went to college in Philly. Bookbinders is a little touristy, and not worth the value. For a great seafood meal, try Striped Bass on 16th and Walnut. Excellent place...

I've got a 10 AM meeting in Cranbury,NJ on the 23rd, and possibly golf in the afternoon. I will to try to make it to Dock St. that evening. Are you still planning for 7 PM? More trip details as I get them finished...

bryan...as a matter of fact it is business, with my account that I'm meeting with in the AM. I'll need to let him 'beat up' on me, though it's not that tough since I've only played 3 rounds so far this year.

One night at the Marriott Hotel, 1201 Market Street at a "Can't beat Friday rate" which was cheaper than almost anything in NYC!

So here I come. I don't care where we go, it's the company I'm more interested in.

Catman- You DO love those FF miles! I think it's about 90 miles each way! JFK-PHL! I guess you'll get your 1000 for the round trip plus bonuses! I used to draw the line from NYC (EWR, LAG, JFK) at Baltimore (splitting the difference between Philadelphia and Washington). I'd take the train to Philadelphia's 30th Street Station, where the hardy just walk and others grab a quick cab (which is not quite like getting a quick cab in Manhattan), except at 30th St. Station. Hope the weather is good and you are not delayed at JFK! Enjoy Philadelphia!

Yes, I do love those miles, even though the flights are on Delta (I could request credit for U-A though!) But the flight's faster than the train, and since I can't fly U-A I really can't get anything out of Amtrak (though it's good ride.)

I'm glad you are coming DGolds and I'm glad Dr. Burkey that you don't mind hosting TWO Flyertalk get togethers. I'm really looking forward to this.

As for restaurant: I don't care, surprise me but NO Sushi and no wild place. I need to be in somewhat reasonable state to go to my friend's husband's birthday Party.

It will be nice to finally meet some of the people on this board. As I live in Center City Philadelphia (please do not call it "downtown" lest you look like a tourist) I hope to be able to partake to at least some extent.

I will, however, be leaving for LAS 19:00 on the 23rd, returning at 09:30 the 27th. Despite being on the night back after a red eye, count me in for dinner on the 27th.

with regard to Friday dinner activities here is my 2 cents as a local. Stay away from the overpriced tourist spots like BOTH Bookbinders. Buddakahn is nice, but too much the glamour "look at me" scene for me.

For sea food, there is a great little place in Queane Village/South Philly called Little Fish.

For "fresh fish" and "no-frills", it's tough to beat this "tiny" New American BYO with "big flavors" in a "scruffy" South Philly storefront; the chef in the open kitchen "talks to you" while whipping up "imaginative" seafood dishes and service is "wonderful" and "friendly."


For Itallian try another hidden gem Tre Scalini in South Philly.

Those looking to enter "mushroom heaven" should try this "true mom-and-pop" Italian BYO with "incredible", "carefully prepared", "made-to-order" classics ("great spaghetti with clam sauce") served by a "sweet" staff; as ratings suggest, there's a "typical South Philly ambiance."

If you must stay in Center City I recomend the best Tapas place on the East Coast (yes including NYC). It is called Pamplona, and is one block from my house. I eat there at least once a week and never tire of the fantastic food, resonable price, and great atmosphere. This may be the absolute best place to go with a large group, as everyone shares the dishes like at a chinese place. Just much better food.

"Trendy, tasty tapas" "fun" for "sharing with friends" are the focus at this "chic" Center City Spanish; even though the "decibel level is ear splitting" ("if you're not deaf by the end of the meal", you're on your way) and servers can be "too cool for their customers", it makes for a "great night out."
