OK. Looks like holmedown won't be able to make it either, so then just us 2.

DJ Bitterbarn Jun 20, 2013 6:45 am

Okay, although instead of going to PM I'll leave it here in case more are interested.

Thoughts about CK? I'm actually up for anything so long as it's around the Rynek/Kazimierz and has decent beer. Say... meet 5-5:30ish?

DJ Bitterbarn Oct 8, 2013 9:06 am

Of course! I should be in town then, so I would be up for a meet-up. What about the other local/semi-local FTers? Any particular dates would work?

I could do Nov 27th (though it's my brother's bday so I will have to find out if he is doing anything on that Wed or waiting till Friday to celebrate.
But Sat/Sun should work for me.

thegrailer Oct 8, 2013 11:26 am

Great -- :D

Outside of touristy things the only probably planned event is the Cracovia hockey game on Nov 29. (I think, Google translate only works so well).

As an aside and not to hijack the thread: The Sheraton or the Radisson? (PMs welcome with hotel suggetions)

Cheers

both are nice hotels. the radisson is closer to the town square than the Sheraton, but its not a large difference - 5min. Whichever one that would give you the most points :)

holmedown Oct 8, 2013 1:48 pm

no flights from BRS on that day only 25 & 28 Nov (&29)

flyingfkb Oct 15, 2013 7:44 am

You guys made me think. Wanted to come to KRK again since we had the great do there. Flights look good, hotels are nice, too. Could arrive on the 29th very late and could leave on the 1st.

flyingfkb Oct 15, 2013 10:41 am

Booked my trip. Will arrive on the 29th late and leave on the 1st. I will stay at the Novotel Centrum (across the Sheraton).

Hopefully jason8612 can join us on Saturday for dinner and drinks.

jason8612 Oct 16, 2013 5:28 am

holmedown Oct 16, 2013 7:12 am

Looking good for me 28 - 1 but will have to check with work tomorrow (boss is off today)

skye1 Oct 16, 2013 9:10 am

Not sure where. Depending on people and free time, we could do a all day DO or even a 2 day DO (maybe even head outside of Krakow and hit the slopes weather permitting)
I'm up for any suggestions/things that one wants to see.

Pimento is still there as of this morning :)

We've also got a pretty decent burger truck on that street now (e.g. tied with Moaburger for best in the city IMO) and after years I finally made it to Omerta (pub) and then immediately kicked myself for not doing it sooner. Surprisingly good selection of non-Polish beers to go with their huge selection of Polish beer (quite enjoyed Koniec Świata last time, reminded me of the other end of the world beer)So lots of options, really.

Not sure if December will be early enough for the Christmas markets on the Rynek, but I would take that risk for grilled Oszczypek ;)

thegrailer Oct 17, 2013 1:41 am

Anyone besides me interested in hockey on Friday night?

Our first trip to KRK so the Wawel Royal Castle is a must. We would like to see the Wieliczka salt mine too. I have 4 days on the ground and can be flexible if folks want to hang :D

Slopes? Skiing in the area?

(I think it would be better seeing some of the the more solemn historical sites in the area alone - thoughts?)

Cheers

edit: My 900th post ^

Pretty sure I can't make it for hockey, but it sounds like it could be interesting.

I'd put Wieliczka above Wawel, but I'm a nerd who's seen Wieliczka three times but inside Wawel only once ;) I'm also not sure if the art gallery is finally open (I think it is?) and Schindler's Factory. Also don't miss the underground museum in the Rynek.

I'm not sure how the skiing is nearby, we always go to Zakopane or Białka Tatrzańska, but there's places within 45 minutes that fullfil the basic requirements for skiing - lift, slope, place at the bottom to get stuff to perform said action. In terms of quality, though, I would say Białka is the best - most runs, most lifts, decent condition, no real vertical though.

And congrats on the post count!

Depending on your personal preference a tour to see the Concentration Camp Auschwitz-Birkenau might be worth. We did it during the Krakow Do and it is definitely something to visit even if it can be depressing.

I want to try to visit the Schindler Factory on Saturday. i just saw it from the outside but some other Flyertalkers went there and spoke very highly about it.

And we are lucky. The Christmas market opens on the 29th!! Christmas Market Krakow

YES!!! ...and that has significantly fueled my quest to figure out how to get there for this. Can't really leave work early on Friday, so sorting out flights.

That would be my vote as well for Saturday.

holmedown Oct 17, 2013 8:46 am

I didnt do the Schindler Factory either last time - just saw the outside so would vote for that too.
Great the Christmas Market starts - put me down as a definite.
I will probably stay at the Hilton Garden again.

I can't say for sure if the Christmas Markets will be happening (I guess I could look, though) but they might be?

How about the Xmas market and the factory (Płaszów camp and the quarry too? Both seem to be near the factory) - with some pierogis mixed in somewhere - on Sat? (Can I assume that pierogis will be widely available in the market?)

I don't want to go OT too much but is there a place to get good deals on Boleslawiec Pottery in KRK?

jason8612 Oct 17, 2013 11:36 am

yeah, the markets should be open sat and sun.

holmedown Oct 21, 2013 9:44 am

Well I am now all booked - Nov 28 - Dec 1 staying at Hilton Garden Inn

Cool!
would people be up for a mini DO (something more than just dinner)?
We could plan something for Fri and Sat.

flyingfkb Oct 23, 2013 7:40 am

I'm up for ideas on saturday still I would try to do the Schindler factory.

Happy to join you there on the Saturday as I didn't go last time - just looked from the outside.

thegrailer Oct 23, 2013 7:12 pm

I'd like to see that too. Reading about the area, there seems to be a few other related sights near the factory. Casp (it will be great to see you again ^) and others - interested in a walk through the area as well as a visit to the factory?

bwiadca Nov 1, 2013 7:18 am

I'm working on my tickets to Poland right now. I'll be going on the 23rd to Dec. 3-4th. Definitely will go to KRK.
My plan is to do some plane spotting at Balice from early AM until 2-3pm then go to downtown and check in at the hotel (which one? I don't know yet, I'd like to stay in one where other FT people are staying).
If the weather will be bad (read rain) I'll be available for fun from early AM :)

bwiadca Nov 1, 2013 7:54 pm

I've booked my flights, now I'm looking for hotels :)
I'll be there Friday/Saturday Nov 29/30.
Which hotels are you guys staying at?

jason8612 Nov 2, 2013 8:25 am

I'm flying back from the USA web Nov 27, so I will be there that weekend for sure (and free)

Hotels you can check some corp rates at the chains (SPG, Radisson, Hilton, Park Inn)

bwiadca Nov 2, 2013 11:08 am

Looks like the best option is Hilton for $40 + 8K points.
Haven't decided yet, but I'll be in KRK 100% Friday evening.

flyingfkb Nov 4, 2013 2:42 am

I will stay at the Novotel City Center (funny how some hotel chains define city center) across the Sheraton. Had Accor-Points that I needed to use.

thegrailer Nov 18, 2013 9:07 am

The 2 for 1 rate at Park Inn is running <€40/night. I believe Gold status is required but Club Carlson does status match.

Raf - not good for you on a one night stay. Casp - it might work for you on the Fri-Sun if you can use the Accor points elsewhere.

I have CC gold status so if anyone needs me to book a room let me know.

What time is everyone arriving and dates again?
