It's no fun of FT

I hardly read FT any longer. I don't have the time nor the energy.

It's the Jerry Springer of bulletin boards lately.

attacks
two-faced
ego seeking
over sensitive

I use to tell people about this board and how EVERYONE I met was unique but great. I can no longer say this.

YAWN...Zzzzzzzzzz......

Sad, but quite true...

TravelWeary and I were having dinner tonight in TPA, lamenting the very same thing. She barely reads FT anymore either...

I enjoy FT. I still do. You need to ignore the bad and focus on the good. All net forums get into some of this bickering...the key to enjoying is to just not pay attention to it.

I wrote in an email yesterday I haven't been visiting nearly as much....and find it far less interesting than times past... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I hereby offer my two cents...

I'm new here and have not been blind to both the good and bad aspects of this Bulletin Board. But, as Richard said, the negative aspects are to be expected.

What I wonder is why anyone would expect that a medium such as this, which invites people from all walks of life and an incredible range of interests, career fields, classes (yes, classes!) and so on, would be any different than the real world in terms of its variety. I have personally encountered my share of positive, generous, supportive and helpful individuals and I have also seen flaming, scathing tear-downs on FlyerTalk. Along with the good, I'm afraid, there will always be bad.

Having said that, I recognize it is sometimes difficult to ignore. But, based on the way the board is organized, it is possible to seek out the specific categories or postings of interest and disregard others.

(Almost done my rant) Human nature dictates that when we see the opportunity to kvetch, correct or call names, some of us do it very well. Others among us do it sparingly. Still others are capable of simply moving on. Could it be those who see little value in the boards have simply seen a lot and are a little more difficult to please or stimulate? Maybe.

It could also be that it's time to move on.

I'm staying. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

The really sad, even tragic, thing is that one person has wreaked such havoc in this heretofore friendly community. Such selfishness is hard to stomach.

Exactly! I couldn't have said it any better. Just like watching TV...if you don't like the channel, flip to another one. There are enough interesting and helpful discussion threads to read that outweigh the useless or uninteresting ones that can be ignored.

"Don't it always seem to go, that you don't know what you got 'till it's gone"

Yesterday I was accused of being a "Whiner" for posting a negative experience about booking a ticket. The community we had - is gone.

As I said over a year ago, these forums should never have remained public and/or free. Membership charges, moderators, privelages after time, etc...we needed something. Now FT is just another internet site.

Pave (party in) paradise, put up a parking lot.

The call for moderators could have hedged against this landslide long ago, IMO.

Hello fellow FT community members,

This is my first post in the 'FT Community' forum and just wanted to take a brief moment to thank you everybody for their sense of responsibilities and spirits to bring this amazing party hosted by a generous and wonderful person, Mr. Peterson. As much as I enjoy mega-mileage earning opportunity posts and many a wondeful fun threads, I have been rather moved by the sense of community that many of FT members so proudly contributed.

As a fairly new member, posting under this community forum with many evangelists has taken a little courage, but I really wanted many of you to know that here is one new member who really appreciated their contributions and efforts to date and who has been deeply impressed by
your generous sense of community. I feel truly privileged and am sure I AM NOT ALONE in my sentiment among new members.

Thank you and may FT Community prosper. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I learned long ago to ignore junk mail. More recently I learned to ignore junk e-mail. And I've learned to ignore junk FlyerTalkers as well, when they crop up.

Leave them alone and they'll usually get bored with themselves and go hassle another site.
