"viande fumée"? C'est quoi, "viande fumée"?

Oh, vous voulez dire "un smoke meat!"

IslandCub, who can sound like an east-end Montrealer if he tries hard

Glad to hear NO STRIKE. Just arrived in New York City, haven't ventured out of the apartment yet. I've got a sunburn from Florida, my third one in all my years of living! Ouch. I'll be on the same flight as Cat, SOMEBODY PLEASE PICK ME UP. Thank you. I think I've gained ten pounds, just hearing about all that food. But what a way to go...

You'll find that all we Canadians ever seem to talk about is weather and food. Oh yes, and our points... But those we use so we can get to better weather and more exotic foods!

Which of the standard five male dress codes is appropriate for the FAQ dinner Saturday night? I need to know what to pack.

What are the standard five male dress codes, you ask? Simple. As opposed to the number of possible combinations and standards females need to deal with, men follow one of the following:

1 - Riduculous (Tux)
2 - Very Formal (Jacket and tie)
3 - Formal (Jacket, no tie, shoes)
4 - Normal (anything covering essential body parts)
5 - Comfortable (Clothes optional)

Please let me know which number the restaurant is expecting....Thanks.

doc: The most important thing to know is that "parking" is stationnement (sp.?)
Therefore, "no parking" = ne pas (or n.p.)stationnement!

flyme2: I have read this before. Although he writes well, and manages to have opinions without being opinionated, I will make up my own mind. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

islandcub: This is why I intend to wear my Yankees cap, or other obvious symbol of New York-dom, the entire weekend. New Yorkers get a cultural free pass in Montreal.

Shareholder: "You'll find that all we Canadians ever seem to talk about is weather and food". And the problem is:??? http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

Hey now, I vote for that "clothing optional" thing. I just ran into a guy today from Santa Cruz, California and we were discussing favorite beaches. Surprise, surprise, when we discovered we both fancied the "public" beach 10.1 miles north of the boardwalk on the Coast Hwy! Small world, eh?

NJD: Most people would prefer #3, but a certain someone who works near the restaurant said she would give up her evening out to watch who arrived at our affair as a #5.

RichG - Thanks very much http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

No details in French on alternate side of street parking rules! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

I actually do recall that much, ie "stationement," from my past Parisian trips with the big (round, red/blue?) signs of what appears to a chain dangling, as if from the back of a tow truck - when they are real serious about NO PARKING! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

You actually need to know the days of the week, times, etc, and TOW AWAY ZONE in French to be sure! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif I do NOT have the confidence in my French abilities even when I can translate the signs and have appropriate foreign coinage/dollars!

I do recall that across from Chateau Champlain you can park at some rather great lengths, during the winter months only. It really surprised me and I was sure my French was wrong! Menus and wine lists are encontered more frrquently! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif

Just spent the evening with johna, who flew in early from SFO and spoiled us with lots and lots of FRESH Dungeness crab packed in ice he brought with him. A delicious and extravagant feast ensued, and johna doesn't even eat shellfish!
What a prince of a guy, but of course, he's a FlyerTalker.

Parking restriction signs use pictograms. A P with a diagonal bar across it means NO PARKING. Times and days are then idicated underneath the pictogram. Parking meters are in effect Mon-Sat and their hours of usage are usually 9-6 except on Thu and Fri when they are 9-9. Outside of these hours, parking is free, excepting cleaning periods which would be indicated.
St. Antoine St. is usually a safe bet for free overnight parking and is adjacent to the Marriott Chateau Champlain/Place to Canada complex.

Don't forget to bring your passport, OR a picture ID along with proof of citizenship. Although it may not seem like it at times, Canada is a foreign country.

Bonne chance in Montreal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Have a great time in one of the most vibrant cities in the world. Go to rue St Denis late night and lift a glass of your preferred wine to absent frequent flyers.
