Carolinas Que-Do!-August 17, 2013

ALL: Regrest but I had some unexpected travel pop up and will have to withdraw. Sorry for the short notice and inconvience I may have caused.
I will attempt to PM all who said they may or will participate. If anyone can step up please do so.

Hotels: Plenty of Hotels in the area of CLT airport. (SPG, HH, IHG, Marriott and LaQuinta) Pick your own so you can get stay credit where you need it most!

Any FTers up for a BBQ Do in CLT sometime Mid August? (Tentative date 17 August.)

I am in CAE, but CLT seems like a nice central location for all.

Sign up below and please give your feed back on ideas/recommendations on activities, restaurants, etc .

Hope to meet you there!

It's a possibility, especially since I may have a work reason to be in CAE. I'd probably fly into FAY or RDU, however as CHI-CLT fares are in the high $300s.

This link looks interesting as well, but it doesn't cover SC BBQ which I suspect has some subtle differences from it's NC cousin.

And here's something for 2014:

coachrowsey May 5, 2013 2:50 pm

You can put put me up as a good possible.

mhnadel May 6, 2013 8:38 am

I'm interested and I think August 17th actually works for me. I may try to talk a friend who lives near RDU into this, too.

Great!

I see this as an event that can bounce around the Carolinas to explore different styles of BBQ and topics of interest! ie. CHS and a tour of the Boeing factory?

SFOTerry May 6, 2013 12:22 pm

Can't make it. :(

We'll be in Miami with the Giants. ^

As of now I would be dinner only.

HPN-HRL May 9, 2013 11:52 am

Please add me to the "maybe" list - I haven't figured out my other August plans yet...

CMK10 May 12, 2013 5:55 pm

Put me on the Maybe list. I don't know what my work schedule will be line (especially as I start Law School that Monday) but I would like to try and make it!

ElmhurstNick May 13, 2013 9:06 pm

I won't know until 3-4 weeks in advance at the earliest, but I have it on my calendar.

violist May 14, 2013 9:15 pm

Please note me as interested.

kipper May 16, 2013 9:18 am

Mr. Kipper and I might be able to swing the trip. We'd probably drive, in part so we can swing through Lancaster's in Mooresville on the way home, and so we can smuggle some Que back across the Mason-Dixon Line. :D

MidTierStatus May 16, 2013 9:39 am

Please add me +1 as maybe

gj83 May 16, 2013 7:44 pm

I'm interested in joining, but I'm also an RD and just not a fan of BBQ.

miffSC May 16, 2013 8:19 pm

Definitely, definitely interested!

Attend anyway... I'm sure you can get chicken or salad or some such. :)

yunicorner May 17, 2013 9:22 pm

I got super excited about this Do until I saw the date. Already have something for that day (coughwhichCMK10issignedupfortoocough). Hope this is an annual event!

Yeah, I will. I just don't understand why people eat at BBQ restaurants in Charlotte when there aren't any good ones and there are plenty of actual good restaurants.

SFOTerry May 26, 2013 6:29 am

BTW - what does it take to get on the "No" list? :D

HPN-HRL May 28, 2013 9:48 am

Please move me to the "Yes" list - I bought my tickets and booked rooms. My Saturday night room is currently booked into a "suite" ($99 AAA rate) at the Four Points near Bill Spoon's, which should be sufficient for a Saturday night gathering (although if someone wants to get a nicer room somewhere else that's fine by me...)

gj83 May 28, 2013 10:07 am

@HPN - you're right by my place then. I live just about 2 more miles down Woodlawn. What kind of watering hole would you like? OMB...the oldest Charlotte brewery is down Old Pineville 2 blocks. There are microbrews down South Blvd 2 miles.

I'm good at gastro pubs and microbreweries, but I really had no clue Bill Spoon's is right there on South.

All of the above sounds good! If we can't get a tour at CLT in the 13:30-17:00 time slot, maybe we should opt for a brewery tour...

gj83 May 28, 2013 9:59 pm

A brewery tour would be quick.
From South to North we have
Four Friends down towards Carowinds
OMB south of South End
Triple C in South End
NoDa, Bird Song, and Heist are all pretty close.

Heist has the best food but the worst beer. OMB stays true to Germany with water without ice and soda served by the can.
NoDa and Birdsong just have food trucks.

Maybe instead of hijacking your time I should attempt to plan my own DO.

Regardless, I will join everyone here at the Que-do on August 17th and if anyone wants to come early or stay late I will gladly cart people around to local spots.

GrjApp May 28, 2013 10:36 pm

Well if you end up in Noda for breweries, a stop at Amelie's for dessert might be in order :)

goheelswks Jun 11, 2013 6:28 am

Would love to join were I still in CLT - good luck fighting over which Que is better and thanks for the invite!

SeoulMan Jun 23, 2013 7:17 pm

Please sign me up! (I almost missed this...Gotta get into CommunityBuzz! more often.)
And the CLT Brew-Do sounds like a great idea too.

SkyTeam777 Jun 25, 2013 6:30 am

Definitely interested!

mhnadel Jun 27, 2013 2:09 pm

I bought a plane ticket, so you can move me to the confirmed list.

Doubt you're gonna get a tour of the Boeing factory.

Condition One Jul 1, 2013 4:30 pm

Put me down as interested as well. I might be out of town for work though, but if I'm available, I'll just drive down.

ElmhurstNick Jul 18, 2013 10:58 pm

I'm afraid I have to move into the No category. :(

SeoulMan Jul 21, 2013 1:05 pm

Today's "Parade" Magazine has a cover story on BBQ. Listed as one of the best newer places is Charlotte's "Bobbee O's" (Old Statesville Road).

gj83 Jul 24, 2013 2:58 pm

I will be a YES unless crap happens.

HPN-HRL Aug 9, 2013 9:12 pm

Just bumping this...

SeoulMan Aug 10, 2013 10:40 pm

I'm a definite for dinner at Bill Spoons -- and glad to see Coachrowsey has shaken things up...I was afraid everybody had forgotten.

HPN-HRL Aug 11, 2013 11:20 am

Going through recent posts, I see at least 6 definite attendees:

coachrowsey +1
gj83
HPN-HRL
mhnadel
SeoulMan

That's enough to get this Do listed on the main Do thread - let's see if we get any last-minute additions...
