To out an unscrupulous FTer or not?

I wanted to get some opinions here.

A couple months ago, I gave away several CO Presidents Club passes in Coupon Connection. I asked for a few things in return but said I'd give away regardless of if I got that. And I did.

One person to whom I gave a pass offered to give me something else in return, and since I thought it might come in handy, I gladly accepted. Well, this person never followed up.

After not receiving anything for a few weeks, I e-mailed this person, who assured me that he/she had indeed sent it and then suggested that perhaps it had gotten lost in the mail. That sounded weak to me, but I was willing to give the benefit of the doubt to a FTer. So I suggested I'd give it more time. After still nothing, I e-mailed the person again, and he/she said they would procure a replacement and send to me. Well, after about 3 1/2 weeks, I hadn't heard or received anything, so I sent another e-mail, asking whether I should expect anything. Two weeks, and no reply.

Sure, I was disappointed by this person's actions, especially as he/she continues to be active in some FT forums (with around 100 posts or so total). But I was not to be so petty as to publicly question this person. But now, this person has returned to Coupon Connection, and I wonder if others may end up with unpleasant dealings.

Should I now mention this in Coupon Connection, or take some other course of action?

Again, I'm not out for revenge, but I'd hate to have someone else get burned, like I feel I was.

I know some will disagree with me...but my nature is to post that the item in question was not received.

Maybe had you started this thread on Coupon Connection, which the person involved seems certain to read, you would embarrass him/her into forwarding what you wanted? Subtle.

Talking about it here may not even be seen by the person.

I feel that people who do not follow-up and deliver what they promised in a trade should be noted in the Coupon Connection. There is no place for people like that on these boards, regardless of how many posts he/she may have.

What objection can there be?

X promises to give you something. You have not received it. You don't say that X didn't send it, but it is nothing more than factual to let people know that you have not received it.

Well, motnot, I haven't been around FT as long as the others who have replied and I've never frequented the coupon connection board, but I would agree with those saying you should report the events. It's a matter of etiquette (good choice of words?) not FT-specific etiquette.

Perhaps it might be a good idea to e-mail this person one last time saying that you are going to report this event to give him/her one more chance to respond. It is important to point out simply that you haven't received item X as promised and ask others if they have had any problems dealing with this person. It's not that you are accusing him/her of not sending X, but just that you didn't receive it and now oddly, this person is not being responding to your e-mails. A question of "what's going on?" is definitely in order.

FewMiles.. (sorry for being longwinded)

If we are playing clue the answer would be no since motnot said the poster had about 100 posts.

Okay i agree that with FewMiles that you send an ultimatum email and if no satisfaction then warn the rest of us.

Magic111 - 100 Posts? You are right, but that nutter had about 100 Drinks by the look of "The Buzz" this morning! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

motnot, I can understand your dilemma here. In contrast, I have had no problem exchanging coupons the few times that I have, and am thankful for that. I like to think that this board is very good at policing itself and using discretion when “discussing” issues like this. I think that you have taken the correct approach in trying to deal with this offline, but I do not blame you for wanting to raise the point here to make sure that other people are aware of this person’s doings.
I would make one last attempt at trying to reconcile with this person, and at the same time letting the person know that this issue will be brought to the attention of the community if things are not panned out. Now, this does not mean a public hanging for the person, but it should certainly be obvious enough to make people aware of the caution that goes with dealing with this individual. Think of it as a public service announcement http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif.
I understand that you gave these coupons away under the pretense that nothing was expected in return, but this individual has written to you that they have sent something-twice. This person should be accountable for their actions, or lack thereof in this case.

Agree with dsimon, very well put.

I agree with those above, pone more e-mail and then just state the fact in Coupon connection so that others can be forewarned. Sorry you got burned http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Sorry! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Echo "dsimons" comments above. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

I have given, received, exchanged, whatever with no "real" difficulties thusfar.

The only "problem" has been a minor failure once to notify me of receipt of something I'd sent and also that twice, two FT'er's neglected to answer my Email request(s) regarding what was being offered. Not the most polite way to go! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif

Maybe the Email(s) were never received! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/biggrin.gif

All in all, though, a pretty good record though and I'm grateful! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

After 3 experiences in the coupon connection,I just simply ignore the whole section of threads.

Apparently this forum mirrors general society, much the Mileage God.

Know who you are dealing with, perhaps there won't be disappointment.
