Sign observed on LA freeway:
Those who are not Dodgers become Angels. Enjoy LA. It's better than you imagined. Check out the pre-Broadway plays at the Doolittle and Mark Taper for $10 rush. Two Getty Museums - too much!!! We fly down a lot from SFO for the food and culture (don't tell anyone from N CA - they get crazed). |
Congrats to Hunnybear and best of luck to you both!
I'd help ya move, but, gee... my backs out again. Yah. And, uh, my pickup is in the shop again. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Cheers, 'toad |
Oh, she's one of those *Santa Monica* internet start-up people. (Pasadena prefers its own internet incubator company - Idealabs (eToys, Netzero, Petsmart, etc.))
Congratulations! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Congrats and welcome to LA!
The real question, though, is will you stick with UA now that you'll be in a multi-hub city? |
While I have already told QL and HB in private how happy I am for them, I wanted to say publicly how happy I am for HB that she was able to work it out to get the job she wanted.
By the by, for those of you who don't already know this, HB is even smarter than she is cute -- which is saying quite a lot. I should have suspected as much from the Lion. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
scribbler, If UA treats me anywhere near as well in LA as they did in SEA, I'll be happy to stick. I'm a loyal guy, like CATMAN, and unless I feel betrayed in a big way I'm likely to stay loyal. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

SORRY, a BIT OMNI: OH my dear LION: You know me all so well.
Loyality is important, and if it means changing planes at four different airports to stay on United, I would. Sorry other airline whose name I will not mention. [This message has been edited by Catman (edited 02-16-2000).] |
A big ol' THANK YOU and Hunnybear-hug to everyone for all of the kind words and wishes!
This is such an exciting time for us! Looking forward to the (mostly) sunny weather and the more competitive airfares of a multi-hub airport. Not looking forward to having only 5 minutes to pack. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif |
Congrats HB and Lion. You know you have just to ask for any help in relocating or figuring out LAX. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif Santa Monica is OK. You can take Sepulveda straight down to LAX and avoid the 405.
Hope you'll have us SoCal flyers to the housewarming party! We can liven up any event with tales of travel. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Not Sepulveda http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/eek.gif From Santa Monica you need to take Pacific, to the Marina. Then transit to Lincoln. Much, much faster.
Congrats to HB! |
Looking forward to it, stimpy and Craig6z! http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

QL and Hunnybear: Good luck on the move. I hope you can trade in those webbed feet for some suitable beach attire.

Glad to hear it, QL! My old stomping grounds. I used to live in Brentwood, then Sherman Oaks, then Tarzana, before moving out the east cost outside Washington http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/frown.gif
I was there during the fires, riots, floods, mudslides, and of course earthquakes (1971, 1994). Here is what I like about LA: 1. Shopping for food. Ralphs is good, Gelson's and Whole Foods is better (Whole Foods is same as Fresh Fields) 2. Beach -- Zuma if you don't like crowds, the most awesome beach in SoCal http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif 3. Proximity to Frazier Park/Mount Pinos if you like the mountains -- just 1 1/2 hours north of LA 4. Restaurants -- obviously too numerous to mention. In the San Fernando Valley, try Brent's Deli. In Santa Monica, Falafel Grill is fantastic (try the lamb korma). For very expensive, L'Orangerie. For burgers, nothing better than Fatburger. (Oh, I wish we had Fatburger here outside of Washington DC) 5. Drivers are better than they are on the East Coast, though comparable to Seattle I suppose... 6. Fashion Island and South Coast Plaza are incredible shopping malls (the Nordstrom's in South Coast Plaza is the best and busiest in the US) 7. Occasionally things like the Polo Lounge and other stuff in Beverly Hills are okay Have fun! I'm sure you will! |
Richard, Tarzana was my old stomping ground also! Missed the 71 quake and 94. Love Mort's Deli (Clint Eastwood used to eat there everyday until Mort gave away the secret on Dialing for Dollars!!!).
We lived on the next hill over from the BIG slide in 1978 when the house fell on its face in the street! QL and HB, in southern CA, when it rains, it pours. No wussy Seattle drizzle. Buy during a torrential storm so you can check out flood conditions first hand. Eat at the food bar at Chinois on Main in your new hometown. When do you arrive? Could a welcome party be in the making?? |
NO! NO! More of those darn Seattle people coming down to Washingtonate our pure, pristine California and run up the housing prices!!!
Sound familiar? Obviously, the opportunity must be great or you would not leave one of my favorite states and come here! Congradulations HB and good for you QL. |
