7:00pm: Claypot dinner - claypot is a cooking style using clay earthenware cooking pots. It is a local favourite in the winter. Famous is the lamb/goat/mutton stew as well as rice cooked in the pot with toppings. It is meant to add warmth to the cold winter days. Rice cooked in claypots will absorb the flavour of the topping as well as a crispy crust at the bottom.
For the adventurous snake soup is another winter delicacy.

HKG Jan. 16-17 pre-SIN DO 2019
Having apparently volunteered myself to help organize (and tentseller has expressed willingness to assist with planning), this is a call for a virtual show-of-hands for a HKG meet-up either pre- or post- pre- SIN DO 2019.
My personal preference would be for pre.
(EDIT: we have pretty much settled on the 16th & 17th)
My only previous trip to HKG was with older family members, which was great for spending time with family but also limited the scope/budget/amount of stuff we did, so my interest list includes:
- Lantau Island
- maybe a half-day hike kind of thing
- any good food or drink
- but totally open to other suggestions

If there is a need or want, it gets fulfilled. Macanese dining is another DO in itself. By Do time I might be able to drive y'all over to Macao.
Since we are FTers, how about a 7 minutes helicopter ride to Macao?
My oh my all the possibilities.

I would just plan the HKG mini-DO whenever you want to go. You could do it before or after the official pre or post DO, or at the same time as one of them. I'm sure there are people that won't want to go to Malaysia or Thailand that might be interested in HKG.

Thanks for this!
I am not booked yet (waiting on LifeMiles 100% promo to top up my shortage before booking) but I am planning to arrive in HKG on Jan 16th.
My sole purpose of this is to go to Happy Valley racecourse for the Wednesday night races. Entrance is about $1 USD for the Beer Garden and apparently they sell cheap pitchers of Tsingtao. Of course you can bet on the races too.
Seeing a horse race is a bucket list item for me so I am doing it!
I am also planning at least 1 visit (probably two) to Butao to get my Ramen fix in TST.
