It's no fun of FT
I hardly read FT any longer. I don't have the time nor the energy.
It's the Jerry Springer of bulletin boards lately. attacks two-faced ego seeking over sensitive I use to tell people about this board and how EVERYONE I met was unique but great. I can no longer say this. YAWN...Zzzzzzzzzz...... |
Sad, but quite true...
TravelWeary and I were having dinner tonight in TPA, lamenting the very same thing. She barely reads FT anymore either... |
I enjoy FT. I still do. You need to ignore the bad and focus on the good. All net forums get into some of this bickering...the key to enjoying is to just not pay attention to it.

I wrote in an email yesterday I haven't been visiting nearly as much....and find it far less interesting than times past... http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

I hereby offer my two cents...
I'm new here and have not been blind to both the good and bad aspects of this Bulletin Board. But, as Richard said, the negative aspects are to be expected. What I wonder is why anyone would expect that a medium such as this, which invites people from all walks of life and an incredible range of interests, career fields, classes (yes, classes!) and so on, would be any different than the real world in terms of its variety. I have personally encountered my share of positive, generous, supportive and helpful individuals and I have also seen flaming, scathing tear-downs on FlyerTalk. Along with the good, I'm afraid, there will always be bad. Having said that, I recognize it is sometimes difficult to ignore. But, based on the way the board is organized, it is possible to seek out the specific categories or postings of interest and disregard others. (Almost done my rant) Human nature dictates that when we see the opportunity to kvetch, correct or call names, some of us do it very well. Others among us do it sparingly. Still others are capable of simply moving on. Could it be those who see little value in the boards have simply seen a lot and are a little more difficult to please or stimulate? Maybe. It could also be that it's time to move on. I'm staying. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
The really sad, even tragic, thing is that one person has wreaked such havoc in this heretofore friendly community. Such selfishness is hard to stomach.

Just like watching TV...if you don't like the channel, flip to another one. There are enough interesting and helpful discussion threads to read that outweigh the useless or uninteresting ones that can be ignored. ------------------ Addicted to airline miles? Yesterday I was accused of being a "Whiner" for posting a negative experience about booking a ticket. The community we had - is gone. As I said over a year ago, these forums should never have remained public and/or free. Membership charges, moderators, privelages after time, etc...we needed something. Now FT is just another internet site. Pave (party in) paradise, put up a parking lot. |
The call for moderators could have hedged against this landslide long ago, IMO.

I choose to ignore.
I also choose to stay and play... |

Hello fellow FT community members,
This is my first post in the 'FT Community' forum and just wanted to take a brief moment to thank you everybody for their sense of responsibilities and spirits to bring this amazing party hosted by a generous and wonderful person, Mr. Peterson. As much as I enjoy mega-mileage earning opportunity posts and many a wondeful fun threads, I have been rather moved by the sense of community that many of FT members so proudly contributed. As a fairly new member, posting under this community forum with many evangelists has taken a little courage, but I really wanted many of you to know that here is one new member who really appreciated their contributions and efforts to date and who has been deeply impressed by your generous sense of community. I feel truly privileged and am sure I AM NOT ALONE in my sentiment among new members. Thank you and may FT Community prosper. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif KK [This message has been edited by Kaoru Kanetaka (edited 12-04-2000).] |
I learned long ago to ignore junk mail. More recently I learned to ignore junk e-mail. And I've learned to ignore junk FlyerTalkers as well, when they crop up.
Leave them alone and they'll usually get bored with themselves and go hassle another site. |
I just ignore the junk FlyerTalkers as johna says, but I still love FT.

I think FlyerTalk is one of the most fun additions I have made to my life in the past few years:
Great Fun Times: Chicago with AnnaS, Mauld and Comicwoman, crashing glass ceilings, mystery parties and chasing cows. Seattle with Jamiel, Newself and DTTB, drinking in the club, laughing talking and riding the train. Seattle with my older brother Rudi, and all the rest of my family, at the dinner theater circus. San Francisco at the Top of the Mark, where I first met QuantumLeap, Marie, johna, Karen2, Einer, dgolds http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif. Walking through the streets of SFO with the FT crew and my crazy older brother, dressed up in his yellow stretch pants and flowered hat. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/redface.gif The first annual Seattle party, party, party. Mileage Addict's first dinner party, meeting the incomparable Jackie and her date Shadow, hitting the Redhook Brewery with AusTXHiker, auh20, and Catman, et al., sailing with Mweiss, et al., lunch, meeting TravelWeary and Michael, dinner at Tillicum Village. Way cool. New York with the fab group of PremEx, Catman, Burkey, and AnnaS. Way more fun than I can ever tell--especially the whacky walk back to The Plaza, not to mention The Plaza. Also met the inscrutable RichG. The PIP Express. One of life's greatest moments, which my brother Rudi and his amazingly charming, beautiful wife, Gisela slept through. The PIP. Meeting Randy and crew, and 66 other dear and wonderful FlyerTalkers, including Tropical, Beckles, Nancy, Onefreeman, Raeban, Mr. Limo, Old Gold, Kyklin, Jailer, Craig, and the fabulous Scared of KGB, Fly me too, Brigette, NJDavid, Helen for a weekend that will live in my mind forever. Koko, Matt, Koko, Matt. Koko on the matt, koko on the matt. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif Another party in SFO, followed by a wonderful weekend in Tampa. Dinner at Berns with lots of the above, plus QuietLion, Hunnybear, George1004, Essexjay, et al. Oh yeah, Catman Do II. A party to set even NYC on it's heels. You can check the record for that event, but I'll tell you that two of my favorite off-the-record happenings were taking the PATH with RichG and showing JimB around 5th Avenue on this, his first visit to the Big Apple. Oh, I almost forgot, dinner in Alexandria, Jetsetter and then the FAQ (thank you so much Ric and Brigette in Montreal--Tuly Amazing Experience--SFO, sailing with letiole, Rod and TWIZ, PDX, Dusseldorf, which had so many heros and heroines, including Bernie, Mizu, Belle, Gaucho, Richard and let me hold a place here to come back and add it scores more, please, like Stimpy, Nanook, Trans World One. Actually far more wonderful, cities, experiences, people and times than I can recount. Did I almost forget, Seattle again, meeting Smooth, Nathan Detroit, Larry U, watergirl, and so, so many more. Meeting Jon Toner for dinner in St. Louis. So I take all this fabulous stuff and put it on one side of the scale called Lucky, lucky Punki, she belongs to the Flyer Talk Community. Then I take a few annoying blips and put them on the other side of the scale called Background Noise. I personally have experienced nothing but kindness, wisdom, caring, generosity and friendship from the FlyerTalk folks I have met, including those who have over the years come under the most stringent scutiny. Should I stick with Flyer Talk or should I go?? No Contest!!! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/cool.gif My glass is way more than half full. At the serious risk of not following my own advice...
Wingless had the right to feel the way she felt; on some days there are others. Punki has put the whole thing into perspective... what a great place to end this sad thread! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
