Catman:
Count me in for the 22nd. BTW: May I suggest Tennessee Mountain? Some lucky person could pick up a ton of miles courtesy of DALC http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Tennessee Mountain is in United Mileage Plus Dining also (although I prefer Virgil's).
But as long as you're having barbecue I might show up. (Very long subway ride from Columbus Circle!) |
Count me in for NYC too! I just love fall airfare sales! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif
Can't wait to see Punki & Catman again & looking forward to helping welcome SCLgal & hubby to our humble country as well as meeting any other famous folks! ------------------ Regards, - Anna |
Got my schedule today, and that weekend is clear for me. As the 22nd gets closer, I'll know better what time I'll make it in. Hotel res are already TCO'd.
|
WOW! This is really coming together.
I think by the end of the week I'll ask for suggestions for the restaurant for the 22nd and 23rd, maybe Sunday Brunch on the 24th? So far for the 22nd: Tennessee Mountain is recommended by a few. I've been there, awesome ribs. Stay tuned! |
Well, we got several fun loving Flyertalkers ready for a great time in NYC!
Come on! There's room for more! |
Have you decided on a location yet? I'd consider it since fares are pretty cheap to NYC and my wife needs some miles to top off her Preferred Status.
|
I hate to even mention this, because it may be too "dangerous" but there is a Mexican place uptown on the West Side called La Cochina (85th bet Broadway and Amsterdam). They have a weekend Bruch (Saturday and Sunday til 3:00-4:00pm that for about $10. gives you a decent meal and all the margaritas, etc that you can drink! On second thought it may be WAY too risky and you may want to stay away from this place.
|
Since this is so close I guess I'll stop being anti-social and come meet some of you.. Count me in, for dinner at least.
|
Since FT's seem to like great (both large & excellent) steaks, and since, strangely enough, Catman has never been there, how about the Palm (2nd AV @44th) for dinner? Unless you go to Brooklyn for Peter Luger's, it is probably the best in NYC. Like PL it has waiters with an "attitude", a kind of "churlish charm" and the finest, best prepared beef in the world? They also serve a huge delectable lobster dish for the non-meat-inspired! Just a thought and my 0.02 worth.
|
Doc:
Peter Luger always works for me, but I don't know if everyone wants to go for $50 per person, not including drinks. And the Palm would be even higher. |
Not to mention, Peter Luger's cash only!
|
Posting a thread (probably wedensday) To ask what all your NYC get together party animals want to go to for dinner and WHEN you'll be available.
Sorry to ask you to post twice but this will at least help me figure out how many are coming and we can work together on finding some fun places! http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
Good points. My experience (limited) is that they are both almost $50./head. Seems like thats the magic number at Smith & Wollensky and nearly everywhere else too! If folks want the Palm and to also go a little less expensive, there are a whole lot of good places for pre dinner drinks along Second Av.
The other place that comes to mind is Cite (51st bet 6th-7th)for those who go for the art deco thing. Here, as you know, you get the same kind of deal (decent steaks etc)with ALL the great wine you want included for $50./head. And the kind of bistro version, Cite Grill next store is less expesive than that with the same outstanding wine deal, but I dont know if they poor the same good wines there. By the way, I don't even know if Mayor Juliani's new regulation killed this nice promo?! needless to say, I like wine and that is/was the big attraction here. Just recalled you mentioned Tennessee Mountain, which is also fine. I guess you mean the original SoHo location? I understand they also opened a place on the West side (maybe 45th) but I've never been or even seen the place. So many excellent choices here all over town! What a problem!!! |
Re: Tennessee Mountain. Somehow I assumed Catman was referring to the Times Square location. But I can get to Spring Street very easily. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif
I agree that with all the talk on here about steak, that that ought to be the feature of one of the meals. But an all-cash restaurant would seem to be contrary to basic ff principles. http://talk.flyertalk.com/forum/wink.gif Someone should be able to get the miles for each of the meals! (And both Tenn. Mtn. locations are in UA Mileage Plus dining!) [This message has been edited by RichG (edited 09-29-1999).] |
