underpressure, RIP
I have just received the sad news that underpressure has passed away after a long illness.
Underpressure, whose real name was James Holmes, was a good friend both on and off of the internet. He had a great sense of humor and I remember that when the other James Holmes became internationally infamous, Jim wrote to me saying that had he posted under his real name, the folks on Omni would accuse him of being the shooter. Jim, with over 35,000 FT posts, was a stalwart of FT and especially the Delta Forum. Those of us who knew him personally, and there were quite a few, will miss him greatly. |
Sad news. Jim & his wife generously hosted FTers in their home on several occasions. I will miss him. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

I'm really sorry to learn this. I've known him by his handle for years. We've lost a member of the family.

Very sad news.
I'll miss him in both good and bad Omni a lot. :( |

Thank you for letting us know. I always enjoyed his posts and respected his opinion. The FT community lost a valuable member and friend.
|
I knew underpressure; and I am stunned and saddened at the news.
In fact, the last time I saw him was with Dovster... |
RIP Jim. :( :-: :(
|
That is so sad. Condolences to his family. RIP.
|
My sincerest condolences to his family. He was a fine man and a spirited member of the FT community.
|
Very sad. Condolences
|
So sad to hear this.
I remember him fondly from OMNI and elsewhere on FT. My condolences to his family.
|
I had noticed a decrease in his posts and wondered what had happened to him. Condolences to the family.
|
May you join another Ft forum, hoping you didn't suffer much and went in peace. Enjoy your resting place, while keeping an eye on us.
|
May he RIP. And may the family and friends for whom he cared deeply find solace in the love and appreciation he had for them in life.
He never much agreed with me on matters in OMNI, but his presence there made it lively for me and many others who will no longer have him to debate there or stake out a side. I didn't know he was ill and it saddens me to know his absence here was due to that. I was wondering where he had gone since I no longer encountered his posts like before. Of the things I'll most fondly remember about him, it won't be the OMNI PR stuff; it will be his discussions about his family. |

I had wondered where he was as we had some good back and forths with many eye roll but all in good fun we were all there for a common interest I'm really bummed about his passing |
Anyone know what his favorite drink was?. I may have to have one on him tonight and raise my glass in memory.
|
Never had the pleasure, but my prayers and thoughts also.
|
Very sad news.

We'll miss him. In fact, we already miss him.
|
I'll definitely miss the lively back and forth he brought to the spirited discussions in PR.
"Uncle Sam's FAVORITE Nephew" :D |
RIP, Jim. He was a veteran, patriot and a true family man, as well as a friend. I'll miss him.

There was a time that I read Omni regularly. These days I don't.
When I think of UP, I always think of the song that I hear every so often on the hard rock oldies station. While I didn't always agree with his Omni post, they were certainly entertaining. Like many posters here, you feel that you know someone, even if you've never met them. I knew of UP's issues. Also his adopted daughter.

So sorry to hear this. RIP.

I was very sorry to hear about this. I was all hyped up after Utah beat Oregon and read about UP passing on the football thread. Had no idea he was dealing with a long term illness, because he always sounded so feisty.
I have to admit that I disagreed with about 99% of his 30,000 posts, but at least he was always upfront and honest. I'll take that any day over someone who pretends to be one thing and turns out to be another. It always made me chuckle to see the @:-) at the end of so many of his posts. Anyhow. Condolences to his family and truly hope that he rests in peace. So long, Underpressure. |
:( Condolences to his family. He'll certainly be missed.

So long, UP. You were one of the good ones. You live on in your posts.
|
I never had the chance to meet him but we exchanged barbs online as adults. I respected him and would like to have had the opportunity to greet him.
He will be missed. |
thanks for posting wow, he was only 58 RIP UP |
So sorry to hear this. He was one of the great ones!!
RIP Jim:( |
Oh no....I only knew him from OMNI and I saw him to be a good and decent standup type of a man. Prayers to his loved ones....
Rest in peace, James Holmes and may light perpetual shine upon you. |
Very sorry to hear about underpressure's passing. I greatly enjoyed his contributions to FlyerTalk. He will certainly be missed.
|
So sad to hear. Sorry you lost your friend, Dov. And I'm sorry that we all lost a regular /PR poster. Solace to u/p's family and friends.
