

Ooops. Forgot the little http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif so you would know I'm only half-serious.

Now, now,... You are not trying to put words in my mouth, are you Geo? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Sorry, did you really think I was specifically referring to you? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Gee, that brings up an interesting point.

What can/could we do if we find a post/poster that we simply don't care for?
